Tales from the Moon: Dragon Legends

Chapter 8: VIII. The Pain of Betrayal

In the abandoned lands of Rulliam, Alexandra seemed to be suffering from a terrible nightmare. She could see how her comrades in arms were beating her up and leaving her fate for her to suffer a terrible death. Why if she was loyal to them? It couldn't be real, maybe it was just a bad dream that was bothering her. She wakes up suddenly scared of the reality of those images that the dream of her showed her, but when she felt her arms and legs immobilized from her and how alone she was; Alexandra realizes that more than a dream, everything that she had happened to him had been real. She couldn't believe it, they had beaten, robbed, and abandoned her as if she were a criminal or some garbage that could be thrown away. She wanted to move but was tied up and therefore could not do so, feeling like crying for having been betrayed by those who were her friends or allies at least, Alexandra remains calm knowing that if she showed signs of weakness it would be her end and in a certain way, her will to keep fighting was the only thing that kept her still in control. Trying to free her arms, the human moved them with the little mobility that she possessed, hoping to find a weak knot, break it in a way but nothing achieved, the dragon that tied her knew very well how to incapacitate someone with those knots; still she would not stop trying feeling more and more desperate to be free and find a way to return home and take revenge on those who abandoned her. However, time passed and their strength became less due to the lack of food or water, he spent two hours or more trying to get rid of it, but without any success and the hunger became strong and annoying for her.

While she resolved her situation, in the kingdom of Shairum the Kuketzi group was already arriving to regain strength, making a trip as long as Rulliam and returning all in the same night left them all exhausted, they wanted to rest a little before facing any mission or fights between guilds. Those who accompanied Kuketzi had earned her favor and good rest as she clarified along the way; everything would go well for them until they see a Greater Dragon of the oceanic waiting for them next to her, Sub Captain Drigielix. The Kuketzi boys feared for their tail, but the captain reassures them by ensuring that everything would go well and if necessary she would be the only one who would bear the sin of all as long as the glory of them and the dragons remains high. Even if she had to die for it.

Before she said anything, Magarai's long tail had already encircled her neck.

"Alexandra, where is she?" she asks her with a bloodthirsty look, everyone was going to take their swords against the oceanic dragon. Regardless of the titles, attacking without provocation in a guild headquarters would not be forgiven. "If your men raise their weapons it means that they are prepared to die uselessly. I just want you to tell me what I want to know." With that, Magarai released the winged female so she could speak.

"Captain Kuketzi !!" Two loyal land dragons run to help her but she quickly rejoins herself without wanting help.

"Doesn't aggressiveness seem unnecessary to you when you want to ask?" she lets out a relieved sigh that it was nothing serious for her neck "Besides, Great Magarai, why of all the dragons should I know the whereabouts of the warrior Alexandra?" She asks trying to evaluate the situation, managing to see that next to her a red-winged dragon was on the ground without being able to move, possibly injured, but still alive because she saw him breathing, she deduced that it was Magarai tortured him to have information since He was in charge of the barracks doors, no one entered or left without him seeing them.

With small steps the oceanic dragon gets closer to Captain Kuketzi, leaning a little so that her eyes could meet she repeats the same question, hoping for a satisfactory answer and not giving her a reason to tear off her tail. Kuketzi moves her pupils to see her friend Drigielix who seemed worried too, the dragon wielding her sword but did not have a look that inspired confidence. Everyone knew that Magarai could kill anyone in less than a minute if you have the misfortune to face her, the legend of her was very well known and those who are brave or idiotic enough to face her suffered from an instinctive fear for their lives.

"Dammit!" she cries out tired and increasingly desperate to break free from her bondage.

She had already lost the notion of how much time had passed and still nothing, her fear of dying became stronger taking over the little control that the human still had.

"Come on Alexandra, you must free yourself please, do a better effort than this or you will die as if nothing"

She repeated as if that somehow motivated her to do better as if a few simple words could eliminate the harsh reality she was facing. Hearing the sound of animals in the area only made her more nervous wondering if they were going to attack her, she felt helpless and she wanted the help of anyone who would protect her from dangers. She was getting back to feeling like a little girl who is afraid of everything and depends on her mother for nothing to scare or hurt her, she felt pathetic.

"You should activate the shield of your forearm like last time, I bet that would help you break any good knot" The girl hearing that made a hand movement to activate the mechanism that released the shield, and as the voice said, she finally freed herself smiling from at least not being tied by the hand and repeats the process with the tie of her legs, keeping the shield to place her arm between the ties of her leg and break it in the same way.

Seeing her move desperately like a wild animal that tries to be free by taking off the broken strings, the mysterious being approaches carefully so as not to scare her, when she was close enough to the human to see what she was doing, this with a quick movement throws direct earth at her In the eyes of the mysterious creature causing it to instinctively cover itself, she takes advantage of the short window of opportunity; she runs off as fast as she can nervous and scared. Releasing a small sigh of resignation, the creature follows her from the heights of her so as not to lose sight of her and that she does not try to throw anything at her face again. Because the girl did not know much about the area because it was the first time she was there, she did not know in which direction she was running, it was just her and her desire to survive. She would not allow him to harm the mysterious being who gave her the idea of the shield, she still had not realized it due to the panic she felt; without a weapon in hand or even a plan, she felt completely helpless. She manages to hide in a cave that she found inside the forest, trying to rest by taking some air and trying to regain control of herself as best as possible. Peering her eyes a little to see if she had lost anyone who had been following her, she watched for a couple of minutes relaxing when she didn't see anything, thus feeling calmer.

Leaning on one side of the cave breathing more calmly trying to maintain his little calm and control to think better.

"Very well Alexandra you managed to survive, you are a little upset, scared, and wanting to cry for a mom like a newborn baby, but you are still alive and that is important hehe" she closes her eyes wondering what to do.

"Yes, all thanks to me, and instead of thanking me, you're leaving" the girl gets angry and backs away, dragging herself throwing everything she grabbed to keep distance between her and the owner of the voice. "Enough human fool!" her strange creature her tail to protect himself from her "What a warrior you turned out to be! Stop acting like a scared little girl, that's an order!"

Finding herself against the wall of the cave and seeing no more escape routes, Alexandra closes her eyes crying for not having been able to become a true warrior and having to die acting like a coward; she without having fought with honor and courage as every good warrior would like to die.

"Just finish this quickly please, have mercy on me and don't make me suffer" she begged to cry, covering her face with her legs.

Alexandra was waiting for her end to come which never came it seemed that nothing was happening, she was like this for a few minutes, and not even the strange creature said anything to her, so she slowly opens her eyes and moves her legs to see.

"If you've finished acting like a depressing brat, here's some water and some food to regain your strength"

The dragon throws him a bag full of food and water near where Alexandra was, when she saw the mysterious creature well she recognized that it was Ssaull, the skeletal blue dragon from that first mission that she had and he was helping her.

"Eat human, if you want to calm your nerves better, a full stomach always helps", she turns her back to give him some privacy to eat. "Don't try anything stupid, you have no weapons and I could easily subdue you, so we avoid that and when you're done we'll talk" After saying that, the blue dragon sits on the side of the cave to guard the area, waiting for the human girl calm down so she can talk.

At first, she had doubts about whether to accept the food bag or not, she was very hungry, she missed her two meals for the day and was not even used to hunger, she did not yet have that type of mental preparation to resist this type of situation. But she was not going to fall into another trap, even if she had to starve, she would not give the dragon the pleasure of falling into her trap, throwing the bag back at him.

Seeing that she did not touch a single fruit or jar, the dragon could imagine that she distrusted the quality of the food that he brought.

"You know where I come from, if someone offers you some food, the right thing to do would be to accept it and eat it" clarifies the dragon, lifting the bag with its tail and eating an apple from there. "I thought that a human girl like you, I don't know, sixteen years old wouldn't take that famine that long," he said with his mouth full and making sounds of enjoying said fruit.

"Fifteen".

"Excuse me? I didn't hear that" he turns to see her.

"I'm fifteen, I still have a few months to turn sixteen" she repeated, the girl gets into a combat position despite not having weapons to protect herself "Why are you here? How did you find me? How are you doing? to kill? "she asked without lowering her guard, but the dragon laughed because he knew that she could not defend herself with how weak she was from hunger.

"First of all eat and drink some water, your species is supposed to continue growing until twenty-one years old, and having a good diet is essential for what they are growing," said the dragon confusing the human because he did not know where he got that information.

"That's true?" confused question.

"I read it out there, also, if I had wanted to kill you, I would not have used fruit or poisoned water, I would have attacked you when you were curled up against the wall, so lower this tension a little and relax, I have no bad intentions," he said.

The dragon handed the bag of food to the girl which she desperately agrees to eat, Alexandra could no longer hold her empty stomach and she was grateful that it was fresh fruit and water that she was consuming.

The blue dragon sees how the girl, despite feeding, was not taking her eyes off him, he did not blame her, already at ten years old, the little dragons are taught to always observe possible enemies and never lose sight to potential threats, and since the human was alone for a long time, she was most likely on high alert. At least she no longer cried pitifully or pathetically, he couldn't bear that kind of weakness in anyone.

"Thanks for the food," he said, swallowing the last bite, feeling better for having eaten. "But don't think that's why I'm going to trust you."

"And you shouldn't, I could betray you like the ones who brought you here" when he said that, Alexandra remembers the night her companions betrayed her and abandoned her at Kuktezi's order, this caused her to feel bad again.

"You saw it?" Intrigued, asking if he had seen what happened to her, he shook his head.

"It is rare for a little human to be here, but it is not difficult to guess that someone betrayed you when your arms and legs are tied in the middle of the most dangerous land of all realms. You are lucky that I put those tracking and protection spells on you." He affirmed.

"As you say?"

"Whoever did this to you if that bastard had taken your armor off, wild animals would have felt safer to devour you when you were asleep" Alexandra reacts to the blue's comment, she had wondered why they let her keep her armor if even the knives were removed from his ankles.

"Tracking and protection spells?" she asks sitting next to the dragon, but still keeping her eyes on him. The dragon shakes his head nodding "When did you ...?" she manages to remember the moment that dragon had taken her helmet and returned it to her without any problem.

"Sxhiesr Dka's Iril, serves to keep you linked to someone to know where he or she is and Sxhiesr Re'hux Dersh, protects the object from being separated from its master, as long as he is still alive" Alexandra upon hearing decides to check at least some of spells.

"Sxhiesr Dka's Iril" when saying those words she feels as if something was guiding her to handle said spell Magarai when whispering her mother's name she closes her eyes and sees how in that darkness a path of purple fire appears, she knew that that path would guide him to his mother regardless of the distance, only that upon casting the said spell she leaned back to the side of the cave feeling exhausted from the lack of mana.

"Incredible," he says, amazed to see how she had done the same spell that he did so easily, it almost seemed a prodigy in using the language of the ancestors and he did not understand how she knew how it worked if he had not explained it to her. "Without a doubt, you are a quite interesting creature to see, it hurts that your companions did not see you that way" he mentioned with pity for the human who with her little strength clenches an annoying fist.

"They beat me and left me to die," she looks at Ssaull and he notices an immense fury in her gaze "I entrusted my back to them, believing that they would take care of me like a partner, and they left me alone and with nothing to defend me. Yes. I can get back to Shairum, I can take revenge"

When the dragon is surprised at this statement that the human had made, although it is most likely that if she faced a captain as strong as Kuketzi, the human would end up dead instead of the dragon. Still, he liked seeing her act like a fierce warrior and not a scared child begging for her life.

"I doubt that you will succeed, but if you are willing to rest and regain your strength; but above all listening, to me, I guarantee you that we could achieve something as delicious as what you have in mind" the dragon leans in the entrance showing that he was not worried about spending the night in the cave with the girl. This would be a small makeshift shelter to spend the night, Alexandra did not know if she could trust that dragon who tried to steal from her in the past, but she helped her and in a sense, she was in debt to him.

She didn't want to trust another dragon other than her mother or best friend, she wasn't even sure whether to trust Drigielix anymore, but she couldn't move to use the tracking spell, and being honest with herself maybe Ssaull is her best option to return. a home without so much risk, she did not know the way back home and had no weapons or something that would serve as one, so she just closed her eyes hoping tomorrow would be easier to have a plan and thus be back in your home.
