Chapter 139: Team Rocket’s Second-in-Command! [139]
From the initial exchanges, Luo Yuan had already noted two important points.
The first was Mewtwo's mobility.
When Deoxys had moved behind Mewtwo, the psychic Pokémon should have turned swiftly. But with the M2 Restraint armor, Mewtwo's movements were stiff and limited.
It was clear that, despite the M2 Restraint being custom-made for Mewtwo, it still impacted its speed.
In its current state, Mewtwo was like a dancer shackled by heavy chains.
The second point concerned Mewtwo's psychic power.
As a psychic himself for several months now, Luo Yuan had gained a strong understanding of psychic energy.
From the single burst of psychic power Mewtwo had used for defense, Luo Yuan could sense how wild and unrestrained Mewtwo's psychic energy felt.
He wasn't sure if this chaotic energy was inherent to Mewtwo or a result of it not yet mastering its powers due to its recent creation.
Either way… it seemed that Mewtwo needed the M2 Restraint to control its power.
---
Both of these points were encouraging for Luo Yuan.
Battling an opponent shackled by its own armor and unable to fully control its power gave Deoxys a significantly better chance of victory!
With this realization, Luo Yuan focused back on the arena.
By now, Deoxys and Mewtwo had already exchanged over a dozen blows.
The two moved back and forth, with Deoxys using its speed advantage to constantly harass Mewtwo.
Although Mewtwo's movements were less fluid due to the M2 Restraint, it was able to shatter Deoxys' weaker attacks with ease.
The psychic energies clashed, creating invisible ripples that radiated outward.
The psychic waves left Matori a bit dizzy, forcing her to summon her Xatu to shield her from the lingering energy.
Meanwhile, the energy shield surrounding the metal walls of the arena rippled under the impact.
Finally, Luo Yuan intervened in the battle.
With a single gesture, Deoxys, who had just disengaged from Mewtwo, received Luo Yuan's next command.
"Deoxys, switch to Attack Form!"
In an instant, Deoxys' form changed from Speed to a more aggressive Attack Form.
Luo Yuan commanded, "Shadow Ball!"
A Ghost-type Shadow Ball materialized in Deoxys' hands, and with a quick flick of its four tentacles, it hurled the orb at Mewtwo.
Whizz—!
As the Shadow Ball streaked toward it, Mewtwo displayed a heightened sense of alertness.
"Psycho Cut!"
Mewtwo swung its arm.
Psychic energy burst from its body, restrained by the M2 armor, and formed a glowing, translucent blade.
The solidified Psycho Cut sliced through the air, targeting the Shadow Ball.
One of Mewtwo's signature Psychic moves, the Psycho Cut emanated a piercing intensity.
Slash!
The Shadow Ball was split in half almost instantly.
Boom!
The Shadow Ball exploded mid-air, its remnants swallowing the Psycho Cut.
Mewtwo seemed to have anticipated this outcome.
Without hesitation, it fired another Psycho Cut, this time directly into the burst of Shadow Ball energy, leaving Deoxys little time to react.
Deoxys was forced to raise a wide psychic barrier to shield itself.
Emerging from the Shadow Ball explosion, the Psycho Cut pressed forward, slowed but still powerful.
Though weakened by the blast, it remained on course, slicing through Deoxys' defenses as it homed in.
As the Psycho Cut neared, Luo Yuan remained unfazed.
"Deoxys, Defense Form—use Iron Defense!"
Deoxys quickly switched forms.
In its heavier Defense Form, its band-like arms crossed over its core, and a metallic sheen covered its body, allowing it to endure Mewtwo's Psycho Cut head-on.
The Psycho Cut barely left a scratch, only carving a shallow line across Deoxys' surface.
Even Giovanni couldn't help but raise an eyebrow.
To block Mewtwo's Psycho Cut so effortlessly… that was impressive.
But Luo Yuan, well aware of Deoxys' defensive capabilities, considered it standard.
Had there been more time, he would have also ordered a Reflect, which would have reduced the Psycho Cut's impact to no more than a superficial scratch.
Neither Luo Yuan nor Deoxys were ones to simply take a hit without striking back.
Without missing a beat, Luo Yuan instructed Deoxys to counterattack.
"Gravity!"
In the games, Gravity was often used to bring down Levitate or Flying-type Pokémon.
In Deoxys' hands, however, it became a skill to control the battlefield and restrict Mewtwo's movements.
An invisible pulse radiated from Deoxys, making everyone—even those outside the arena, like Giovanni and Matori—feel a sudden, crushing weight.
Everyone felt a powerful pull toward the ground, making even the simple act of lifting a foot incredibly difficult.
And this was merely the spillover from the gravity field.
Inside the battlefield, the effect was far more intense.
The very ground groaned under the weight, with portions of the arena where Tyranitar had dug beginning to collapse, revealing tunnels beneath.
As the primary target, Mewtwo bore the brunt of the increased gravity.
The M2 armor, already heavy, now felt several times its normal weight.
Mewtwo attempted to float using its psychic power.
It succeeded—momentarily.
Even Deoxys' Gravity field couldn't fully restrict a legendary Pokémon.
But Mewtwo was forced to descend almost immediately.
The overwhelming force from the ground and the relentless pressure sapped its psychic power at an unsustainable rate, forcing it to conserve energy by remaining grounded.
Seeing Mewtwo return to the ground, Luo Yuan knew his plan was working.
With Mewtwo now pinned to the earth under the Gravity field, it had essentially become a stationary target for Deoxys.
A smile spread across Luo Yuan's face as he gestured forward.
"Deoxys, use Dark Pulse!"
When it came to battling a Psychic-type, Dark, Bug, and Ghost moves were the top choices.
Deoxys had no connection to Bug-type moves, and Shadow Ball, as it had shown earlier, was easy for Mewtwo to counter.
But Dark Pulse was wide-ranging and nearly impossible to counter.
Deoxys' core began to glow.
With an icy, emotionless stare, it emitted an aura of fear, its dark, chilling energy rippling outward, directed toward Mewtwo.
