Chapter 710 - 704: Simultaneous Release
Chapter 710: Chapter 704: Simultaneous Release
Besides these, a month ago, Virtual World Corporation had already agreed to a partnership deal with the largest courier companies in every country. For those who order the Eve Morrison’s smartphone on the official website, these courier companies would promptly dispatch the product. According to the Virtual World Corporation, there would be no stock issues with Eve Morrison’s smartphone.
Simultaneously, the smartphone would be launched worldwide, meaning everyone would have an opportunity to get the phone they love. The first batch from Virtual World was marked at thirty million units available globally. This number, although distributed globally, might seem insufficient for individual countries, especially populous ones like the Flame Nation.
However, this number is already quite alarming. For example, Company A’s smartphone generally sells around sixty-five million units in a quarter – that’s for their latest model. This figure is the quarterly, or three-month, total. But Virtual World has already prepared thirty million units right at the start of the sale. Are they trying to outsell their competitor’s quarterly total in just a week?
For major media outlets, especially those foreign ones, almost 80% of them were bearish on the Virtual World Corporation. They acknowledged that the smartphone produced by Virtual World Corporation had its merits. However, they thought that because the company chose the first day of the New Year to launch a new product…
Most people who had just replaced their phones with Company A’s new smartphone – which was launched three months ago, were unlikely to switch again. This means the sales of Virtual World Corporation certainly would not be shocking. Three days before the official sale started, Virtual World started accepting pre-orders for the Eve Morrison smartphone.
Unexpectedly, only 6 million units were pre-ordered worldwide over three days! This number was far short of the figure for Company A’s new smartphone in its first week. Their pre-orders were generally close to between 17 and 20 million.
Since newly launched smartphones usually sell the most, it was surprising that the Eve Morrison smartphone only had six million units reserved, which was roughly about a third of its competitor’s sales. Was the company really preparing 30 million units, and if the pre-orders are such, does it still hope to surpass its competition?
“Umm, did we not promote it well enough? How can the numbers be so low?” As soon as the results were out, Kay Lee called Finn Lewis.
“It’s not about the lack of promotion. Don’t worry,” Finn Lewis said with a smile.
“How can I not worry? Look at those news outlets. They have started to predict our downfall, saying that we have been too arrogant in the past, announcing the launch of our smartphone without proper market research. It’s so abnormal, these numbers are far too low,” Kay Lee said somewhat anxiously.
“No need to worry too much. Trust me, it’ll be fine,” Finn Lewis responded reassuringly.
“If these are the actual sales, we are going to run at a loss,” Kay Lee expressed her concerns.
“Don’t worry, the sale of our phones will pick up,” Luna Starfield voiced assuringly.
“How can I not worry? Where did you get your data from, Luna?” Kay Lee asked, sounding a little helpless.
“Actually, it’s simple. Many people are just waiting for our phones to come out so they can get a real feel of them. If the system is as good as they think, they will continue to buy our new phones,” Luna Starfield said with a laugh.
“Fine, I’ll put my trust in you guys,” Kay Lee static, feeling somewhat helpless. More publicity wouldn’t help because even though Virtual World Corporation had never done any dedicated reports, its exposure was already very high. It was a global spotlight, with constant attention from the media, so there was no need for any particular advertising, as it would naturally attract more attention.
Any news conference would immediately garner widespread attention, rendering additional promotion unnecessary. The three days passed quickly, there were lines of people extending to up to hundred metres in length outside each direct-sale store, perplexing the media even more.
In theory, given such a hot sale, the number of pre-orders couldn’t possibly be just six million. At the very least, it should be over ten million, so why was the actual number so low? Although the media didn’t understand, they had no way of finding out. They couldn’t possibly go and ask everybody worldwide why, despite the apparent popularity, they weren’t buying.
In fact, the actual number wasn’t as low as six million – this was just the pre-ordered number. Most of those who were lined up outside the direct-sale stores were not just those who had made reservations, but also those who were picking up their pre-ordered phones.
You either had to wait at home for the courier company to deliver, or queue up to pick up your order from the direct-sale store. Because of the efficiency of courier services and the fact that Virtual World Corporation had already delivered the products to various cities beforehand, all six million phones were delivered to their respective owners on the first day of the sale.
Plenty of journalists, media outlets, and news platforms also received the new phones from Virtual World Corporation. A North Federation show called “Challenge Your Perception”, immediately began broadcasting. What did the show do? The show presented ideas and actions that common people would never think of, for example, they bought ten Eve Morrison smartphones during its first launch.
What were they doing? They weren’t testing the system, smooth running, performance, software, etc. They were conducting tests that were absolutely non-human. For instance, they used an induction cooker with a stainless-steel pot on it filled with boiling water, then threw the latest phone from Company A, Planet X, and the Eve Morrison smartphone into it while the screens were on and operating a gaming app.
As the boiling water started to cook the phones, this was their way of testing – you wouldn’t believe it, but people watched it. Not just people abroad, but many locals also loved to watch such shows.
Starting with boiling the phones in water, three phones were thrown directly into the bubbling, boiling water. Within the first 28 seconds, Company A’s newest phone screen displayed a couple of fine glowing dots, which then turned into a snowy screen, and finally, it went black.
The Planet X phone screen started to display several system error codes in League letters at around 47 seconds, and then eventually, it too went black.
