Chapter 17: Chapter 17: The Taste of Victory
Kilrey, furious and desperate, was scrambling to find a way out of this nightmare.
How had everything gone so wrong?
Reports had claimed that the humans were fighting desperately, that the coalition was on the verge of toppling the kingdom.
Yet here he was, stranded at sea, facing a grim reality.
Kilrey, an ambitious warrior, had dreamed of triumphantly marching through the human capital alongside Giyard, celebrated and lauded by the demon empire.
Now, a haunting question plagued him: Am I going to die here? At the hands of these mere humans? Me, the great Kilrey? No, I won't allow it!
He turned his bloodshot gaze toward his trembling subordinates, cowed by his murderous aura.
Clenching his fists, he roared:
— This isn't over! We'll land near those reefs and exterminate these humans!
His subordinates, emboldened by his words, shouted in unison.
But before Kilrey could finish his orders, another barrage of fiery spells struck the remaining ships.
In mere moments, they were engulfed in flames Kilrey disappeared without a trace.
On a hill overlooking the sea, Lord Robert lowered his spyglass and turned to Raelia.
— Princess, the last ship has been neutralized.
Raelia nodded, her sharp gaze fixed on the sinking wreckage.
— Yes, even from here, I can see the debris vanishing into the depths.
Standing beside her were Gilbert, her loyal friend, and Lord Robert.
Raelia stepped forward to address the gathered soldiers, her voice strong and clear:
— As the princess of this kingdom… no, as a citizen of this kingdom, I say this: today will be etched into our history books. It marks our relentless fight to preserve our independence.
She paused, her eyes scanning the crowd, then continued:
— We will honor our fallen comrades by declaring that they did not die in vain.
This day sends a clear message to the nations: the Kingdom of Ednia will never bow to those who seek to strip away its sovereignty.
Raising her sword to the sky, she proclaimed:
— Honor to our people! Honor to our comrades who shed their blood! Honor to our armies!
The soldiers responded with a thunderous cheer, the battlefield vibrating with their exultation.
Gilbert and Robert exchanged a proud smile, moved by their princess's inspiring words.
Not far away, Jonady leaned silently against a tree, observing the scene.
Raelia noticed him and approached. Gently taking his hand, she smiled reassuringly and said:— Let's return to the capital.
Jonady nodded, accepting her proposal.
Together, they began the journey home, leaving behind the remnants of a resounding victory.
