Chapter 14: Chapter 14 - Primal
As Genkei is running towards Akio, he notices his energy stop becoming smaller and smaller. Instead.. the reverse is happening. Immediately, Genkei knows what's happening, but he fears the worst.
Meanwhile, Akio has lost his consciousness and his instinct has taken hold of him once again. Suddenly, flames extrude from his mouth, as his injures are covered in the very same flames. As they dissipate, it's shown that they've healed.
The undead soldier lunges at him, but immediately, Akio appears before him. With one punch to the chest, the soldier is flung meters back.
Akio charges up one fireball in his right hand, as finally, the scouts and Genkei reach him, just in time to witness power like they had never seen before. Instead of a simple fireball, it expands into a giant beam of flames, incinerating everything in its path, including the soldier.
In that moment, no words were uttered. Instead, the only sound came from the flames scorching anything and everything they met. As the pillar disintegrated slowly, Akio turned to look at Genkei specifically.
The primal General growls, as Genkei powers up, entering his own superpowered state.
- "You three.. stay back."
- "What are you talking about..?"
- "You'll die if you don't!"
Genkei screams at the scouts to get back, and with that very scream, they did.. because they knew. They knew what fate would await them were they to not listen to Genkei's words, because he himself was unsure of what happens now.
Akio growls at Genkei, who prepares himself for an attack. Instead, Akio simply runs towards him, far slower than usual. Genkei puts his guard down, only to see that Akio's sclerae are turning white and his muscles are retracting.
Now, Akio has truly expended all his energy. His subconscious still thinks that he's on the brink of death and is trying to keep him alive no matter what. Seeing this horrid state, Genkei returns to normal, just barely dodging Akio's attacks delibaretly.
After a few seconds of this, Genkei decides to put an end to this. With a quick cut to the wrist, Akio is knocked unconscious. Even if he was still hanging on to live, to save those below him, he was still victim to the rules of the universe.
"Good job, Akio."
Leaving these three words with him, Genkei hands Akio over to the scouts.
"Get him back to the headquarters. He needs to rest. Also, take Achilles."
Genkei poitns to Achilles' unconscious body, which he had noticed after knocking Akio out, before heading back into the battle.
Meanwhile...
Aoi and Harumi are fighting soldiers together, and their synergy is impeccable. Using her water magic, Aoi cuts the soldiers, allowing Harumi to pin them down and use her earth magic to destroy their heads.
After a while, the two girls decide split up, seeing that there are only two soldiers left now. Aoi plants her right hand on the ground, causing water to extrude out of it, hitting the soldier omnidirectionally.
Through the water, Aoi jump kicks the soldier, before creating water ropes to hold onto the soldier's hands, headbutting him. Immediately after, Aoi throws the undead back into the ground, as she uses her magic to hold him down before placing her hands on his two sides.
Using her magic again, Aoi smashes her fists together, destroying the soldier's head. Meanwhile, Harumi is using her earth magic to attack the soldier omnidirectionally too, as she throws the soldier in front.
Harumi envelops her right hand with her earth magic, hardening it significantly, as she destroys the soldier's head in one hit. The two girls shoot each other a thumbs up, as Genkei faces three soldiers on his own.
Powering up, Genkei enters his superpowered state, using it to outmaneuver the soldiers. Using his magic also, he creates a tornado, putting them all in one spot, as he barrages them all. The speed, power and precision of Genkei's punches is enough to heavily injure the soldiers, as he lands the finishing blow all at once.
As Genkei finishes off his own wave of soldiers, Alexa and Jack group up with him, having already killed the undead that they faced. A few minutes later, Aoi and Harumi join the group too, and it looks like they're done.
The four Generals ask Genkei about Akio, since they had slightly sensed his presence while fighting.
"Akio's back at HQ."
- "What for? Did something happen to him?"
Jack's question makes Genkei nod positively.
- "Yeah. However..!"
Genkei's words alarm the others, since he really is trying to make this dramatic.
"He's just out of energy. I didn't take the time to question the other three scouts that were close to him, but I sent them back with Akio and Achilles."
A wave of relief washes over the Generals, who all prepare to go back to the headquarters, and a few hours pass.
Akio slowly opens his eyes, but this time in the couch of his office. Instantly recalling the situation he was in before he blacked out, he goes up to the mirror he has, trying to find any injures, only to find new scars.
- "What the hell happened..?"
Without missing a bit, Akio checks the time, before walking out of his office and heading down the other hall. Knocking on a door, Akio enters the room, seeing Alexa and Genkei who greet him warmly.
- "Up already?"
Genkei gets up, hitting Akio on the back.. roughly. Alexa chuckles, but Akio misses no beat.
- "Ow.. yeah. What happened with those undead? Last thing I remember is almost dying to one."
- "They're gone. By the way, you entered that crazy state again."
- "...Oh."
- "Your power was incredible though, I can't lie. You collapsed afterwards, though."
- "So what? Did I just kill the soldier..?"
- "You did! You simply expended all your energy on killing him is all."
- "I see... What about Achilles? Are you guys alright?"
- "Achilles is resting in the medical room, and as you can quite obviously see, we're fine too."
- "What about the others?"
- "They're all fine. Now then, how about your proposal? Starting a Council now would defeat the purpose, so out with it."
Alexa's words remind Akio of what he wanted to say, and of course, he does say it. He'll tell the others about it after.
- "Let's go out on patrols instead."
