The Adventurer Who Lacks Magic Power

Chapter 16 - Towards the Royal City

“The fees for Kaito are quite reasonable. The reason I’m telling you this is that many we let escape, and they were involved in shady businesses. Those who operate alone have considerable skills. During the commotion, the city gates were sealed, so even if they escaped, they shouldn’t have left the city. Be cautious; those lurking around might pose a threat to you. Also, at the beginning of February, we will be going to the capital for the Spring Magic Festival. We would like to request your assistance as guards during the journey.”

It seemed like a request considering my safety. Taking advantage of this kindness to go sightseeing in the capital wouldn’t be a bad idea.

“Understood, I accept the request. Once we reach the capital, we’ll go our separate ways. Is that acceptable?”

The viscount nodded with a wry smile, seemingly understanding the reason.

Since I don’t need much practice in magical attacks, and training for magical exhaustion can be done anywhere, there’s no problem. Secretly, my spatial storage can now accommodate a sphere of 3 to 4 meters. I think it will eventually reach a size of 4x4x4 meters.

With two additional Magic Pouches, I only store perishable food, dishes, and cash, along with the clothes around me.

Teleportation magic now allows five jumps of 400 meters each. Anything beyond that is impossible. I tried at 410 meters, and the magic didn’t activate, confirming my hypothesis.

At 200 meters, I could jump ten times, at 60 meters, 33 times, so the maximum distance aside, the number of jumps depends on the amount of magical power.

For defensive purposes, I have 55 Stone Lances, 120 Stone Arrows, and 60 shots with the Small Shotgun and 45 shots with the Medium Shotgun, which should provide some protection.

I’m not eager to try the Stone Javelin, but I’d like to experiment if my magical power increases.

At the end of January, Hyalda and Fien came to the hotel, seeking advice. It turned out to be about the clothes for the magic festival.

Women wear something like loose riding clothes, but they wanted something more comfortable for movement. I suggested a slight modification to the clothes I planned to make.

I extended the sleeves of the kimono, made them adjustable by tightening the cuffs, and lengthened the hem. The pants are loose but can be tightened around the ankles, and they can also be tightened over boots.

For women, I increased the number of strings to prevent the chest area from expanding, and with the hem about 10 to 15 centimeters above the knee, it should work well.

Fien liked the design, as it hides the arms and legs, revealing no skin, and also conceals the body shape. I decided to make it.

As I wanted durable material with magical enchantment suitable for adventurers, I headed to the Commercial Guild to get a recommendation.

Several counters were occupied with customers, leaving only one available. The person there seemed disinterested, sharpening their nails with their back turned to the entrance.

Reluctantly, I approached and spoke up.

“Oh, it’s you again, the kid. What are you doing in our…”

Glancing at Hyalda and Fien behind me, the employee froze.

“Is there something you need from them, sir, madam Hyalda and Fien?”

I felt like I was being shooed away like one would dismiss a stray dog.

“He is our acquaintance, but do you always treat customers like that?”

He straightened up but mumbled something incomprehensible. The gentleman behind the impressive desk noticed Hyalda and Fien, rushing over.

He glanced at me, then without saying anything, bowed deeply in front of Hyalda, inquiring about their business.

“We want to know where we can buy the material for our clothes. Can you recommend a place?”

“Can’t you see, sir…”

“He’s fine. Please ask someone else.”

I could sense the bad side of my personality showing up. I dressed up nicely for a change, but my attitude was still arrogant.

Someone who noticed this conveyed something to the gentleman, who then asked me about my business.

“I want to make clothes like those worn by adventurers. I need sturdy fabric with the ability to enchant magic, enough for five or six people. Can you introduce me to a place that sells them?”

“Could you come to the negotiation table in the back? I’ll call someone knowledgeable. Please wait a moment.”

Very accommodating. Quite different from someone else. I went to the back and sat on a luxurious sofa, where fragrant tea was promptly brought in.

It’s amazing how my treatment improves when I’m with nobility. Ironically, I thought, flipping through a thick fabric sample book.

“We make your requested items from the special silk of spiders found in the remote areas. We need to check the stock. How much do you need?”

“For her, Fien, at least three sets, and if there’s extra, about three sets for me. Make them loose-fitting, with longer hems on the jackets. Since they’re for adventurers, we’ll need a bit more fabric.”

The top-grade ones would be reserved for Fien, while for me, a somewhat lower quality was suggested since there was enough stock. So, I ordered fabric for three sets of work clothes, three sets of adventurer clothes, and four sets of the clothes I was currently wearing.

The fabric would be delivered to the exclusive tailor of the Hamawarle family. The viscount insisted on paying for everything, and though I tried to contribute, I was refused, so I decided to accept the favor.

With that settled, I went to the tailor, explained the design of the clothes, and had my measurements taken. Since the previous measurements were still good, I left the rest to them.

However, for my clothes, I requested discreet decorations, similar to those of a moderately wealthy merchant’s son.

“Kaito, those clothes suit you.”

“These are for common kids. It’s easier if it looks like I’m trying too hard. With these clothes, I’d stand out too much if I wandered around alone.”

In February, preparations for the journey to the capital, Helisen, began, and we set out on February 10th.

Although it takes about 20 days to reach Helisen, once we arrive at the capital, we need to report to the royal castle. Due to noble interactions, we’re likely to spend about a month there unnecessarily.

The magic festival is scheduled to start around April 10th, and we’re expected to return to Egdora by the end of June, leaving me a bit dismayed.

The finished clothes turned out satisfying. The adventurer clothes were dyed in a subdued khaki color and a slightly lighter khaki color. One set intentionally had dyed spots, creating a camouflage pattern. With a detachable hood, if I wear it and go to grassy plains or forests, I should blend into the scenery.

In the city, I could confidently wear the slightly soiled adventurer outfit, easily blending into the lower districts and even going to the market without worry.

Continuation of Chapter 16:

The crucial magical enhancements include magical defense, anti-blade and impact defense, and an outdoor temperature adjustment feature for temperature regulation. Since these clothes are worn in all seasons, comfort is necessary.

These modifications serve the purpose of preventing unforeseen accidents during the magic tournament in which Fien is participating.

For everyday wear and adventurer’s work clothes, I’ve attached a Magic Pouch in an inconspicuous place, using the 8th-class Magic Pouch commonly used for everyday wear.

To avoid suspicion, I’ve cleverly concealed a Magic Pouch with dummy items such as well-worn, practical longswords and knives, along with clothes I used to wear. The Magic Pouches of Class 12 and Class 10 are tucked away in storage, so they should remain unnoticed unless declared.

Even Hyalda expressed a desire for work clothes, attaching a Magic Pouch in the same manner. Fien ties the hems over her boots, and she favors the work clothes that have slits on the sides, allowing for easy movement. She wears them regularly for magical practice.

When I mentioned the purpose and requested the purchase of Magic Pouches from the viscount, he generously gave them to me for free. He mentioned that he earned quite a bit through Hoehen’s connections and might find them useful in the future. Through Hoehen, he informed lords of other territories about criminal activities related to affiliated trading companies, contributing to their dissolution. The lords who received the information were apparently quite grateful, and the viscount chuckled, saying his face had gained quite a reputation. Nobles can be quite frightening.

My favorite is a slightly larger-sized wooden box, like a container, with two bunk beds, a four-seater table and chairs, a simple cooking area, and a toilet and shower room at the back—a camp house tucked away in my Magic Pouch. It can accommodate up to four people for sleeping. Of course, the exterior is crafted with earth magic to resemble a rock, and I’ve even added an observation platform on top.

Hyalda and Fien were amazed when they saw it, but they were also impressed with the convenience of being able to pop it out whenever and wherever they wanted to sleep and rest.

Even during dangerous times, being able to deploy it instantly for a makeshift fortress comes in handy.

On the early morning of February 10th, we departed from Egdora towards the royal capital, Helisen.

A total of six personal attendants and 40 guards, consisting of 20 knights and 20 adventurer guards, accompanied me. The convoy of two carriages and 40 mounted troops left the town quietly, bidding farewell to the knights and security teams who saw us off.

Despite being part of the escort, I was placed in the same carriage as the viscount’s party, dressed in my slightly soiled camouflage-patterned adventurer style.

Adventurers who knew my face grinned knowingly, while those unfamiliar with me looked at me with curious expressions, avoiding me as they passed by.

I couldn’t help but think that the maids’ carriage would have been better.
