Chapter 28: XXVIII. Future Problems
Since the death of his best friend, Captain Drigielix has had certain problems to be able to concentrate on his duty, although he decently exercised his role as captain in his guild, even the winged dragon had certain conflicts due to the death of that female dragon, She had supported and guided him, practically she had given him much since his training as a warrior and because of an annoying and weak human, a great dragon had lost her life. Drigielix was many times thinking of challenging the human to an official death duel to give revenge to his fallen companion and let fate decide if he lived or died after that, but when he saw those recruits who learned and counted on him, Captain Drigielix put those thoughts aside.
"Captain Drigielix. Are you still thinking about the human and your dead companion?" Ashurix asks when she finds her captain looking at Kuketzi's sword.
"Sub-Captain Ashurix, this .." the dragon put aside the sword of his dead companion.
"You don't have to worry about my captain" she takes her captain's hand to comfort him. "I know, she has been a great warrior and a model of a dragon for many of us. It still makes me angry as Magarai killed her for an inferior human, but we must move on, you must move on so that Kuketzi's memory will not be never lost. " Captain Drigielix was saddened by the loss of his friend. Yet those words shed some light on the dark pain he felt. "Someday Alexandra will have hers deserved of hers and not even Magarai will be able to prevent it or act in response to the consequences that the human has gotten," she affirms, taking the dragon's hand tightly to show her encouragement and hopes to him and his dead captain.
"Thank you very much" the dragon smiles kindly, "I would just like to know. Why did she allow a level, one warrior, to accompany them on a mission to Rulliam?" the dragon wondered, taking one last look at her sword.
"Don't tell me that she now feels empathy for the human" captain Drigielix quickly denies that.
"It's not that, I'm just saying" she lets out a heavy sigh, "if she had done what any captain with good common sense would do, she would have avoided her death. Maybe we would still have the human in our ranks, but at least She too." He points out, Ashurix watches the depressed dragon and would not allow him to suffer anymore.
After the fight of both Greater Dragons, the group had to camp in the cave that Rophttys had brought to Alexandra earlier, Magarai gave an evil eye every so often to both skeletal dragons, while Ssaull was quite unconcerned by the dragon's gaze. His attention was more fixed on the green dragon that seemed uncomfortable to look at him, this affected the dragon who seemed to suffer from that indifference.
"Well, I doubt that a dragon or wild beast dares to pass through here, I did what they both asked me and marked the area with the sleeping, poisonous and paralyzing traps they gave me," says the human proud of herself.
"That's my daughter, I'm proud of you" the ocean dragon praises smiling.
"Without a doubt, you are improving as a warrior, who would say that a crybaby like you would finally grow up as a warrior" expressed the dragon with a humorous tone which makes him win three violent glances against him.
"Incredible that a bastard like you has helped my daughter," said the dragon with disgust saying those words. "However, I am in your debt, if something had happened to my daughter, I don't know what she would have done," says the dragon approaching her daughter with her tail.
"You killed the captain of the best guild in Shairum, I think that gives us an idea of what you can do" comments the dragon leaning against the wall of the cave enjoying the bonfire.
"I see you know" Magarai replies keeping her gaze on the dragon's movements.
"What can I tell you, when you are a wandering salesman like me you can hear many stories, rumors, and gossip" he answers, closing his eyes.
"I do not understand how you can lie so comfortably in front of an enemy, I could take advantage of it and kill you and the dragon that accompanies you" Rophttys is alarmed and takes a knife as a means of defense in case of emergency.
"Hahaha, maybe it's true, in other conditions you would kill me easily, of course, if I don't defend myself." the dragon lets out a yawn, relaxing more. This seemed to have offended Magarai in some way, but her daughter stops her from causing another fight.
"Mom please be understanding, I know maybe they both have their story, but if it weren't for him, I wouldn't be here." Alexandre sees how the dragon scratches his belly more and more comfortably. "However, I don't blame you if you want to hit him from time to time when he and I made the trip together, he was a headache for me at first" affirms the human to which her mother lets out a small laugh.
"That hurt a lot" Alexandra smiles at Ssaull's comment.
"Eh, excuse me" Alexandra and Magarai look at Rophttys. "Why does a dragon-like you have a human daughter?"
"Rophttys you should not ask such things"
Ssaull points out because it was none of their business that issue and after a fight with Magarai, the blue dragon did not want to start another.
"Most likely Magarai realized that she was too old and she wanted a son to leave a legacy" he receives a rock hit in the face of him thrown by Alexandra.
"Does everything have to be a game or insult to you?" Alexandra asks her annoying friend.
"Only if that amuses me" he replied with his usual smile.
"Tonight couldn't be more cursed", Magarai says, regretting more and more that she didn't kill Ssaull, but if her daughter's judgment was to trust him, the dragon mother would trust her daughter's instincts.
Ever since she found out that a holy relic somehow accepted her daughter, Magarai felt that it gave her baby certain confidence and voice in certain things. Even so, a part of her wondered how a small human received the approval of a relic from Mother Desthy, this was a kind of blasphemy for her, on the other hand, Magarai considered that her daughter should be important and special for being recognized for the relic, maybe that was some kind of sign that she was part of the dragons now, she just hoped that no one wanted to hurt her for this recognition.
On the outskirts of Shairum, a group of stealthy assassins commanded by Captain Rellix, due to previous failures to get hold of the sacred relic carried by the human, the evil captain considered that if some mercenaries failed to subdue a simple human who played to be a dragon warrior, then she hoped this new tactic would work. Those dragons were more than all dragons of the oceanic race of dark colors to be able to take advantage of the darkness of the night so as not to be detected, they already knew where to look and they knew that the Greater Oceanic Dragon was outside fulfilling a messenger mission, for which Those assassins had planned to take advantage of that window of opportunity to kill the human while she slept, although it only required a single assassin, thanks to the new information that Rellix had received from the human's abilities and skills, the dragon thought that five dragons they were necessary to get the job done.
"Check each room until you find her, we can't let her get out of this house alive. According to the captain, there may be some dragons that sympathize with the human girl and that can complicate the job" mentions the first assassin.
"I would have liked to come alone, so this easy reward would be all mine" mentions the second assassin.
"You already know that if Captain Rellix says something, we comply" answer the third, being more prudent.
The dragons reviewed each place and each possible hiding place, they got excited as if it were a kind of game for them, where the reward would be a pathetic human who would be scared to see them, as time passed and each place was thoroughly visited and reviewed The murderer group had realized that the human was not in the place, they wondered if she had anticipated another attempt on her life and she had secretly moved.
Alexandra and Rophttys were asleep, letting sleep make them forget the terrible night they both spent, Magarai takes off part of her Greater Dragon outfit to tuck her daughter into her so that she can rest better. Before her eyes still saw the tender five-year-old girl who always wanted to go everywhere with her mother, now she was a strong and adventurous woman capable of fighting her fights, Magarai was eager to see the end of the road that her daughter had taken and see the kind of warrior she would become.
"It's very beautiful to see how you care for someone who is technically worthless to dragons like us," says Ssaull looking at the fire.
Magarai noted that his gaze was not that of a mocking or irritating dragon, it was that of a strong and serious warrior. She hadn't seen that look on him for a long time, It means that something important was going through the head of that dragon.
"What do you want Ssaull?" she stares at the dragon.
"Well, as I say, it is difficult to say" he clarifies caressing Rophttys seeing how she smiled sleepily for it.
"Simple, just say it" Ssaull looks at Magarai so she can speak openly.
"I want to know about you and her" he points to Alexandra. "I want to know if one day you will tell him the truth about her parents" Magarai feels a sudden fear at those words.
"I don't need to ask you, you know, still. Why haven't you told him the truth yourself?" she asks curiously why he didn't tell her daughter the truth about her parents and what she had happened to him. Did he want to extort her? Manipulate it? She wanted to know.
"Ha," The dragon just smiles softly. "I have no bad intention, I can swear to you on our honor as Greater Dragons, I only tell you this because" he takes the time to see the human who fondly takes those clothes that served as sheets for her. Ssaull is happy to see the human being so safe with them despite being different species. "I feel like Alexandra deserves to know."
"It's not easy Ssaull, if I tell you the truth, Alexandra may not stand it. I'm not worried about being hated by her, because I know I deserve it because of what I did to her people, but I'm afraid that she will lose the will to live once you know. "
She says with great fear of the emotional fragility that her daughter has, after all, that the human had gone through physically and emotionally, she was afraid that if the human found out about the sins of the dragon whom she trusted most, the dragon feared that this would be the last nail to break her daughter.
"Magarai, if you allow me the friendly observation with you, I want you to know that if Alexandra finds out the truth and not thanks to you, it may be that what scares you will come true and most likely that she will still hate you after death"
Magarai after hearing those words, the dragon felt her heartbreak for the possibility of being the cause of a possible great pain for that human that she loved as much as her daughter, Ssaull as an act of kindness offers her to the dragon a bit of a concoction that was a delight among dragons which she accepts.
"Alexandra may at first resent and hate us, but if you raised her well and I am sure that is a fact, I promise you that she will forgive you and will continue to see you as her mother despite the damage of the past" he dragon smiles sympathetically at the ocean dragon.
Both dragons took advantage of a few hours of the night to confidently talk about different topics again to have a pleasant time between the two of them, neither was aware that the green dragon was awake, they pretended that she was asleep, but the two dragons had barely started. to speak, she had woken up being able to hear many things that now she could not forget.
