Chapter 88: Suprise visit/celebrity guest
Zendaya was thriving. She entered 2022 on a high after starring in two of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters the year before: as MJ in Spider-Man: No Way Home and Chani in Dune. While her screen time in Dune was brief, it had been impactful. Now, she had just wrapped up the final scene of Euphoria season two. The director, Sam Levinson, started clapping.
"Cut, cut! That was beautiful, Zendaya! Honey, that was spectacular! Round of applause, everyone! Thank you all for a brilliant second season. This is for the whole cast, love you all!" Sam exclaimed.
Zendaya just laughed, exhausted. The year had barely started, and she was already swamped. Shooting a show, then two days later, a fashion shoot campaign with Anne Hathaway. She just wanted to get to her trailer and sleep. As she walked, she greeted the crew members who were cheering her on. Her agent, Sam Greene, a 28-year-old woman who was exclusively working with Zendaya, caught up to her.
"Z, honey, that was beautiful. If the season is as successful as the first one, we're looking at another Emmy nomination, maybe even a win again," Sam said, clearly thinking about the possibility of adding another Emmy to Zendaya's growing collection.
Zendaya responded with a tired smile. "Sam, I'm just so tired right now. I've been working all night to meet the deadline. Thanks to some...circumstances, they had to move the shooting of the finale a little, but the release date was already set. So, I had to work double time."
When she finally entered her trailer, she didn't waste a second. She went straight to the couch area and flopped down onto the bed, closing her eyes. She was too exhausted to notice the silhouette standing by the side. Then she felt a hand gently rub her hair and heard a familiar British accent.
"Oh, baby, are you tired?" The voice was unmistakable.
Zendaya froze and looked up. There, standing with a grin on his face, was her Spider-Man co-star, Tom Holland, wearing a casual outfit with stylish glasses.
"Awnn, baby! How are you? Why didn't you tell me you were coming?" she exclaimed, jumping into his arms.
Tom laughed, holding her close. "I wanted to surprise you. I finished the promotional duties for Uncharted, and I had some free time before shooting The Crowded Room. So, I thought, what better to do than to come visit my baby? Plus, I missed you," he said, smiling ear to ear.
Zendaya hugged him tighter. "Missed you so much, baby."
As they embraced, Sam coughed from the side, teasing them both. "Yes, oppress us single people. That's perfect. Didn't you want to sleep, Z? You see your superhero boyfriend, and suddenly the sleep is gone?"
Zendaya, still wrapped in Tom's arms, smiled lazily. "Yes, the sleep is gone. My hero is here now."
Tom chuckled while Sam gagged playfully but with a smile on her face.
"Don't worry, dear," Tom said, turning to Sam. "Just rest. I'll be here waiting."
Zendaya nodded in agreement, her exhaustion finally catching up to her. The sleep overtook her, and she drifted off.
What felt like hours later, Zendaya was roused by the sound of raised voices.
"I'm telling you, he's British. I remember an interview where he said it!" one voice argued.
"Have you heard him talk? He doesn't sound British at all!" another voice replied.
Zendaya groggily opened her eyes, her voice hoarse as she interrupted them. "What's going on? Why are you two arguing?"
"Sorry, did we wake you up?" Tom asked, moving closer. "It's Sam. I don't know why she's so insistent on this. Sorry, she woke you up."
Sam looked wronged as she retorted, "Wow, says the guy who can't face facts."
Zendaya, now fully awake, raised an eyebrow. "What's all this about?"
Sam sighed dramatically. "Well, after you fell asleep, the producer came by to congratulate you on a successful shoot. He heard you were sleeping and just said to greet you. He also left two VIP tickets for tonight's Ethan Jones show as a gift for the main cast of Euphoria."
Zendaya's eyes widened slightly. "Oh, that's nice," she said. But then she noticed the conversation taking a turn. "Wait, what's the argument?"
Tom, now standing with a playful smirk, answered first. "It's because I said Ethan jones was British."
Sam cut in, "And I argued that he is not. I'm still right. He's American!"
Zendaya stared at them both, blinking slowly. "You guys woke me up for this?"
Tom, eager to prove his point, grinned. "Well, if you were half the fan you really say you are, you'd know he is British."
Zendaya rolled her eyes, groaning. "Of course, he's American. I mean, listen to him he speaks like an American."
Sam laughed, victorious. "See? Told you." Seeing tom wanting to argue more
Zendaya pulled out her phone. "I'm not doing this with you guys. I'll just Google it."
They both stopped bickering as Zendaya searched for the answer. "Well, look at that. He was born in Britain," she said smugly.
Tom raised an eyebrow. "Ah, I told you!"
Zendaya smirked. "But he and his family moved here years ago and are naturalized citizens now."
Sam chuckled, clearly proud of herself. "Eh, eh, I told you!"
Tom rolled his eyes but grinned. "Okay, okay, but technically, he is still British."
Sam and Zendaya both gave him an exasperated look.
"So, when does the show start?" Zendaya asked, changing the topic.
"By 7. We're just 20 minutes away," Sam replied.
Zendaya checked the time. "It's still 6. We've got time."
Tom was a little confused. "Wait, you want to go? I thought you didn't like his songs."
Zendaya laughed lightly. "I never said I didn't like him. I just don't get the hype. But hey, I never pass up an opportunity like this. Plus, it's a gift from production, so of course I'm going. It could help with publicity if we're all there together."
Sam added, "You can say that again. The place is sold out."
Zendaya frowned. "Wait, why don't you want me to go?"
Tom smirked scratching his head awkwardly. "I never said that. It's just… I'm was going to use your ticket."
With Zendaya saying "well you can use the other one"
Sam raised her hand. "I called dibs on the other ticket! No way I'm missing out on Ethan Jones!"
Zendaya looked at Sam. "Well, I'm sure you can still come."
Tom grinned. "Oh, I'm definitely going knowing the whole main cast would be there, but it would be impossible to find tickets now." when he said the first part Zendaya just rolled her eyes
Sam waved her hand dismissively. "Yeah, yeah. You're Spiderman. Just go. They'll let you in. They'll recognize you."
Tom's eyes widened. "Really?"
Sam nodded confidently. "Of course. Just walk right in."
Zendaya raised an eyebrow. "Settled. We're all going. I need to freshen up first. You two figure it out."
She stood and headed for the restroom. Sam screamed from behind heading outside, "I'm coming too! I need to put on some makeup, and I hope the makeup team left some of their kits. I need to look good for Ethan!"
Tom, standing nearby, listened to the sound of the shower running, an evil smile spreading across his face. He locked the trailer door and walked quietly to the side of the shower.
