Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Lin Feng Was Stunned, Even Superman Needs to Date
The next day, sunlight streamed through the window, casting a warm glow on Susan's desk. As usual, she arrived early at the TV station, ready to begin a new day's work.
On the 31st floor of the TV station, Susan's desk was directly opposite a massive floor-to-ceiling window. All she had to do was glance up, and the breathtaking view of nearly half of New York City was right before her eyes. Colleagues passed by her desk, and each time, they couldn't help but shoot her envious looks. Susan had become one of the station's pillars, and everyone who saw her would approach her with a friendly greeting. After all, she was on familiar terms with New York's superhero—Superman.
Despite all the attention, Susan remained level-headed, not letting the special treatment get to her head. She always smiled at everyone, and whenever someone needed help, she never hesitated to lend a hand. In fact, she often shared funny stories about Superman, which only strengthened her position among her colleagues. Her desk was overflowing with all kinds of little gifts—tokens of appreciation from those she had helped.
Susan opened her laptop and started her work. The station also ran a newspaper, and at that moment, she was writing an article for the front page. She pulled up some photos from yesterday's shoot, and in one of them, Lin Feng's bright, sunny smile was incredibly infectious. "He looks so handsome! How does he have such a charming smile?" Susan couldn't help but reach out and lightly touch the screen, a dreamy smile spreading across her face. As they say in the East, this was probably "beauty through the eyes of the lover."
Meanwhile, across the city, Lin Feng sat leisurely on the couch, a book in his hands. His eyes sparkled with excitement as he read, occasionally making impressed sounds, as if he had just unlocked the door to a whole new world. "I didn't know you could do this!" "Wow…" "This is eye-opening!" he murmured to himself, flipping through the pages while eagerly anticipating his date with Susan tonight.
"How's it going? Is it worth spending 100 reputation points on this book?" The system's lazy voice echoed in Lin Feng's mind.
"Eh, it's alright…" Lin Feng immediately dropped his smile and replied with a hint of reluctance, "But it's just okay, 10 reputation points would've been fine."
"Hmph, cheapskate, always criticizing me." The system seemed to scoff, and then fell silent.
"Pfft, I'm not wrong," Lin Feng muttered with a smirk, diving back into his book. In his mind, he was already rehearsing every detail of his upcoming date. The more he thought about it, the more confident he felt about the evening.
First, he needed to "book a restaurant"! It had to be somewhere upscale, with a comfortable ambiance, perfect for a romantic dinner. But then, a problem arose—what kind of food did Susan like?
Lin Feng froze for a moment, trying hard to remember every little detail about Susan. The memories flashed in his mind like slides on a projector. Suddenly, he recalled something: Susan's keychain had a row of small fish charms, at least three or four strung together. He remembered seeing the same charm at a seafood restaurant he frequented, and that same symbol had also appeared on a fishing boat he saved last month. Susan must have visited that restaurant several times, which meant she liked seafood! At that moment, Lin Feng felt like a detective solving a case, completely satisfied with his deduction.
He quickly grabbed his phone and began searching for well-known seafood restaurants in New York. He planned to take Susan to one where she could try the unique seafood cooking styles of Eastern chefs. In his memory, Eastern cuisine had countless ways to prepare seafood, each dish with its own unforgettable flavor. He was sure Susan would love it.
"Hello? I'd like to book a table for two," Lin Feng called a restaurant.
On the other end, a warm voice greeted him in Chinese, though it carried a hint of apology. "Sorry, sir, we're fully booked for tonight. Would you like to book for tomorrow...?"
"Oh, no problem, I'll pass for now." Lin Feng hung up, astounded. "Wow, no wonder it's a restaurant run by fellow countrymen—business is booming! It's not even lunchtime, and dinner slots are already taken?"
But Lin Feng didn't give up. He continued calling other seafood restaurants, only to find that every restaurant he liked was completely booked! No matter how much he pleaded, or even offered to pay extra, there were no tables available.
Lin Feng was stunned. "What's going on? Are all these restaurants this popular? Is dating in the Marvel universe this hard? My first date, and things are already going south? Guess love isn't as easy as it seems…" He held his phone, deep in thought.
What should he do? Should he turn into Superman and fly to the restaurant, demanding a table? But if he did that, he and Susan's lives would likely never be peaceful again.
"Wait… how could I forget him?" After a long pause, Lin Feng suddenly slapped his thigh as if struck by a brilliant idea. He quickly dialed a new number.
"Sir, Mr. Lin Feng is calling."
In his workshop, Tony Stark was focused on repairing his armor helmet when Jarvis's voice interrupted.
"Huh? Put him through," Tony said, pausing his work.
"Hey, Tony!" Lin Feng's face appeared on the screen.
"Well, well, if it isn't our big superhero," Tony teased. "What's up? Didn't go save the world today?"
"Ugh…" Lin Feng rolled his eyes. It had been a while since they last met, and Tony's sharp tongue was just as sharp as ever. "Even Superman needs a break. What about you? Haven't been out fighting crime lately?"
Tony didn't seem to care. He waved the helmet in his hand and replied, "My armor's getting an upgrade, so I've let those guys live a little longer. But don't worry, this upgrade will make it faster, stronger, and easier to wear!"
"Upgrade all you want, it still can't take one of my punches," Lin Feng shot back, finally landing a point.
"Alright, alright. What's up, buddy? If it's not urgent, I'm a bit busy here." Tony feigned impatience.
"Actually, it's a big deal!"
Lin Feng quickly explained the situation about his date with Susan that night. Initially uninterested, Tony's face lit up with a sly grin when he realized it was Lin Feng's first date.
"That's it? You've come to the right guy!" Tony leaned back confidently. "This is my area of expertise. Leave it to me to set it all up! I'll make sure it's perfect for you." With a snap of his fingers, Tony exuded an air of success.
"Tony, this is my first date ever, so I'm counting on you!" Lin Feng emphasized again, worried that Tony might let him down.
"Don't worry, I'll arrange something special for you guys tonight. I guarantee you'll be satisfied!" Tony said, not waiting for Lin Feng's response before hanging up.
"Hey, Pepper! Where are you?" Tony clapped his hands after hanging up, calling upstairs. "Our little superhero's got a date! Come help out!"
