The Blade and The Beloved

Lara's eyes opened , she could hear a familiar voice beside her , they seem to be more than one person in the room with her.

She breathed her eyes finding the room unfamiliar , this wasn't her room or place.

"Your awake " a hand held hers . Her mother's face appeared infornt of her.

"Mom ..." She frowned.

"How do you feel ?" She asked .

Alara gulped , "where am I ?"

"The hospital sister " answered her younger sister who moved closer .

"Huh...hospital ?". She blinked .

"Your fiancé picked up your phone when mom called earlier . He told us your in the hospital " explained her sister.

Fiancé?...still lost in thought the door opened and Rae walked in.

He was holding two coffees and the doctor walked in beside him .

"Your back " her sister smiled taking the coffee from him.

"She is awake " her mother told him.

Their eyes had met the moment he had walked in . She remembered collapsing after finding him inside her home.

He rushed to her side taking her cold hands into his , gently bumping his forehead into hers as a smile crept to his lips.

"Your okay " he muttered.

She didn't move lost in trace of what was going on. So it wasn't her imagination ,it was really him.

The other three watched them in silence until he pulled away looking at the doctor.

"Did you find out what is wrong with her ?"he asked.

The doctor nodded.

"Congratulations, she is two weeks pregnant " he announced.

The room fell silent and Alara sat back waiting for there reactions.

Rae turned back to look at her.

"You are ?"calmly asking her.

Slowly nodding she confirmed ,"I found out earlier to...".

She didn't complete her words when he hugged her tightly in his arms not saying another word.

"Congratulations sister " she heard her sister say.

"We need to celebrate " her mother added.

Rae pulled away holding her hands again keeping eye contact with her.

The other three quietly slipped out leaving the the room to them .

"You don't look happy?"he asked noticing the tears formed in her eyes

"Why should I be , their lives are in danger because of it " she muttered.

He sighed .

"Will you marry me ?" He suddenly asked.

"Are you crazy , I just told you my family's lives are in danger cause of this pregnancy and your asking me to marry you " she yelled.

"It's the only way I can protect them . And also keep you safe and the baby " he explained.

She looked away a tear escaping her eyes.

"Am sorry I can't it will only make the situation worse. I betrayed them when I didn't kill you that night and now that am carrying your child what do you think they will do to me and my family ?" She cried.

"Nothing for I wont let them touch either you or them" he declared.

She knew he meant it and could do it but she was still afaird of the organisation. After years of being with them she knew exactly how dangerous and powerful they where.

Of all things she could have done this was the worse of them all. She had broken all the rules that governed them and was sure that after they found out about her , they would come for her and her family.

He could see the confusion and fear in her eyes . His hand raised her head by her chin facing him again.

"Trust me , I will do everything and I mean anything to protect you, our child and your family ". She cried listening to him , he pulled her into an embrace.

He had appeared in her life again with a different purpose but now that he was going to be a father ,everything had changed.

"I promise " he whispered to the her.

Alara was sent home soon after , Rae drove them back .

As his mother made something in the kitchen with her sister , Alara was in her room with Rae.

"Do you need anything ?" he asked .

Shaking her head she replied ,"No , am going to lay down ".

He sat down next to her ,quietly watching fall asleep.

When she was sound asleep he slipped out of the room and excused himself to make a call.

"Set up a meeting with the head of shadow organisation" he instructed.

"Right away sir " the other replied.

"And get me some guard at the home am staying right now " he added.

When Alara woke up she could hear giggles coming from the livngroom .

Rae was sitting next to her mother while they showed him her baby album.

"And here she wouldn't let go of her father's hand while swimming " her mother pointed out.

Rae chuckled.

"She was so small " he commented.

He must have felt her presence for suddenly turned around to see her standing there watching them.

"Your awake " he stood up walking to her.

"Mmm..":he took her hand and lead her back lettingher sit down.

Her mother stood up warming up the food for her.

"Where did Mia go?" She asked covering the album .

"She had class today evening so she left " said her mother.

He bent closer whispering ,"don't worry I have someone with her ,she's safe ".

She nodded.

When the food arrived he offered to feed her but she objected. So her mother did instead.

His eyes didnt leave her side like he was glued to her.

"Do you know who he is?" her mother asked .

Rae was in the kitchen busy washing the dishes after she was done eating.

"Mmm...and I know what your going to say" she said.

"Really ?"'

She fell silent letting her speak.

"Your father was like him too, and enemy of the organisation. We thought we could escape them after I got pregnant with you and we did for awhile . But they finally caught up and before I could tell him I was pregnant with your sister ,they killed him".

Alara sighed.

"Am sorry mother".

"Why are you sorry my dear. Am not scolding you at all". her eyes moved to the frame of the man in he kitchen .

"He loves you and that is all that matters " she said.

"Mother neither one of us fell for the other ...it was a one night stand " she cleared.

"Don't be so sure about that my dear". her mother smiled.

Rae walked back to them holding two plates of peeled apples. One he passed to her mother, then picked one and brought it to her mouth .

"Have some ,it's good for you " he smiled.

Alara took a bite of it as her eyes studied his face and the words her mother had said sounding in her head.

He loved her....impossible !.
