Chapter 4 - Mercenary Reincarnation
The end of my part-time job.
The pain from the constant beatings, the constant scolding, and working like a slave had left me weak in body and mind.
But I have saved up nearly one million yen in wages after working myself to death for a year. This should be enough to pay my sister’s tuition!
As I was walking down the street after the sun had completely set, I saw my younger sister, Ami, walking with her classmates.
They must have finished their cram school now.
Unlike me, Ami is smart and studying hard to go to college.
Then Ami’s friend, whom I had met only once at home, noticed me.
“Oh, isn’t that Ami’s brother?”
When Ami was told this, her eyes met mine as she was toddling along, and she quickly turned away.
“He’s not my brother. Not that guy.”
“Huh, but—”
“Just forget it! We’re going to Rina’s house to study a bit more before heading home.”
Ami is always like this.
I guess she doesn’t want people to think that a pathetic guy like me is her brother.
But that’s okay.
She’s my adorable little sister in my eyes.
Besides, if I pay Ami’s tuition, she might start to see me as a big brother.
With such hope in my heart, I walked the usual way home.
As I turned the corner of the street, I suddenly felt a hand grab my shoulder.
“Hey, Fushimi. What a coincidence to run into you here.”
“…Huh?”
When I turned around, Dojima was standing there with several of his underlings, waiting for me.
A sense of dread washed over me, making the blood drain from my body.
“… By the way, I need something right now. It would be a big help if you could spare me some money—say, around a million yen.”
“…Huh… um…”
“We’re friends, so you wouldn’t mind helping out, right?”
I was trapped.
“Dojima had no intention of giving me money from the beginning.”
The tuition money I had saved up by working my hardest for a year was now gone, used for Dojima’s leisure.
The money I saved for my sister’s tuition after working hard for a year disappeared into Dojima’s play money.
“Alright, say cheese!”
“Hahaha! You’ve got a good shot!”
Knowing that resisting would only cause more wounds, I did as I was told, and they put liquor and cigarettes in my hands and took pictures of me.
They also made me drink some alcohol.
I guess they want more material to blackmail me.
Now I have lost everything.
All that was left was to live as Dojima’s slave, being exploited.
Released, I go home and enter my room in a daze.
I’m so tired. I just want everything to be easier.
That was the only thing that came to my exhausted mind.
What I saw in my eyes was a LAN cable connected to the computer in my room.
Even this thin, surely it’s enough to tighten up my slender neck.
Such thoughts were put into action as my mind wandered.
I unplugged the LAN cable from the computer, stood up on the chair, and fastened it to the ceiling.
Up until now, there have been times when I have considered ending my life.
However, the face of my mother, who loved me, would flash in my mind, preventing me from acting on those thoughts.
But now, under the influence of alcohol, I had forgotten all about that.
I created a loop with the LAN cable hanging from the ceiling and placed it around my neck.
How did it come to this?
It must be because I’m weak.
“Because I was weak, my life ended up being dominated by the strong.”
In the next life, I want to be a stronger being, invincible, like a dragon.
Kicking the chair away, the thin cable cut into my neck.
At that moment, Fushimi’s body lost consciousness.
The spirit of Ryuji Miyamoto, the mercenary known as the ‘Invincible Dragon,’ who had just lost his purpose, took over.
