Team Order

Chapter 6: The Scientists

The two scientists, Shawn and Ollie, worked downstairs in the lab. They made it through to The Order by nepotism but could've gotten through without it anyways as they were very intelligent. Both of them were Chinese and studied the Arts of Realistic Maths. Realistic Maths was a relatively new thing and very complicated to explain. In summary, it is used by taking relevent things into account (i.e the speed of a rabbit) and you could therefore predict the probability or answer. Ollie worked more on the mathematical side of things whereas Shawn worked on the computer and programmed the commands based on Ollie's maths. Everything worked like cogs in a clock.

"Have you built the arm already? ",said Ollie.

"Not yet. But I'm working on it already!", answered Shawn. They were building a weapon where the power of its blast would be based on the shooter's IQ. If they were really stupid, the blast would barely push their target whereas if they were really smart, they could obliterate their opponent with barely any effort. This was obviously a new and unusual concept that nobody has really built on before. It was mainly was for the scientist's own purposes since they don't know how to use any weapons and that with this particular weapon they are making, they could potentially blow up whole buildings just by being smart.

Travis then walked down the stairs to see how they are getting on. Travis didn't know the functionality of the weapon nor did he care.

"How is it going?", Travis asked as he saw the prototype on the desk.

"Well, it isn't complete yet. But you could have a go if you want." , offered Ollie, curious to see his weapon used for the first time.

"Is it safe to use?", questioned Travis asking in case his whole hand could get blown up.

"Yeah sure.", Shawn lied, crossing his fingers hoping it actually doesn't blow up his arm. David had already spent a lot of effort building a body part that Shawn didn't want him to build another one. Travis put on the huge machine on his hand while Ollie stuck a wire from the machine to Travis' head so that the machine could read his brain waves.

Afterwards, Ollie took a few steps as Travis aimed at a nearby wall. Both scientists covered their eyes and looked the other way as they could hear the energy gathering to the weapon as it measured Travis' brain waves. For a few moments, nothing had seemed to happen, but according to all the data recorded, it seemed that the machine was fully-functioning. At first Ollie was confused as to why there was no beam, but then it struck him. He obviously thought this through but he thought it was near impossible. The machine worked perfeclty but well... Ollie tried to find a kind way to put it. Shawn also had seemed to know what was the problem and tried to keep it to himself and stop himself smiling, as Travis was just confused as to what was going on. If Travis found out why the machine wasn't working, he could potentially kill both of the scientists.

"Evidently, this weapon doesn't work.", Travis concluded.

"We will do our best to fix it" , Ollie ensured.

"Well get to work then", Travis said as he took the weapon off his arm.

The scientists stood still and stayed as quiet as possible until Travis left the room completely.
