Chapter 71: Reaction to the tour
Rebecca burst into Jessica's office, the door slamming against the wall. Her usually composed demeanor was replaced by wide eyes and a frantic energy. Clutching her tablet, she strode across the room, practically shoving it into Jessica's hands.
"We have a problem. A big problem," Rebecca announced, her voice tight with urgency.
Jessica, who had been typing an email, froze mid-sentence. She pushed her laptop aside and grabbed the tablet. "What happened?"
Rebecca pointed to the screen. "Ethan's tour ticket prices were leaked. And now… the internet is eating him alive. Every major entertainment outlet is talking about it."
Jessica's lips thinned as she scrolled through the headlines on the screen. The first was from TMZ: "$200 for a Ticket? Newbie Ethan Jones Thinks He's Taylor Swift."
Next was E! News: "Ethan Jones' Ticket Prices Cause Outrage. Fans Say, 'Who Does He Think He Is?'"
Then came Entertainment Tonight: "Rising Star or Rising Ego? Ethan Jones Sets Ticket Prices on Par with Music Legends."
Jessica's eyes darkened as she scrolled further. Each headline seemed worse than the last.
Rebecca continued, "It's not just the headlines. The talk shows are jumping on it, too. Look at this."
She swiped to a clip from The View. Whoopi Goldberg's voice filled the room.
"Two hundred dollars for a concert ticket? For Ethan Jones? Honey, I love his music, but that's Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber territory. He's got talent, but let's not get ahead of ourselves."
Joy Behar chimed in. "Who even is this kid? One album, and he thinks he's worth that much?"
The scene cut to Good Morning America, where Michael Strahan had a more measured take. "I get the frustration, but let's not forget, the industry sets these prices. Ethan might not even have control over it."
Meanwhile, on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne tha God didn't hold back.
"Ethan's dope, no doubt. But two hundred bucks? Nah, son. That's wild. He's good, but he ain't earned that level yet."
Angela Yee offered a counterpoint. "I think he's on his way, though. Those numbers don't lie. He's breaking records."
Social Media Erupts
Jessica exhaled sharply and set the tablet down. "Okay, the media's going crazy. What about the fans?"
Rebecca pulled out her phone. "Mixed reactions. Here, look at this."
She opened Twitter and scrolled to some of the trending threads.
@PopMusicUpdates: BREAKING: Ethan Jones' ticket prices revealed—$150–$200 per show. Fair or outrageous?———
@FanOfMusic: "Fair. He's earned it. His album is fire."
@ConcertCashGrab: "Outrageous. He's not Taylor or Bieber. Sit down."
@BellaT: "Ethan is totally on their level. He's even better."
@MusicSkeptic: "Better?? Bella, please calm down. We can't face the Swifties or Beliebers yet."
More replies flooded in:
@EthanFan_23: "If you can't afford it, just say so. Stop blaming Ethan for knowing his worth."
@BrookeWrites: "I'll save up. He's worth every penny. Can't wait to see him live!"
@AngryInLA: "Ethan, I love you, but $200? Really? I have rent to pay."
On Instagram, the debate was equally heated:
@ConcertCrazy: "Ethan's music got me through some tough times. I'm paying whatever it costs."
@BudgetFan: "$200 for a ticket? Guess I'll watch on YouTube."
Jessica tossed the tablet onto her desk and stood, pacing. "How did this even get out? We haven't planned on releasing the pricing yet. This was supposed to be under wraps."
Rebecca crossed her arms. "No idea. The leak must've come from someone close to the team."
Jessica grabbed her phone, her fingers hovering over the screen as she prepared to dial. Before she could, Rebecca stopped her.
"Wait. While the media's saying one thing, the fans… they're not all against him. In fact, most of them are defending him."
Jessica paused, narrowing her eyes. "Go on."
Rebecca scrolled through more comments. "Look at this one."
@EthanRocks: "He's setting his own path. Haters will hate, but real fans will show up no matter the cost."
@TaylorFan22: "If Ethan Jones thinks he's worth it, then maybe he is. Stop tearing him down before he even starts his tour."
Jessica's jaw tightened, but she nodded. "Okay. Let's keep monitoring this. And find out who leaked it. I want answers by the end of the day."
Rebecca nodded. "On it."
Jessica returned to her desk, her fingers tapping rhythmically against the wood. The backlash was fierce, but so was Ethan's support. This wasn't just damage control—it was an opportunity to show the world what Ethan was truly made of.
