Chapter 13 - I Have a Bad Personality
On the second day, I had them shoot at a 70-meter target, and in the afternoon, I had them shoot at an 80-meter target. I observed from around the 70-meter mark.
Beyond 70 meters, the speed clearly dropped.
For both long-range shooters, 70 meters is the limit with a magic power of 70. For me, with a magic power of 40, 40 meters is the limit. Beyond that, the power decreases by half, making it meaningless.
If that’s the case, the spatial storage seems to have a storage capacity of a space with a diameter of 4 meters or dimensions of 4 meters in height, width, and depth.
If the magic pouch was created by imitating spatial storage, it would probably be the one with dimensions of 4 meters in height, width, and depth.
Teleportation magic can currently jump 180 meters seven times, theoretically allowing for a total distance of 1,260 meters. However, jumping 400 meters at once feels like the limit.
If jumping 400 meters three times is the limit, there is still plenty of room for training.
I called the two alternately and had them observe the difference between shooting at 70 meters and shooting at 80 meters.
“Have you both understood the difference?”
“Beyond 70 meters, the speed and power are clearly reduced.”
“I also feel that way, and the accuracy drops significantly.”
“I felt that too. Towards the end, Ice Bullet started wavering and deviating from the target.”
“Practice shooting at 70 meters here and practice shooting at 40-50 meters at home.”
“Don’t reveal your secrets!”
“Of course, even if they are nobles, it’s not absolutely safe. And I think there will be times when you have to show magic to others, but even if you say you’re self-taught, I don’t think people will believe you. In such cases, say that you practiced every day facing the targets with harsh training, where insults and sometimes whips or stones were thrown.”
“You’re still foreseeing things.”
“If not, you two will end up being asked for lessons. Can you refuse that? The fence of nobility is tough.”
“When talking to Kaito, I feel like he’s older than me. Or rather, I feel like I’m a child.”
“Eh, I’m 15, you know.”
“Yeah, I know. But Kaito is right. It reminded me of something unpleasant.”
“Oh, please don’t say that, Onii-san. I finally forgot it.”
“What’s wrong with you two?”
“Every March, there is an event that gathers nobles who have received magic and their children. It’s a magic tournament sponsored by the royal family. Since it’s organized by the royal family, we can’t avoid going, but if we go, we get tired of the arrogance of high-ranking nobles.”
“Nobles have it tough. I’m glad I’m a commoner. I want to turn 16 quickly and become an adventurer.”
“To expose their arrogance, let’s practice.”
“Yeah, let’s get back at those snobbish nobles next year.”
It’s good that they’re enthusiastic about magic practice.
On the third day, I decided to teach them a shotgun for close combat.
I randomly set up stakes with a height of 2 meters about 10-15 meters away, making them firm enough to be cut if hit.
“This is a magic for close combat. First, watch.”
Standing about 15 meters away, I shoot the shotgun from a place close to the randomly placed stakes.
The 12 stakes quickly turned into debris.
“Wow, what power! It’s different from the bullets?”
“Regarding bullets, it’s just slightly different. I’ve made the bullets smaller and shoot them in groups. They only scatter within a 3-meter radius upon impact.”
“It scatters upon impact, and it has this much power?”
“In close combat, you’ll be killed if you aim while shooting magic. When you see the opponent, shoot first without aiming. At that time, there’s a high chance of missing with one shot, but if you shoot a large number of bullets scattered, one of them is likely to hit.”
“Indeed, this magic seems useful for self-defense. Especially in the chaos of melee combat.”
“With slightly larger bullets of the same magic, it becomes like this.”
I shoot a shotgun with tennis ball-sized bullets, and the pillars collapse and fly around, creating a scene of destruction.
“Using larger bullets consumes more magic, so smaller ones are easier.”
“Since you understand how to shoot, I’ll just teach you how to make bullets and the principles. Go back and practice.”
After that, it was all about making bullets and shooting them tirelessly.
“Phine, you can do the same thing with Fireball. Try it, and if you get hit by a bullet with Fireball, you’ll be surprised.”
“Surprised? If a Fireball hits and makes a ‘Gon’ sound, it’ll be surprising. No one expects flames to become solid, after all.”
“Kaito is truly a bundle of eccentricity.”
“I thought about teaching you that eccentricity, but I’ll refrain.”
“Oh, please, Master. Teach me.”
“Well, once you can shoot a shotgun. I’ll show you with just one shot.”
To hit a 40-meter target, I shoot towards the 50-meter target on the right.
Curving it, I hit the 40-meter target on the left, and both of them shook their heads silently.
By the fifth day, I could hit a 70-meter target with a 90% success rate, so I decided to return to the city.
It’s just magic practice, but it felt pitiful to confine it so that the escort knights couldn’t see it.
Upon arriving in the city, the carriage pulled up next to the Adventurer’s Guild. Following me were the knights carrying Magic Pouches, Hyalda, and Phine.
Entering the guild, I noticed all eyes on me.
I sat at the buyback counter and asked Mr. Yahan to buy two Fang Boars.
Mr. Yahan seemed to freeze for a moment. Well, it’s not every day that a nobleman, accompanied by knights, requests a buyback after not showing up for a while.
After thawing from his momentary freeze, Mr. Yahan awkwardly led me to the dismantling area.
Looking at the Fang Boars pulled out of the Magic Pouch, he muttered something like, “Here we go again.” One had a hole in its belly, which was pretty normal. The other one, however, had a problem—there was a hole burned into its hip.
To avoid any questions, I turned my face away, pretending not to notice.
“Hyalda-san, Phine-san, should I sell everything, including the magic stones?”
“Oh, this one’s yours. We can’t imitate adventurers’ manners too much, considering we’re nobles and all. Consider it a thank-you for your help.”
I couldn’t afford to argue here, and considering their noble status, I graciously accepted and informed them that I would sell everything.
During this time, the two of them curiously looked around the guild.
If a poor boy like me wanders around the guild with nobles, it’ll surely become the talk of the town. I’m scared of the next time I come to sell herbs.
Planning to bid them farewell in front of the guild, I found myself pulled onto the carriage, which stopped in front of a magic tool shop that buys Magic Pouches.
Nobles do love their side parking, don’t they? I knew this place well.
If a noble’s carriage is parked on the side of the shop, someone from the shop will come out to welcome them. It’s common sense in this world, but hey, these are familiar faces.
Seeing me descend after Hyalda and Phine, the shopkeeper froze.
Freezing seems to be a trend in this world. Given that I’m still dressed like an adventurer, they shouldn’t mistake me for someone else, but I’m not the friendliest person.
Ignoring the shopkeeper’s greeting, the two entered the shop.
“May I go in? I was escorted here, so I believe there won’t be any mistake.”
“Kaito, what are you doing? Hurry up.”
“Well, I’ve got permission from the shopkeeper. A scruffy kid like me entering a high-end store would tarnish the store’s reputation…”
“Dear customer, please feel free to enter.”
“Eh, is it really okay to enter?”
“Pl-please, go ahead. Welcome, sir.”
With permission granted, I entered, and the two were seated on a sofa, receiving greetings from a man who seemed like the manager.
Wait, this old man’s face is familiar too. He used to glare and scold me with a nasty look before.
The old man seemed to recognize me, and his smoothly courteous movements turned into a menacing stare.
“Hey! Why did you let such a dirty brat in!”
Oh no, he probably mistook me for someone else and is scolding me for past incidents.
However, I can’t admit it. Ignoring the panicked explanation from the shopkeeper, who couldn’t explain the situation in front of Hyalda and Phine, he’s just digging his own grave with a self-laid landmine.
“If this store isn’t worthy of my presence, I’ll take my leave. I’ll discuss the pouch matter some other time.”
Let’s make a quick exit. I feel like whistling right now♪
Leaving behind a stunned Hyalda and Phine, I exited the shop and headed towards the hotel.
—
Manager: “Sir, there’s a limit to disrespect towards my friend. Or is it that my friend’s visit to this shop is unpleasant?”
Hyalda: “He is our mentor. We won’t tolerate any disrespect towards him. Excuse us, big brother.”
Without waiting for the manager’s flustered attempt to stop them, the two boarded the carriage and left.
Manager: “What… Why? How can that dirty brat be friends with someone like them? What does ‘mentor’ even mean?”
Assistant: “Sir, the kid from earlier… H-Hyalda-sama and Phine-sama were with him when they entered the shop.”
Manager: “Why didn’t you tell me earlier!”
Assistant: “Uh, I didn’t get a chance…”
The manager’s roar echoed in the shop, but it was too late.
To think the person he had arrogantly thrown out of the store had connections to the lord’s siblings.
