Chapter 26: An Anomaly
The leopard that was facing the attacks of the monsters surrounding it had no other choice but to be extremely passive. If it tried to take the chance to attack, it was clear that after it finished attacking, it would be immediately overwhelmed by attacks from the other monsters.
So, the leopard tried as much as possible to dodge the attacks, while at the same time, making sure that the attention of all the monsters was on itself. After all, if one or two three star rank monsters left the battle, and headed towards the city, there was no one to protect it.
It would be chaotic, and the number of deaths was going to increase. And this time, it would not just be the beasts owned by the beast tamers, but instead, several people within the city would definitely end up dying.
Despite the injuries that it had suffered after the attack from the bull, it was still capable of holding on. But from the speed that it was moving, it was clear that the injuries had dealt quite a blow to the leopard, reducing its maximum speed.
Patrick and the others on top of the wall could not help but feel that if the eagle did not come back soon, then the leopard was definitely going to fall.
It was capable of dodging, but obviously not capable of dodging all the attacks. It was already suffering several injuries after an entire minute, and as time went on, the injuries kept on piling.
The movements of the leopard that were previously nimble began getting sluggish. It was slow, but it was something that was noticeable to everyone that was on top of the wall.
"Damn it! Where the heck is the beast tamer that owns that eagle? What are they doing? It would have been better if they would have dealt with the situation here first, before moving to the other sides of the city. The situation here is more critical than anywhere else!" One of the two star beast tamers could not help but speak out loud.
But the moment that he said those words, he felt gazes of the people around him on him. At this point, all of them were thinking, yes, that is what you are supposed to be thinking, but do you have to say it out loud?
After all, if he said those words loud, and the beast tamer who had come to assist heard them, they might decide not to lend them any help anymore.
"Focus on the situation. Try as much as possible to eliminate the remaining low level monsters, so that we can be prepared to deal with the high level monsters." Patrick instructed.
The beast tamers immediately took action, communicating with their own beasts, informing them to try as much as possible to eliminate the one star and two star monsters.
On the battlefield that involved the three star monsters and Patrick's leopard, the situation had already turned grim. The leopard had already suffered grievous injuries, and it was clear that if it continued fighting, it was going to die in less than 1 minute.
Patrick of course understood this, but no matter how he wanted to ask the leopard to retreat, he understood that he could not. If the leopard retreated, then what was he supposed to do?
The monsters would immediately charge into the city, slaughtering everyone within it. And as a city Lord, that was something that he did not want to see.
So, he had no other choice but to hope that something magical was going to happen before he lost his leopard. And even if he lost the leopard, it would be good as long as the city was safe.
And something magical happened, just as the leopard was trying as much as possible to hang on. Several bolts of lightning descended from the sky, descending on the bodies of the 20 monsters.
Each lightning bolt was as thick as an adult's arm, and the moment that they came into contact with the monsters, each monster suddenly roared in pain, as it was enveloped by a thick lightning net.
Additionally, the power of the bolts that had descended from the sky was clear for everyone to see, considering that the moment that the bolts came into contact with the monsters, the monsters were immediately burnt.
Even though they were not reduced to ashes, they all collapsed onto the ground, and even from a distance, with their improved vision, the beast tamers could all see that the bones had been exposed after the skin and flesh was burnt.
Hiss!
All of them could not help but take deep breaths as they looked at the situation on the battlefield. Currently, other than the leopard that belonged to the city Lord, all the other monsters had already collapsed onto the ground.
The bodies of the three star monsters were the only ones that were still visible outside the city, but for those lower level monsters, they had all been reduced to ashes.
All the beast tamers simultaneously looked at the eagle in the sky, wondering just what kind of power it possessed.
And while those questions emerged within their minds, something even more shocking happened. They saw that there was a golden light that suddenly erupted from the eagle.
Then in the next moment, the golden light enveloped the bodies of the three star monsters, before it retreated back into the eagle.
Patrick and the others were not sure about what had happened, but they did not comment on the situation. Instead, they felt relieved that the monsters had been dealt with. Still, they did not lower their guard.
They understood that other than the 20 monsters that the eagle had killed, and one that had been killed by the leopard, there were still other two monsters that had previously chased after the eagle.
But more than that, they believed that there was definitely a higher level monster behind this. It was impossible for such a large number of three star monsters to come attacking a city, if there was no other high level monster that was commanding them.
As for the eagle in the air, after the golden light retreated back into its body, it suddenly looked into the distance. And upon noticing this, Patrick and the others followed suit, looking into the direction that the eagle was looking at.
It was then that they saw something that made all of them take deep breaths. They saw that there was a giant monster that was approaching.
This monster was a lion. It stood at a height of 4 meters, making it an extreme giant. And, as it approached, it did not seem to really care that much about the deaths of the other monsters.
And as it got closer, William and the others were able to see something that was different about this monster. That was the fact that its eyes were not as red as that of the monsters that had been eliminated.
Instead, they were clear, just like how an ordinary monster was supposed to be. Its eyes possessed a golden glint of monstrosity within them.
The Lion then stopped, before gazing at the eagle that was still hovering in the air. It let out a roar, and at the same time, a ball of flames began condensing within its mouth.
The eagle obviously understood that the lion was about to attack. But, it was not going to give the lie on the chance to attack, and so, using its superior speed, it immediately dived downwards.
At the same time as it was diving towards the ground, several bolts of lightning began descending from the sky, dropping upon the lion. And this time, it was very clear that those bolts of lightning were stronger than those that had been used to wipe out the three-star monsters.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Several explosions resounded, as the bolts of lightning landed on the lion. It seemed that the attack of the eagle had succeeded, leading the lion to stop its attack.
So, instead of shooting out a ball of flames, the lion instead started preparing to deal with the eagle, while withstanding the bolts of lightning.
But this was something that was completely out of the ordinary. It was clear to everyone that the lion had already suffered quite some damage from the bolts of lightning from the eagle, but it did not show any reaction at all.
It was as if the lion was completely numb to pain, and no matter how much it was attacked, it could not feel anything at all. And another thing that they noticed was the fact that even though wounds had already emerged all over the body of the lion, there was no blood at all.
While so many questions erupted in the minds of Patrick and the others, the two collided with each other.
The lion immediately launched itself towards the eagle, wanting to use its powerful jaws in order to snap the eagle into two pieces. But the eagle was fast enough, being able to dodge the attack, while at the same time, using its talons that glinted with sharpness to strike at the lion's head.
