Chapter 24: Losing a Two Star Beast Tamer
With the death of the beast, it was clear that the owner of the beast was definitely not going to be a beast tamer anymore. It was not that easy to be able to heal from a backlash of losing one's own monster.
As for his strength, even though he was going to be stronger than ordinary people, he was going to be weaker as compared to those beast tamers of the same rank, who had their own monsters. A beast tamer without his beast was no different from a dog without teeth.
The pain of losing a beast tamer was not something that was experienced only by the beast tamer who had lost his beast, but instead, even the city Lord and the others that really cared about the city felt it.
It was just that they understood that this was just the beginning. As long as the situation continued the way it was, it was clear that many more people were going to lose their beasts, and they would no longer be beast tamers.
That was one of the main reasons why a monster tide was so feared. After all, losing beast tamers was something that small cities could not afford.
The fight on the other hand progressed, with the monsters attacking the city. But of course, since they were being blocked by several beasts, they attacked them instead.
With the death of the first beast, the pressure on the other beasts increased. And so, they began receiving injuries one after the other, and a little while later, another beast fell.
That was something that led to the owner of the beast to experience a backlash. Even though he took several pills in order to heal up, it was impossible to use pills in order to deal with the backlash that was caused by losing a beast.
The moment that he lost his beast, he retreated. He understood that he was no longer going to be useful in the battle, and it was better for him to go back into the city and nurse his wounds.
It was just that he understood that this condition was not going to last for long, as he might end up dying in just a matter of a few minutes, and at most an hour. With the current number of monsters that were attacking the city, it was clear that the defenses of the city were going to be breached in just a little while.
William and the other beast tamers on top of the wall could not help but turns up. And it was at this point that Patrick spoke up.
"It seems that we will have to take action in advance. All the two star beast tamers should take action, to try as much as possible to minimize the losses that we are going to suffer." Patrick instructed.
Everyone was suddenly shocked by his decision. They understood that currently, the monsters that they were facing were just ordinary one star rank monsters. And behind them, there was quite a huge number of two star monsters that had yet to take action.
And even behind the two star monsters, there were the three star rank monsters. And the thing that none of them really hoped for was if there was another monster that was of a higher rank as compared to the 3 star rank monsters.
William and the other two star beast tamers understood that if they attacked, that was something that was going to immediately attract the attention of the two star rank monsters.
It would be extremely difficult for them to be able to deal with the two-star rank monsters, especially if there was quite a huge number of one star rank monsters.
A single attack from the one star monsters was obviously not enough to be able to deal much damage to them. But considering that there was such a huge number of one star rank monsters, the damage that they could deal was obviously high.
But looking at the current situation, it did not seem like they had any other choice. So, William and the others immediately summoned their beasts, before the beasts jumped down.
The beasts that were initially below, being overwhelmed by the monsters, suddenly felt relieved. The pressure that they had been experiencing retreated like a tide, as the attacks from the two star beasts easily wiped out a large number of one star monsters.
The beast tamers on top of the wall were also relieved. But they understood that this situation was not going to last for long, considering that the two star monsters were going to attack if the one star monsters could not create much of an impact.
So, they decided to take this chance to recover. Several medicinal fruits and other treasures were given to the beasts that had already retreated back to the wall, for them to recover the energy that they had already lost.
And after recovering for a while, they jumped down the wall, and continued fighting. As for the two star beasts, they charged deep into the crowd, targeting the two star monsters.
And in just a little while, the two sides engaged in battle. Attacks of various degrees flew everywhere, something that made the one star monsters and beasts to instinctively avoid the battlefield that involved the two star monsters and beasts.
Samuel was observing everything on top of the wall, and could barely hold back. It was true that he did not really have much feelings for the beast tamers that had lost their beasts, which meant that this was not the reason why he was feeling a little restless.
Instead, it was simply because he felt that with the large number of monsters that were being killed down there, it could be said that it was a waste of resources.
In a situation like this, where everyone would get what they had killed, it was clear that he would not be able to take the resources that others would have gained after the battle ended.
It was just that he decided to hold back a little. He understood that there was no need for him to attract so much attention with the low-level monsters, when he could simply deal with the high level monsters.
At this moment, only Patrick had not taken action. But William and the others had already done so, and they were already finding it difficult to be able to deal with the monsters that exceeded them in terms of numbers.
Occasionally, some of the two star beast tamers would look at Patrick, hoping that he would take action. It was clear that they were afraid of losing their own beasts, but they could not be blamed.
It was not that easy for them to be able to reach the two star rank, and more than that, the moment that they lost their beasts, they would not be able to continue being beast tamers.
Patrick on the other hand simply ignored the gazes that he was receiving. Of course, he understood the implication of those gazes, but he was not willing to take action.
It might be true that If he took action, he could reduce or even prevent some of the losses from happening, but with the current situation, it was obviously going to worsen the situation.
With him taking action, it was clear that the three star monsters would also take action. He was alone, but for the monsters, there were 23 of them. It would be better if he saved as much energy as possible in order to face them later on.
In any case, even if he saved these people right now, the moment that the three star monsters would take action, they would be completely useless in the fight. Additionally, they would end up being killed if even he himself could not handle the monsters.
About 10 minutes later, another beast was killed in the battlefield. But this time, it was not a one star beast, but instead, it was a two-star beast.
This was something that shocked all the people on top of the wall that were observing the battlefield. Even though several monster tides had already occurred, this was going to be the first time in the history of this city that are two star beast was going to die.
Patrick took a deep breath as he looked at the beast tamer who had suffered the backlash of losing his beast. Even though the beast tamer was only at the initial stage of the two star rank, but he was very valuable to the city.
At this point, Patrick decided to take action. He thought, there was no need for him to continue wasting time. It was not as if they were going to receive any reinforcements anytime soon.
He was simply delaying the inevitable by not taking action. Even if he decided not to take action right now, it was not as if those 3 star monsters were not going to do it. Eventually, they would take action, which is something that would lead to the destruction of the city.
But just as Patrick was about to summon his own beast in order to engage into the battle, something that was surprising, but at the same time, hopeful happened.
Several lightning strikes fell from the sky, targeting the area where the two star beasts were being besieged. This was not something that happened on just one side of the city, but instead, it happened there, before happening to the other parts as well.
