The Cold and Ruthless Supporting Male Lead

Chapter 27 - The Backup Boyfriend of the Girl Next Door (7)

The expressions of the two men seemed off. Although they really liked Lan Weicai, they certainly didn’t want to drag anyone else into this situation.

Seeing their faces change, Lan Weicai grew even more anxious and gave them a pleading look. “Brother Haiku…”

Among the men present, she trusted Li Haiku the most. They had grown up together, and she knew he was someone with a sense of responsibility.

Recently, however, Hai Ku’s attitude toward her had been somewhat cold. Lan Weicai guessed that it might be because of her desire to start a relationship, and that Hai Ku had become disappointed in her.

Carefully moving closer to Hai Ku, Lan Weicai’s voice became tiny, “Brother Haiku, I need to ask you something. Please…”

Just by standing next to her, Hai Ku already felt the heated gazes of the other two men. He suddenly understood that the rumors about high school students getting into fights because of relationships weren’t all false.

“Hmm,” With a thought in mind, Hai Ku nodded. “I’ll take her home. You two still need to go to the movies tomorrow, right? It’s probably better to tidy up a bit.”

Even though they were only high school students, their pride was still immense. Lan Weicai had already done this much, and despite their reluctance, the two men obediently left.

It hadn’t been long after the evening study session ended when they walked along a street lined with high school students. The dim streetlights made everyone’s footsteps hurried, and the noise was deafening.

Amid the chaos, the conversation between Hai Ku and Lan Weicai became almost inaudible.

“Weicai, what kind of situation are you in right now?” Hai Ku asked, his face cold. He sighed, unsure of how to deal with stubborn high school students.

“Brother Haiku, I think both of them are really good…”

“So you can’t bear to reject either of them?” Hai Ku felt a sudden shock. He almost thought he was about to hear some classic line.

“No,” Lan Weicai quickly shook her head, not wanting Hai Ku to think she was an easy person. Her voice even trembled slightly, “I just don’t know who to choose. They’re both so good, and I don’t want to hurt either of them…”

Hai Ku looked at her in disbelief. If she weren’t a girl, he would have slapped her by now. “Are you crazy? While you’re hesitating between the two of them, they’re fighting over you. Do you think that’s fair?”

“I don’t know what to do…” Lan Weicai’s eyes started to redden, and she looked worried. “But their family backgrounds are so impressive. If I reject them, do you think I’ll face revenge?”

Hai Ku was at a loss for words. He felt like this girl had been watching too many CEO romance dramas. “In this situation, you should hurry up and reject them, right? If something extreme happens later, and one of them does something drastic for you, that’s what’s truly scary.”

“But…” Lan Weicai hesitated.

“Do you think rejecting them directly would be a shame?” Hai Ku raised an eyebrow.

Lan Weicai’s confidence instantly dropped. “I don’t think so.”

Hai Ku pretended to be deeply troubled, thinking to himself; For those ten times the experience points, I’ve been working hard. “Alright, listen to me. I know you’re having trouble letting go. How about this; tomorrow, when you go to the movies, really observe them. Don’t just focus on their good sides. Try to find a flaw in them, okay?”

“Okay…” Though she was reluctant, Lan Weicai nodded on the surface.

Hai Ku wasn’t sure how much she’d actually take in, but when they reached the building downstairs, he pointed across the street. “Do you know how much a house in the neighboring complex costs?”

“Hmm?” As a high school student, Lan Weicai didn’t have much of a concept of such things. She shook her head, not understanding why Hai Ku had suddenly brought this up.

“More than 10,000-yuan per square meter, and even the smallest houses there are nearly 100 square meters. Duanmu Xi can live there because his family is rich, not because he has money himself. When you’re in high school, you might not think much of it, but once his parents aren’t satisfied with you, have you thought about your options?” Hai Ku spoke realistically, not believing that the heirs of big companies would ever fall for someone so mismatched with them.

He shifted the topic slightly, leading into his own experience. Lan Weicai whispered, “Brother Haiku, why are you suddenly talking about this? I’m not after his money…”

Hai Ku’s expression immediately turned cold. He felt like he must have been bored out of his mind to start lecturing this high school girl about relationships. “So, when you go to the movies tomorrow, will you be spending your own money?”

“I…”

“Alright, I don’t want to say too much. Don’t come to me with these problems in the future,” Hai Ku said as they reached his house. He felt there was no need to keep arguing. “Get some good rest. Don’t slack off on your homework. The monthly exam is coming up soon. I hope you’ll do well.”

He slammed the door shut and went straight to his room.

When he took out his phone, he realized that Long Ritian had added him to their dorm group chat.

There were five people in the group, all heirs of major companies, and only Hai Ku was there, completely alone with nothing to his name. But he wasn’t bothered by it. In his previous life, he had once had 20 million, and he never thought it was anything that special.

However, to keep up with the situation, Hai Ku fiddled with his phone and changed his nickname in the group; [Weak, Pitiful, and Helpless.]

Long Ritian: [Hey, tomorrow I’m booking the whole theater. Let’s all go see a movie together.]

Weak, Pitiful, and Helpless: [I won’t go. I haven’t finished my homework yet.]

Duanmu Xi: [What did the little junior say when she went back?]

Yan Yue: [Did she say who she likes?]

Long Ritian: [Oh! Now you’re straight-up fishing for info!]

Hai Ku watched the messages flood in, feeling conflicted. If he directly revealed what Lan Weicai had said, it would probably ruin their favorable impressions of her.

But on the other hand, Hai Ku felt it wasn’t very ethical to badmouth someone behind their back.

As he was still hesitating, Yan Yufeng sent a message in the chat.

Yan Yufeng: [I don’t know if she asked Hai Ku, but she asked me directly. You guys decide for yourselves. [Long Screenshot.jpg]]

This surprised Hai Ku. It had only been 20 minutes since he got home, and how had Lan Weicai already messaged Yan Yufeng so quickly?

Yan Yufeng: [Last time I gave her the Huanggang practice books, she added my QQ number. Just now, she sent me these messages. How should I reply to her? What do you guys think?]

Hai Ku frowned and clicked on the long screenshot.

– Lan Weicai: Yan Yufeng, are you in the same dorm as Duanmu Xi and Yan Yue? I’m going to the movies with them tomorrow. Can you give me some advice? What kind of movies do they like?

– Yan Yufeng: I don’t know.

– Lan Weicai: Don’t be so stingy. You’re all in the same dorm. Just help me ask them, please! And also… if both of them ask me out, which one do you think is better?

– Yan Yufeng: You just ask anyone about this? Can’t you decide for yourself?

– Lan Weicai: Wuwuwu…

– Lan Weicai: I’m sorry, I was a bit impulsive, but I don’t want to be someone who plays both sides. So I wanted to get your advice. Brother Haiku stopped talking to me… So now I can only ask you…

With the screenshot out in the open, Hai Ku felt a sense of helplessness, unable to comment.

His fingers tapped on the phone screen as he asked the question that had been bothering him.

Weak, Pitiful, and Helpless: [What do you guys even like about her? First it was Yan Yufeng, then Ouyang Guang, then Duanmu Xi and Yan Yue. Is it just me and Ritian who are normal in this dorm?]

Long Ritian: [No, no, no. I did think about making a move, but I don’t anymore.]

Ouyang Guang: […]

Yan Yufeng: [I’ve given up. You guys keep fighting over it.]

Long Ritian: [Don’t be like that. Look, she said she doesn’t want to play both sides. How about you all do rock-paper-scissors? The one who loses backs off.]

Weak, Pitiful, and Helpless: […]

Hai Ku left the group and stopped paying attention to the messages. He wouldn’t go out tomorrow. As for what Lan Weicai wanted, she’d figure it out for herself after hitting a wall.

He worked seriously on two test papers before heading to the shower. Afterward, he dove straight into bed and quickly fell into a sweet sleep.

Compared to Hai Ku’s comfort, Lan Weicai was much more restless.

Thinking about the movie tomorrow, her excited emotions were beyond words. She pulled out all her clothes, but no matter how she paired them, nothing seemed right.

By the time it was 2 A.M., Lan Weicai tiredly crawled back into bed.

The weekend passed quietly, and Hai Ku even completed five or six more test papers. Gradually adjusting to the intensity of high school practice, Hai Ku felt confident about his goal of getting into college.

Lan Weicai’s condition had been off these past few days. He didn’t know what had happened when she went to the movies, but when he saw her at school, she always seemed down and drained.

It wasn’t something he had much to do with, and Hai Ku didn’t care much. However, Long Ritian kept talking, spilling all the details.

The day they went to the movies, besides Hai Ku and Ouyang Guang, the other four people from the dorm went along.

And for some reason, all four of them confessed to Lan Weicai. That’s why she’d been so tangled up lately, not knowing who to accept.

Hai Ku thought their actions were a bit much, and he also thought Lan Weicai was being foolish. “What if she actually accepts one of you?”
