Chapter 21: Pathfinder
With calmness present in his mind, Quagmire started to line up the piles of uniforms. Firstly, he wore boxer shorts, then the tee shirt, followed by the trousers while tucking in the shirt in the trousers. He wore socks, followed by boots, and next up, finally, the tunic, after which the leather belt. With that, he felt like a brand new person, as his old affiliation was now gone, and so he was finally free from the past. Sure, there might be a few fears and traumas, but he will just take it as a lesson for this life.
Right now, what he wants to do is to accomplish the request of the goddess, whom he does not even know the name of. After all, he owes her his current life, and he currently likes what he is doing. As to what would happen if he encountered the civilization of this world, he would let the future decide.
He would give his judgment based on his beliefs and principles; there might be some he would for the sake of benefit, but only if necessary. After all, a civilization is a civilized society; therefore, societies must be civilized right? Thinking otherwise brings sweat onto his back, as he remembers the current situation of this world.
Could you really expect civility in this world? It looks like the Emperor Of Man must show these races some manners. Nevertheless, he absolutely needs backing immediately, as if he encounters another civilization and gets into a fight, it would spell trouble for him, so with haste, he brought out his pistol and inserted it into his holster, packed up the support equipment, and brought out the bolt-action rifle.
He swung his rifle into his back with the support equipment brought out multiple ammunition, and placed it inside the ammunition pouches in the webbing storage.
Trying to get a feel of himself, he brought back into the inventory the rifle, as it would be too hard to get into firing position with a pistol, his current main firearm, as it has more ammunition in its magazines. He would just bring out the rifle when needed; it's also about the same speed if it's slung behind his back.
He wanted to look like a soldier, but it just did not feel comfortable; also, if he had to use the rifle, he might have to drop the rifle from his back. Moreover, it was too heavy; he had his support equipment in the back, which already weighed a few kilograms, and adding a few more might break his back.
With the necessary stuff in check and in good condition, he pulled up his spatial inventory. Unfortunately, he was in a bit of a bind; he could summon the necessary stuff now, but where would he get the resources to build it and manufacture goods and equipment?
There are no resource areas near here, as this was in the middle of the forest. Furthermore, resources are hidden deep into the ground, so if he placed his headquarters near here, his resource droids might travel far, and so he must place it near an area where there is an abundance of resources, including various kinds of ores and metals.
While thinking about what he needed to do and putting it on a checklist, his eyes darted around and arrived at a certain spot.
"Yes! That's it!" Quagmire said with extreme glee; he remembered that he has something called a pathfinder, which, when deployed, would find the best spot to build a starting base, a spot, or an area where there are plenty of bountiful resources.
Apparently, it sends some kind of waves deep into the ground and out in a radius of hundreds of kilometers. After this, it calculates the best spot where he could build his headquarters. Thus, with that in mind, he brought out the Pathfinder.
Upon deploying it, the Pathfinder looked like a droplet of water floating; its body was made of gold, its front was a screen, and a few lines of light were vibrating. When it moves, fire comes out of its behind, but surprisingly, it is not hot enough for him, but it definitely was fire. The fire was blue in color, and it did not leave a trail of smoke, which is very peculiar.
The Pathfinder stared at him, and a control window appeared on its top; there, he saw multiple options that he could do, but there, he found what he needed was to find a location with a plentiful amount of resources to start his very own civilization as The Emperor Of Man.
Upon selecting it, the Pathfinder changed position; it was now facing upwards with streaks of light at the top; as its body started to change, its once golden body now had divisions, as it turned into what seemed like the sails of a windmill, and started facing upwards.
Then suddenly, he felt another beat in his heart. It was a weird and surreal experience, but he could definitely see that the window was showing that it was now scanning the geography and trying to find the best spot for him to build the base. Anyhow, he waited until its completion, and when it showed him the chosen coordinates, he was baffled and shocked by what he saw.
"I have to choose?" Quagmire muttered under his breath.
It was because the Pathfinder found not one but dozens of spots; there were some that were near, and there were those that were thousands of kilometers apart. He stared in shock, but quickly regained his footing. He needs to decide carefully, as this was a starting base, so what resources he could get would go a long way.
Browsing through, there were those that were abundant in wood but lacked critical ores, some with abundant ores and metal but lacked the necessary wood. Sometimes, the distance between the two is hundreds of kilometers apart.
Thus, with a clear head and a decision to invest in the future. He chose a location that is a little over a hundred kilometers from his position. The area has plentiful ores and metals with rooms for expansion and an abundance of trees, which could be harvested and used the land for farming, and other districts such as residential.
It is going to take him a few days to get there, but it was an investment for the future, and so he accepted the location and the Pathfinder turned back to what it once was. He then chose to move forward, so he chose to have the Pathfinder to guide him there. In the future, this Pathfinder would be the literal powerhouse of the base after all.
