The Curse of Time (Harry Potter Fanfic)

Chapter 92: All's well that ends well

Pov Evelyn,

Ginny's gaze first turned to the monster's carcass, her face pale. Then she looked at me and finally at the diary I had pulled from the Basilisk's fang.

Tears welled up in the youngest Weasley's eyes.

"Evelyn, I was the one who opened the Chamber of Secrets. I didn't want to be expelled from Hogwarts, so I kept quiet, but I really wanted to ask for your help."

I dropped the diary but sheathed my katana — only a fool would abandon their weapon.

Author: "What Evelyn means is that you're stupid, Harry."

I pulled Ginny into my arms, gently comforting her.

"Don't worry. No one is going to expel you for something you didn't consciously do. You're perhaps the one most deserving of sympathy, having to carry such a heavy secret all year. I should have noticed and helped you sooner. I'm sorry, Ginny."

I recalled how she had often seemed on the verge of speaking but would always hold back and walk away.

Not wanting to intrude on her secrets, I had left her alone, hoping she would open up eventually. I should have acted sooner.

Once Ginny calmed down, I released her from my embrace and turned back toward the monster.

"Wait a few more minutes before we go reassure everyone and tell them you're safe."

I closed my eyes and circled the giant snake before gouging out its left eye as well.

Purple drops stained my katana blade, but I didn't wipe them off — it was venom, and it would be invaluable for destroying Ravenclaw's diadem.

Soon, that would make two Horcruxes destroyed. The only question remaining was how many more Voldemort had created.

Without hesitation, I pulled out the Basilisk's fangs, knowing they were valuable for special potions and research.

I also took a few scales, intending to analyze them during the upcoming holiday.

As for the rest of the carcass, I would deal with it later.

Thanks to my small frame, I managed to support Ginny's body on my right shoulder.

"What happened to your shoulder?" she asked.

"Just a minor explosion — nothing serious. The only downside is that I had to create an additional parallel mind to heal."

We began to move away, finally leaving the macabre scene behind.

We followed a path beside the slide, which began to rise higher and higher.

"It's easier to get in than out, but easy if you're a crook."

My little joke lightened the mood just a bit.

There was a door, which we opened, revealing the second floor.

When I turned around, the door had already closed, and as I looked back, it was nothing more than a faint memory.

"There's no denying that ancient magic was very powerful."

I entered from Dumbledore's office, feeling like this was the right place to be.

Knocking on the door, it opened to reveal the entire Weasley family, along with Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore.

They were shocked to see me and Ginny, but before we could say anything, her mother rushed over and embraced her.

"We thought we might never see you again."

Tears streamed from her eyes, mirrored by those of the other Weasleys, who gathered around to hug Ginny in turn.

Mrs. Weasley turned to me and thanked me deeply, and I explained the situation, stating that without Ginny's abduction, we would have had more time. A dozen experts were on their way to deal with the monster.

I now realize that my actions were more than foolish, but I didn't have the time to think it through — every second counted.

When I went to retrieve the rooster I had bought and hidden in the aviary, I simultaneously sent a letter to the Ministry to inform them that I didn't have time to explain everything, but that the monster was real and that even if I hadn't returned, the Chamber of Secrets was open.

Ginny was rebuked for trusting an object with a mind of its own, but Dumbledore defended her, saying that Voldemort was a master of persuasion, and that anyone else would have been in the same situation.

Eventually, the Weasley family left to take Ginny to the infirmary for a checkup to determine if there would be any lasting effects.

I stayed behind in the office to speak with Dumbledore.
