Terror's Magic

Chapter 17: 17: Victim

They closed the door to the stairwell. The scampering footstep came and left; all they knew was that it was below them. Vince and Ben walked slowly and quietly so as not to attract its attention. The plan was to hunker down in a classroom, close the blinds and wait it out.

It was a survivalist plan but not a heroic plan for Ben; Vince was a meat shield. They were 3 feet from 10 metres away from a classroom when the bottom floor, door to the stairwell slammed open and scampering footsteps followed. These footsteps were rough and heavy.

Vince and Ben slipped into the classroom as a small girl came up the stairs. Ben and Vince hide out of sight, beneath the view of the window and out of sight from the girl. Ben wanted to save her, but Ben took a peek; her abdomen was shocked with blood.

She was hurt; Ben stood up, "Lock the door, shut the blinds." He whispered, and he exited the classroom; Ben approached her and whispered, "You've got to go." The girl had raven black hair that was long length and a nose ring and spoke up in a panicked voice, "The library has a safe room."

Ben got on one knee and started to freeze her leaking wound. It hurt, but she understood that bleeding to death would be long, and with that thing, she barely escaped, probably that thing which was probably on its way. Ben got up; she was about to lead her to the classroom when he heard fast yet light footsteps.

Ben looked towards the stairwell as it emerged through the 1-foot gap; it didn't just walk through. It slid through. Ben immediately froze it, but it just kept moving; Ben picked her up immediately and started to run.

It gave chase. Two potential victims.
