The Adventurer Who Lacks Magic Power

Chapter 2 - With a Pop

I woke up with aches all over my body.

Outside, it was getting light, indicating that dawn was approaching.

I carved a door-shaped opening in the dome’s wall, inserted a pin on one side, and crafted it to open. It was a challenging task.

I nibbled on the remaining hard bread, observing the surroundings through a peephole to ensure safety.

Even with my knowledge from light novels, it didn’t guarantee my safety, so I had to be cautious. The chilled meat was tough, making my jaw ache.

According to my knowledge from light novels, spatial storage had a time-stop function, and if accumulated, it could solve my food problems. So, I had to make use of it.

But I needed to confirm it. After today’s teleportation magic experiment, I’d assess the spatial storage ability.

There’s a saying in China: “Know the enemy and know yourself, and you can fight a hundred battles without danger.”

Well, something like that, I remember. Also, “No improvement, no progress,” or something similar.

No, that’s not it. I feel like I’m heading in a strange direction. It’s an uncomfortable phrase.

By the way, I get tired and sleepy easily after using magic a bit.

If I’m not careful and collapse from magic exhaustion, I’ll end up in the afterlife for sure. I need to be careful.

If I get tired, I should meditate immediately…???

No, I can’t do that; I don’t want to die. I’ll take a short break and cool my head for a while.

The sun was rising, so I started by cutting grass to create a soft bedding.

This place didn’t have much grass growing, so adventurers didn’t come here for herb gathering. Jackpot.

It’s Wind Chime Grass, about 25 centimeters tall, with straight stems bearing 4-5 bell-shaped, pale purple flowers.

Moreover, they grow in clusters. Normally, having 2-3 flowers blooming would be considered lucky, but these were hiding among sparse grasses like treasures.

I cut one, but I mustn’t touch the underground stem. If I want to collect them next year, I must cut them cleanly, as I’ve been told.

With just one, I earned five copper coins. Hahaha, a strange laugh slipped out, making even me embarrassed.

For now, the bed was done. Inside the dome, I built a frame with earth magic, 180 centimeters tall and 100 centimeters wide. I piled cut grass on it.

From tonight, I’d be in heaven with this soft grass bed.

I sealed the door of the dome and headed to the town. Along the way, I casually searched for herbs and reached the town before dusk.

I went straight to the guild, and the herb-buying lady handed over the collected herbs.

“Oh, you have three Wind Chime Grass. Kaito, you’re lucky today. With the others, it’s 16,200 Dara.”

“Thank you, Mrs. Fuyusa. Can I get it in copper coins?”

“Sure, 16 copper coins and 2 iron coins. Do your best!”

“Thanks. See you later.”

Tomorrow, I should go somewhere else; otherwise, they might discover the Wind Chime Grass habitat.

I’ve collected more than 50 and stored them in spatial storage, so I won’t have to worry about earning money for a while. But I have to release them little by little.

Adventurers don’t tell others about their hunting grounds, so I won’t reveal mine either.

Before the sun set, I went to the market and bought two cups of salt for 4,000 Dara, four copper coins. It’s expensive, but it’s transported from a distant sea by carriage, so there’s no help for it.

Ten packs of solid soup base cost 3,000 Dara. It’s a substance like hardened miso. You dissolve it in a cup of hot water or water, and it tastes like a thin soup with a hint of salt but with no ingredients.

I bought 5 loaves of bread for 1,000 Dara, and 6 sandwiches with various fillings for 3,000 Dara, spending a total of 11,000 Dara.

I put the sandwiches in the herb bag and placed it on my back. If Dad were around, I planned to store dishes, pots, pans, futons, and clothes in spatial storage.

Since he was passed out drunk, I went to the back room, took out one sandwich from the herb bag, and stored the rest inside the bag in spatial storage. The things I needed for tomorrow morning were bedding and clothes. I stored all the clothes except what I was wearing.

As for the pots and pans, Dad didn’t cook, so I only planned to take what I could use.

After finishing my meal, I quickly went to sleep to prepare for tomorrow.

In the middle of the night, Dad started rummaging around in his bed and began snoring. I quietly got up, stored the pots, pans, knives, and dishes in spatial storage, and lay down until morning.

When it was time to go help at the market, I woke up, stored the futon and blankets in spatial storage, and told Dad that I wouldn’t be back for a while before leaving the house.

After finishing the usual tasks at two places, I spent the 1,000 Dara I earned and the remaining 5,200 Dara from yesterday to buy skewered meat and freshly steamed sweet potatoes with salted boiled beans.

I put them in the herb bag, tied it to my back, and left the town.

I had enough food for a while, and there was no need to return to the town forcibly, so I decided to go even further than yesterday.

I came to a place with low grass and sparsely growing trees with good visibility, so I decided this would be my camping spot (laughs), just kidding.

It was my first time here, but I thought it was a good place since I could easily tell if any beasts approached due to the good visibility.

But I was too carefree. I didn’t consider that they could see me well too. When I moved to a slightly elevated place, I built a dome big enough for just me to sit in and prepared for a siege.

I made surveillance holes in all directions and strengthened the dome with the remaining magic power.

I used magic power to the extent that I wouldn’t lose consciousness and observed the approaching beasts through the peephole.

It’s a pack of seven wolves. They sniffed the ground since my figure disappeared and roamed around the dome.

Scary! Is this the presence of wild animals? My spine shudders, and my knees tremble involuntarily.

Since I had no means to fight, I poured the remaining magic power into the dome, strengthened it, and left the rest to fate, resolved to rest.

***********************************************************************

It was cramped, and my body ached when I woke up.

I’m alive, so the dome must have held up. Or maybe they lost interest in me; I didn’t really care.

I vaguely thought so, but the sensation of my back shivering was strong.

When I observed the surroundings through the peephole, the wolves were relaxing near the dome.

I thought I was done for, but this is a safe zone. I’m inside the dome, so for now, my life isn’t in danger.

It’s cramped and my body hurts, so I expanded the dome and made it longer slowly to be able to lie down comfortably. To ensure safety even if the ground is dug up, I used all the remaining magic power to strengthen the walls and floor, entering the second patankyu time.

The second time I woke up, it was pitch dark. I turned on a light bright enough to see my fingertips and got up.

The atmosphere remained the same, and I knew wolves were around the dome. I couldn’t see anything through the peephole in the darkness.

If there’s no immediate danger, I need to eat something. I took out a sandwich from the herb bag, which was stored in spatial storage, and started munching.

I thought about what to do, but I easily collapse from using magic. I don’t have enough lives, no matter how many I have in stock.

I woke up, and there’s no guarantee I’ll be reincarnated somewhere safe. I definitely don’t want to be killed and eaten by animals after going through so much pain!

Thinking hard, I remembered from light novels that earth magic users fight animals by creating pitfalls. What should I do? First, I tried using earth magic without touching the ground to see if it worked. I focused on the ground on the opposite side of the dome’s edge and imagined a hole opening up while flowing magic power.

Again, I felt my consciousness slipping away. ???

When I woke up, I saw the hole I had created since I opened my eyes. I realized I had opened the hole to trap the wolves’ legs. I should have thought about the depth since I used all my magic power. I’m an idiot; if I thought about the diameter, I should have considered the depth too.

I covered the deep hole and imagined a hole with a diameter of 30 centimeters and a depth of 1 meter next to it. I opened it with a pop! … I did it!

I opened the hole with a pop and closed it tightly when the leg fell in. Pop and close.

I lost consciousness three times, so it was already bright outside.

Hmm… no presence. I looked outside, and there were no wolves around. Pop and close, what would happen?

But if pop and close worked, it shouldn’t use much magic power, so I guess it’s fine. But if pop and close work, I also need an attack magic, right?

Speaking of earth magic users, there’s Stone Bullet, but beasts can’t be defeated with pebbles. I want to make it look cool like Stone Javelin, but if I shoot once and run out of magic power, it’s not good.

Stone Lance would also consume a lot of magic power, so I should go lower, like Stone Arrows the size of arrows.

How about a length of 40 centimeters and a thickness of 3 centimeters? Well, I’m just deciding because I’m scared to go outside for practice.

I’ll widen the hole a bit, observe the surroundings, confirm safety, and then make a door in the dome and cautiously step outside.

Safety confirmed! I’ll set up targets at 10 meters, 15 meters, and 20 meters, gradually increasing the distance. Then I’ll quickly return to the dome and latch the door from the inside.

I didn’t use even half of my magic power by instinct. I might be able to practice Stone Arrows a bit.

I immediately tried making Stone Arrows. A length of 40 centimeters and a thickness of 3 centimeters, sharpen both ends.

Make them quickly and shoot quickly.

First, I diligently practiced making arrows, waiting for my magic power to recover, and repeated the process of arrow making until the day ended.
