Chapter 2: A New Shuffle
Revenge, a simple word that carried anger, sadness, and guilt. Just when he thought he could finally make all the voices and weight on his shoulder disappear, just one single blink he found himself in a place which he was not a battlefield.
The ground wasn't filled with holes and bodies of his comrades, the air didn't make him want to throw up and his ears finally weren't bleeding from all the chaos.
Not a single muscle as he stood in that place while his eyes shot back and forth before he finally pulled out the blade from his waist. His breathing became slow and steady as he took one step at a time carefully before he leaped into the air towards the blur that was ready to pounce on him.
"Fuck!" Was the first word that came out of his mouth as growling and trashing animals bite him on the shoulder. Thankfully the protection pads he wore stopped his entire shoulder ripped out, and it didn't take low for the leopard to draw its final breath.
Soon as his shoulders relaxed and away from lifeless corpse pain began to assault him. Pain didn't just come from the shoulder that had a few teeth pierced into his muscle. Removing the teeth, and pads he carefully tore his shirt before he could finally see how deep he was injured.
"This isn't good." Panic began to stem and break through his calm and collected mind. After all he was just cannon fodder, with little to no experience.
"Am I hallucinating?" With panic blooming in him, making him ready to burst out was only stopped when he saw a floating screen that didn't disappear no matter how much he had waved or blinked. "I am going crazy, aren't i?"
Well talking to yourself doesn't help.
"Did I get Rob'ed?" No, he didn't get touched and money stolen. Instead he felt as if a random omnipotent being threw him a fantasy world with a cheat power. "No way. The stuff I read in middle school is actually not real, right?"
By the number of his age, there isn't a massive difference. He was only 17 afterall, but comparing a regular 17 year old who is self conscious to him that was deployed to the frontline and actually killed is stupidity.
"No way..." The reality of this aspect almost made his eyes sparkle and the wounds on his shoulder no longer had his attention. Not long before he was holding his partner, that kept him alive for this long; M4 Carbine, and walking through the blood-ridden grounds yet he forgot about and solely focused on the screen.
[Congratulations Ethan for being selected by *****. Oh I forgot you can't read that. Ahem. Right, where was it? Yes, you are now in a fictional world with powers. Have fun!]
Soon as his read skimmed through the words it disappeared leaving behind a petrified Ethan. All of a sudden pain began to course through his entire body before, but in a blink of an eye it disappeared as a card appeared on his hand.
"Lucius Z–" Before he could finish his word he felt a massive migraine before his vision turned dark and finally passed out.
The ground cracked as a massive amount of magic began to generate like a vortex. Soon the vortex of magic began to darken till it turned ominous black. The ground began to rot, nature itself began to take a step back, even the air began to avoid touching his body.
***
My name is Ethan Wright.
No. wait. Is it Lucius Zogratis?
Or is it Julius
Three sets of memories, though broken in pieces still was enough for him to realize just what kind of situation he found himself in.
"My grimoire." No matter how much i tried to summon it, even after spending so much time going back and forth with the memories to see if i am missing anything the grimoire could not be summoned.
'I am basically cut off from using 90% of my 'cheat' power I was given, huh.' A groan escaped from my mouth. The only reason I wasn't panicking is because I can still use my magic a bit less powerful.
Glancing at the torn clothes I am wearing, I closed my eyes before waving my hand over the chest. Soon a green magic circle appeared on my hand before restoring all my clothes into a perfect state.
'Time Magic is just OP in general.' Though I can't turn back time to the world, I could limit myself and focus on small objects. I can't turn an adult into a child but I can restore a half eaten apple to full.
"Now where exactly am i?" It hasn't been long since I have woken up what feels like a century long slumber. 'My face feels different.'
There wasn't a mirror nor a drop of water nearby to check the changes. Which brings the question how exactly did I even survive. "Am I even human?"
That was stupid question because I already knew the answer to that. I should've felt disgust at what I have turned into yet the only thing I am feeling is hunger?
"I am famished." I murmured but I am inside some kind of bunker made with stones. Not a hint of light yet my vision was perfect.
After poking around everywhere I finally found a weak spot. "I don't think my time magic would be of any help."
I am so pathetic that I can't even lift a stone off the ground. It is as if all the magic the souls i was merged had their memories manipulated.
'Did the strange power which brought me here do this?' Oh I have tried to summon the same status screen i saw before i inevitably went into a long slumber. Yet no matter what, I couldn't see it again, which made me think I wasn't given those broken systems.
I shook my head clearing the dark thought which began to cloud my mind. I knew to be grateful we got another chance to start over. 'So I am not complaining.'
Taking multiple deep breaths I began to focus on the only magic which could help my situation. 'Space magic.'
Beads of sweat began to drop, my brows frowned as I used all my focus to try to sense where my grimoire was and it didn't take long for a slight tear to form in front of me but the sudden feeling of achievement quickly went away as the magic disappeared from my loss of concentration.
Letting out a sigh I murmured to myself. "Oh boy. This is going to take a while."
