Chapter 50
Chapter 50
Su Fei and Su Ming looked at each other, but there was nothing to say, as they were supposed to be the closest blood relatives. But they couldn’t find the words.
They glanced at each other, then looked away, unable to start a conversation.
As the head of the family, Su Fei broke the silence first. “Have you eaten?”
As a Chinese tradition, this greeting has been passed down for a long time. It’s a simple yet deep expression of goodwill, used in awkward situations or when meeting familiar people.
Su Ming: …
“Not yet. There’s a family issue going on, so I came out without eating,” Su Ming quickly replied, blurting out what was on her mind.
Usually, she kept things hidden and rarely spoke the truth to anyone.
“Since you haven’t eaten, let’s have dinner here. After that, we can talk in the study,” Su Fei suggested after some thought.
“Sit down and watch TV. Don’t move. I’ll help in the kitchen. There are snacks on the table, feel free to have some,” Su Fei told Su Ming before rolling up her sleeves and heading to the kitchen to assist Ningning.
Ningning was cooking in the kitchen, feeling a bit curious about what the two sisters were talking about outside. However, he knew Su Fei would eventually tell him everything.
Ningning was surprised to see Su Fei leaving Su Ming alone in the living room. Although their living room was nice, with a TV and a sofa, it wasn’t right to leave a guest alone. The couple went straight to the kitchen without accompanying her.
“Don’t worry, she came on her own,” Su Fei said casually, not bothering about Su Ming at the moment. She felt it would be awkward to engage with Su Ming now.
“Alright, I’ll make a few more dishes. I bought some cooked food today,” Ningning said, taking out the groceries and setting extra plates.
Su Ming glanced around the small house’s living room. Although it was standalone, it wasn’t large. The living room was small but well-equipped with all the necessary appliances. There were also two or three guest rooms.
However, what surprised her the most was seeing her biological sister cooking in the kitchen. Even if she wasn’t cooking, just helping in the kitchen was something unimaginable for someone who was fiercely independent.
Just like in the Su family, Mother Su and others never set foot in the kitchen. In their eyes, kitchen work was for men.
“Alright, light this gas stove. I’m not used to it. I’m always afraid it’ll explode…” Ningning seized the opportunity to express some minor complaints to Su Fei, gradually strengthening their bond.
“Don’t be afraid. You’ll get used to it. We’ll be using it for a long time in the future,” Su Fei said as she lit the gas stove.
Soon, the dishes were ready, and Su Ming hurried to help bring them to the living room. They didn’t prepare any staple food, just bought some mantou and pancakes from outside.
Since the reform and opening up, there were more and more small vendors selling these items, which greatly facilitated lazy people like them.
With everyone pitching in, they quickly brought all the dishes to the table. They were simple home-cooked dishes, maybe not as tasty as those made by the Su family’s nanny. However, the familiar smell made Su Ming realize how hungry she was. Her stomach rumbled.
“Don’t be shy. Dig in,” Ningning and Su Fei urged Su Ming to eat quickly. Without any alcohol, they went straight to eating.
After all, Su Ming was also hungry and quickly followed suit, eating heartily. This environment was much better than eating at home. There were no worries, and everyone quietly enjoyed their meal. There was no one digging pits in the conversation at the dinner table.
Soon, with everyone being big eaters, especially Su Ming still in the stage of growing, they ate a lot. The dishes were wiped clean, and even the mantou and pancakes were gone.
Su Fei quickly asked Ningning to rest, as he was the most precious person in the family now, and no one could tire Ningning out.
“I’ll wash the bowls and chopsticks myself. You go rest and sleep. Go to sleep now. If you can’t sleep, watch TV and snack!” Su Fei scolded Ningning loudly, but Ningning didn’t mind and obediently went about his own tasks.
Su Fei swiftly threw the bowls and chopsticks into the sink, planning to wash them later. She would only wash them when they were needed for the next meal.
Taking Su Ming with her, Su Fei went straight to the study, poured a cup of tea, and the two of them planned to have a heart-to-heart talk.
“Regardless of your purpose for coming today, let me make one thing clear: I won’t go back. I don’t want to deal with the unfamiliar environment that abandoned me. I’m grown now and don’t want any more trouble,” Su Fei quickly stated her stance.
She didn’t want any entanglements. Her small family was fine now, warm and cozy, and she had everything she needed. With the three courtyards she owned, they would be worth millions in a few decades. Not to mention her writing career.
“Really? Aren’t you going to reconsider? Do you know the status of the Su family in this city? Aren’t you going to reconsider?” Su Ming couldn’t believe someone would give up the Su family’s immense wealth.
“Let me tell you, the Su family is respected in this city. Our mother holds a high position. Otherwise, why would that impostor want to take your place?” Su Ming mocked the impostor in their family, her face filled with sarcasm.
She thought, even that impostor knows the Su family is a fat piece of meat.
After Su Ming spoke a lot, she took a sip of tea and stared at Su Fei’s face. She was amazed that Su Fei remained unfazed. She truly admired her sister, but she still hoped the Su family would fall into her hands in the future.
“Well… I still don’t want to. After saying so much, I’m even more determined to stick to my opinion. It’s too complicated. I don’t want such complicated social connections. I don’t want to live such a tiring life. I think my current life is really good!” Su Fei said calmly.
She knew deep down that she wasn’t someone who coveted power. She didn’t want to be a pawn.
“I can support you, but you must promise not to let anyone from your family come looking for me! Especially that bizarre person you mentioned,” Su Fei could already imagine how the next 200 episodes of the TV drama would play out.
This was like a melodramatic plot straight out of a soap opera.
“Alright…” Su Ming looked deeply into Su Fei’s eyes, seeing her sincerity. Suddenly, she felt they could become close.
“You’ve seen it too. Your brother-in-law is about to give birth. Don’t let them come. They became annoying! And it seems like someone at my school already knows about it. You should go back and handle it,” Su Fei said, rubbing her temples in frustration.
“Alright, don’t worry. Those two at home will be taken care of soon. They won’t have the spare time to come cause trouble,” Su Ming quickly assured her.
Then the two of them chatted endlessly, and their relationship was quite good. There were no intense emotions or dislike towards each other. It was just simple and nice.
When Su Ming returned home, something big had happened at Mother Su’s place.
