Chapter 413: Elements
"!!!" Nathan widened his eyes. "What did you say? My master?"
"Yes. It seems she hasn't told you about it. Her lifebound familiar died in battle in that bloody banquet.
"Her condition was severe. I heard people who lost their lifebound familiars this way would experience a near-death experience due to the drawback of this concept.
"And she probably got her second lifebound familiar, but it still counted as one lifebound familiar due to the previous familiar's condition.
"However, this is all I can tell you. If you want to know the rest, you should ask your teacher about it.
"Anyway, there are also cases where people have three familiars. I think there is one with four familiar recorded in history, so you don't have to worry. It's serious, but it's not super rare."
"I see…" Nathan pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You shouldn't worry too much about the lifebound familiars for the time being. Instead, you should focus on building up your foundation. The better your fundamentals are, the higher the chance that you're able to get a lifebound familiar."
"Is there a chance for it to fail?"
"Of course. This is probably the biggest reason there is a big gap between people who have a lifebound familiar and those who don't. If you fail, in the worst-case scenario, you will die. Most of the time, you will suffer a major drawback like a severely weakened link, which decreases your summoning range to a tenth of its original. Or there is a record about a person losing their limbs due to him being burned by his own familiar's power.
"Hence, most people are scared to have a lifebound familiar, so you should keep this in mind."
"I understand." Nathan nodded furiously.
"Now that I think about it, are you planning to have a lifebound familiar soon? Is that why you asked me to teach you about my abilities and elements?"
Nathan smiled wryly, letting her misunderstand it.
"You have to be careful. Then again, I've heard how strong your familiars are, so I don't need to worry about you. Do you have an element in mind? Something you would like to possess?"
Nathan shook his head, but he was actually screaming inwardly, 'Of course. There are a lot of cool powers like Space and Time, Life and Death, Gravity, Vector, Absolute Elements, or even Emotions.
'However, things like Gravity or Vector don't sound possible, or no divine beasts possess that power… at least to my shallow knowledge. There is Life and Death, like Anubis' power, or even the Space Element. There is Time like Cronos.
'But if I get the power of time, how much ena do I need to make a contract with time? In the end, I have to make a contract for this world's time, no? I don't know this. Therefore, I need to know more about her elements.
'Or maybe I should have Absolute Elements? They're basically the ruler of that particular element. As for Emotions… it's too overpowered. It's not just divine beasts… There are simply no gods or goddesses who possess the power to control all emotions, or they will just become the strongest being.
'They will be able to make them sad enough to kill themselves or whatever. So, I should approach this in a more reasonable way.'
Nathan sighed. "I personally don't know what kind of element I'm planning to get, but I will be getting an element soon. That's why I want to know more about this topic from you."
Evelyn finally understood the reason behind his request.
"Alright. Let's go with my original ability first." Evelyn raised a finger. "To put it simply, gravity is a force that will continue to go down perpendicular to the ground with the base ground being a flat ground with zero angle.
"Whether you are on a slope or other places, this rule will be applied. At first, my ability allows me to actually increase or decrease the force of gravity. Once there's no gravity, our body ends up floating.
"Then, I gain an ability to control the gravity of one's object, including myself. There is also an ability to induce gravity.
"After that…" Evelyn thought for a moment. "It's an ability to ignore gravity, which is basically allowing me to move unhindered. My strongest ability is shifting the direction of gravity.
"Those are my abilities, from the weakest to the strongest. The energy consumption is parallel to the power contained within the abilities."
Nathan fell into deep thought. 'Doesn't that mean the elemental ability is restricted to nature laws? I mean, gravity itself follows the physics law. I don't really go to a higher education, due to my family's circumstances, but I know this kind of basic knowledge.
'After listening to her, I feel like having an element in one's body is just a way to control nature. How about other elements like fire? Oxygen whatsoever? I'm not sure. Maybe I should have gone to a higher education. I might be able to create a nuclear bomb or something with my Soul Contract.
'Either way, this information allows me to see a few possible methods to actually make a contract with stronger elements.
'First of all, it looks like they depend on three things: the change in natural law, the target, and the impact. The bigger each condition is, the more ena is required. In other words, if I set the contract in a specific way, such as allowing me to increase gravity in a certain spot, I might not need a ridiculous amount of ena.
'This is what I've been doing until now, but thanks to her, I am able to confirm my theory. I'll ask her another question to confirm this last thing.' Nathan crossed his arms.
After some thought, he couldn't help but ask, "If you get a lifebound familiar, you get their element. So, when you use that element, how do you exactly feel?
"Do you feel like you are in control of that element? Do you feel like you're controlling nature? Or maybe you have another feeling that I haven't described."
