Chapter 380: Chapter 380: Clark's Kill Steal
"The temperature seems to be recovering? Jarvis, has the battle between the Saiyans been decided?" Tony Stark, his fatigue momentarily pierced by a spark of curiosity, asked Jarvis upon noticing the returning warmth.
Tony Stark had been swamped with work these days, not battling but feeling even more exhausted because of all the issues that needed handling. He had left the monitoring of Robert's fireball to Jarvis, waiting for the battle's outcome.
By now, Tony was aware of Robert's identity—after meeting Peter Parker and the others, uncovering Robert's identity was straightforward. Especially since Peter and his young friends hadn't even started college, their social circle was limited. A little investigation made things quite clear.
However, even so, Tony had no intention of revealing Robert's identity. Especially after these supernatural incidents, he believed that extraordinary beings like Robert were indispensable. And frankly, Robert posed less of a threat than even Nick Fury and his ilk.
It was notable that during this massive event, which threatened the entire Earth, neither SHIELD nor the other supernatural organizations stepped up to resolve or even address the catastrophe. As the Pentagon folks said, these organizations were first in line when it came to funding but disappeared when it was time to solve real problems.
"The battle on the Saiyan side isn't over; he's still inside that fireball. And while the fireball has indeed warmed the surrounding area, it hasn't affected the entire planet. The environment seems to be recovering due to some other force, which I am unable to analyze," Jarvis responded promptly, showing the unchanged fireball on screen.
Peter Parker and the others had long left the area, except for Sue Storm who stayed to look after Pietro and Lorna, while everyone else went to help elsewhere.
Tony had a point when he left; even if they couldn't stand out as openly as he could, they had abilities that needed to be used, especially since disasters often accompany human miseries, and in such weather, it wouldn't be surprising if some tried to exploit the situation.
"It's ending…" Meanwhile, inside the fireball, Robert faced a heavily cracked ice block. Inside the core was a massive Frost Giant, albeit in bad shape, practically teetering.
Just as Robert had said, the battle was nearing its end.
But Robert remained vigilant, aware that the Ice Box and the Frost Giant had one last card to play, and the moment the ice shattered would be their final, do-or-die battle.
"Hmm?" Just as Robert was ready to face the final showdown, he sensed a familiar energy approaching.
It was none other than Clark, who had transformed into a miniature sun to raise the Earth's temperature and had noticed that Robert's battle was still ongoing.
From observing the Ice Box and the Frost Giant, Clark knew that Robert was depleting their energy to prevent it from leaking and affecting the Earth's climate.
But Clark felt such caution was unnecessary since he had a way to deal with the threat directly and assumed that Robert, tired from the lengthy battle, wouldn't mind wrapping things up sooner.
Thus, as Robert sensed Clark approaching, Clark swiftly penetrated the fireball at such speed that not even the mechas watching from a distance managed to capture his arrival, leaving the fireball itself untouched.
The next moment, Clark appeared in front of the ice block. As Robert was about to speak, Clark threw a punch, causing the Frost Giant inside to suddenly look terrified as the Ice Box released its last burst of energy. The box was no longer in its original form but had become a block of pure ice.
When this block appeared, the cracks in the outer ice healed instantly, and a terrifying burst of cold air erupted, freezing the surrounding flames instantly. Only the fierce flames erupting from Robert managed to ward off the frost attack...
But Clark, unaffected, punched the ice, shattering it instantly into powder, along with the Ice Box and the Frost Giant, leaving no chance for retaliation.
By the time Robert had neutralized the freezing force on his body, he saw that Clark had already killed the enemy, leaving nothing behind.
"No..." Robert was momentarily speechless; how had Clark learned to steal kills? Although Clark had done so before, that was only because Robert was busy with other matters, so Clark just took out the Hell Demon then.
This time, however, Clark came specifically because of the Ice Box, even seeming to have a vendetta against it, ending it without a word, somewhat mirroring Robert's own style.
"Your energy? Why does it feel somewhat unstable?" But at that moment, Robert began to speak, furrowing his brow as he noticed something off about Clark. His energy was powerful but highly unstable, like dynamite about to explode.
This concerned Robert because if someone as powerful as Clark had an issue, especially one involving loss of control over his own powers, it would be hard to assist him.
"It's nothing, just that I was too close to the sun earlier and absorbed too much energy.
After coming back and trying to restore the Earth, I released a lot of that energy, causing some imbalance in my body..." Clark explained with a sigh.
"I thought my power would rise limitlessly, but now it seems that isn't the case. After absorbing a certain amount of solar energy, my cells start to ache..."
"Although I'm stronger than before, I seem to have hit a barrier. But it was this ache that woke me up, otherwise, I wouldn't know how long I'd sleep, especially with such a big event happening on Earth..."
"This incident was unexpected, or perhaps, a continuation of Asgardian matters," Robert mused, his eyes gleaming slightly. "These beings, called Frost Giants, are from the Norse pantheon and were the original owners of the Ice Box..."
"You mean to say, this matter is related to Asgard?" Clark frowned, thinking back to the devastation on Earth, his eyes sparkling with intensity.
"I don't know, but at least, the appearance of the Frost Giants on Earth is due to the Ice Box, and the Ice Box is here because of Loki..." Robert shrugged, not entirely clear on the connections between Loki, the Frost Giants, and Asgard, but knowing there was definitely a relationship, especially since Loki resembled the Frost Giants.
"Let me recover first. My powers are a bit troublesome now. If it was just cell pain, recovery wouldn't be much, but I've released too much energy since coming back, making my powers unbalanced..." Clark sighed, his expression tinged with helplessness.
That was why Clark had paused when he returned and saw the state of Earth; his condition wasn't great, but faced with such a crisis, he couldn't just do nothing, especially since the temperature effects could be long-lasting and not merely a "brief little Ice Age" as some experts later claimed.
"So you hurried to deal with the Ice Box?" Robert nodded in understanding, setting aside any complaints about kill-stealing as he seriously addressed Clark.
"However, this loss of control might not be a bad thing for you; at least it could help you achieve a new level of power control..."
"Especially now that you know there are limits to your body, or rather, bottlenecks. I was thinking of having Kara sunbathe more, but it seems that after reaching a certain level, your cells might just saturate..."
"That makes sense, if every individual of a species could enhance themselves without limits, your race would have conquered the universe long ago!"
In the world of Dragon Ball, there are no shortage of BUG-level species, but while they aren't numerous, the original population of Kryptonians, at least before Krypton's destruction, wasn't small.
If the Kryptonians really had no limits to their enhancement, Krypton wouldn't have ended up like it did...
"I understand, this trip to the sun was to further explore my abilities, but I realized something: if I really lost the sun, my power increase is nearly zero, even affecting my recovery speed..." Clark said, furrowing his brow at Robert.
"So, these powers still aren't completely yours..." Robert also frowned, not asking why Clark suddenly decided to visit the sun because he knew Clark must have felt pressured after the battle with Asgard, so he began to analyze for Clark.
"The sun can stimulate your cells, but what you really need to strengthen is your own body and cells, not just rely on the sun. You need to find a way to keep a sun within you, or somehow make this power permanent in your body, unaffected by external factors..."
With a hum, as Robert's words ended, Clark's hand opened, and a red glow gathered in his palm, Robert clearly feeling it was energy similar to heat vision. Clark finally had a power akin to an energy wave, no longer needing to just stare at opponents in battle.
"This is also one of the few gains I've made; I can finally play around with energy attacks, just like you..." Clark's lips curled up slightly, his energy unstable but not so weak he couldn't demonstrate his new skill to Robert.
"That might be a bit difficult..." Robert chuckled, shaking his head softly. "You should first think about how to properly control your body and power. As for getting fancy, your energy overall is still one type, not so complex and varied. Like Peter Parker right now, it'd be hard for him to release as many different energy wave techniques as I do..."
"Alright, I'll look into that later. I'm going to spend some time on the Savage Islands, tell Martha and the others..." Clark didn't argue with Robert because his energy release was indeed simplistic, and now wasn't the time for research. He needed to recover his strength first.
With the Frost Giants' arrival on Earth, who knows if another villain might cause such a massive impact next time?
Therefore, Clark didn't even stop by home but headed directly to the Savage Islands, mainly because his power was somewhat out of control. If he went
home now, he feared he might inadvertently frighten Martha and the others...
As Earth's temperature gradually returned to normal, in a certain part of the world, several individuals dressed like medieval warriors felt the changing environment, confusion flashing in their eyes...
