Chapter 9: Hidden Feelings
Kara's POV
Damian and Zara are becoming closer by the day, and it's becoming glaringly obvious that Damian might have feelings for Zara. Honestly, I'm not even sure if she feels the same way about him. She clearly enjoys his company and values their friendship, but is that all it is? Or could it be something more? Ugh, this is so confusing! I want them to end up together so badly… but what if Zara doesn't like him that way?
Damian's POV
"Why can't I stop thinking about her? Could that be one of her powers?" I wonder as I lean back, enjoying the cool breeze outside. Suddenly, a familiar voice startles me.
"Boo," Zara says, appearing at my side. Her blue eyes shine with mischief as she watches me expectantly.
Feigning surprise, I respond flatly, "Oh wow, I didn't see you there."
She laughs, clearly satisfied, and settles beside me. "Why are you out here all alone?"
I glance at her, hesitating before replying, "It helps me relax."
Without warning, she leans forward, grabbing my face between her hands. "I'll stay with you then," she declares softly, her hands lingering for just a moment before she lets go.
We sit in companionable silence after that, the air calm between us.
Zara's POV
Sitting next to Damian, I close my eyes, letting the peaceful quiet wrap around us. That is until someone else decides to join in.
"Hi, guys!" Kara chirps as she appears.
"Hi, Kara," I say, catching the slight annoyance flicker across Damian's face. Turning to her, I ask, "What are you doing here?"
She smiles innocently and plops down beside me. "Just trying to spend some time with my favorite sister."
"Only sister," I correct her with a sigh.
Before I can say anything more, Damian stands abruptly. "I'll leave you two to it," he says, his voice neutral as he walks away.
"Kara, look what you did," I mutter, unable to keep the disappointment from my tone.
Kara looks genuinely confused. "What? You wanted him to stay?"
"Of course I did! You didn't do that on purpose, right?" I narrow my eyes at her.
"Of course not! Why would I?" she says with an exaggerated smile, clearly trying to lighten the mood. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, she asks, "Hey, Zara, do Kryptonians have powers that Clark and I don't know about?"
I shrug. "Not powers, exactly. More like… advantages. For example, Earth's gravity is extremely weak compared to Krypton's."
"Okay, but are there other things we can do? Special things?" she presses.
I nod. "Plenty, actually."
Her skepticism is obvious, so I grin and decide to show her. Focusing, I activate one of my favorite abilities: metamorphosis. Kara gasps as my appearance shifts, my features mimicking hers.
"Why on Earth do you look so much like me?!" she exclaims.
"Do you believe me now?" I ask, still grinning.
"Yeah, I guess," she admits hesitantly. "But do you have any other abilities?"
"Of course," I say, my tone nonchalant. "Telekinesis, electrokinesis, resistance to kryptonite…"
Her jaw drops. "No way. Really?"
"Yep," I reply, my grin faltering slightly. "But those are thanks to my defect. It's also why I can't fly."
I shift back to my original appearance, sadness creeping into my voice. Kara, however, doesn't seem bothered by my revelation. Instead, she perks up.
"Can you read my mind?" she asks excitedly.
"You're wondering if I can really read your mind," I reply without missing a beat.
Her eyes widen in amazement. "We have to try this on Bruce!"
"You're on your own with that," I say, standing up to stretch.
"Come on, it'll be fun!" she pleads, grabbing my arm.
"Fun for you, maybe," I retort, shaking her off.
Kara doesn't let up, and I have to suppress a laugh as she continues trying to convince me.
