The Cursed Wizard: A Game Made Real

Chapter 23: The Rise of Dark Power

It was Kidel.

"It's finished."

With those words, the other 1st squad members appear one by one.

"It seems like we weren't of much help?"

"No. They were distracted by the sound of the 3rd platoon coming up, so they easily gave themselves an opening. They were shaken when they realized that the 1st floor was under attack."

Kidel said this calmly and readjusted the rifle he was holding.

Although the magical power flowing out of her body was not that great, the way she handled the rifle seemed very precise and quick.

Kidel, who had finished reloading and replacing the magazine, looked at Dray and urged him on.

"Let's go up quickly. The second platoon will be stalling on the rooftop."

The mercenary group went straight to the third floor as instructed and swept away all the remaining scavengers at once.

A considerable number of troops were mobilized to deal with the mercenary group that had already infiltrated the first and second floors. On the other hand, the mercenary group's strength increased immediately as the personnel who had been scattered to attack the first and second floors at once gathered together.

The fact that the wizard who should have been helping to protect the third floor was subdued by Leo was also a huge loss for the Scavenger.

With the 3rd platoon in front and the 1st platoon providing firepower from behind, the scavengers, who had no means of countermeasure other than firearms, were swept away helplessly.

Ike muttered as he approached the stairs leading to the rooftop.

"It's easier than I thought."

"If we keep going like this, we can finish it sooner than scheduled."

The scavengers were being cleared out much faster than originally planned. At this rate, it seemed possible to finish everything before the additional scavenger reinforcements arrived.

"Shouldn't we be charging a little more money to those consulting guys?"

"It's not over yet. We need to finish backing up your company's data and get rid of all the bastards living in this cesspool."

"Well, at this rate, it looks like it'll be over before the night is over."

Even as the mercenaries were talking like that, they secretly turned their gaze towards Leo, who was silently following behind them.

They also knew very well that things would not have been this easy if it weren't for the lightning magic that Leo had detonated just before charging into the building.

At that time, the number of scavengers attempting to return fire at the mercenary group was easily over twenty.

By using just the right magic at the right time, Leo alone was able to subdue nearly 10% of the Scavenger force.

It was only natural that the mercenary group, having seen what kind of power a proper wizard could have, would take a liking to Leo.

Even Kidel, who had initially criticized Leo for smoking, spoke to Dray in a subtle way.

"Captain, can't we recruit that person as our exclusive magician?"

"… ..I don't have money."

"Why don't you invest the money you earned by picking up two useless chicks in that guy? It looks like he can feed four people by himself."

"… .."

"If we work with a magician like that, work will be much easier, we'll make a lot of money, and our office will quickly become famous…"

"I'm sure other people besides us think similarly."

Kidel pouts, but doesn't say anything in response.

In her opinion, Leo's magical abilities were unparalleled compared to those of other wizards she had encountered, and although he had some strange aspects, his personality was also very calm.

If you have a personality that is easy to work with, but your abilities are overwhelming, it wouldn't be strange if you get calls from all over the place, and there would be a line of places that you want.

"Jenny is a magician who took pictures herself and recommended it. If the human resources office took pictures and sent them to me, it wouldn't be possible to get it for a small amount of money."

There is nothing more foolish than coveting a jewel you cannot have.

However, Leo was seriously contemplating whether or not to smoke one more cigarette since he had already smoked one.

Of course, you never know what will happen in life, but it's best not to have any regrets right now.

Dray wiped the blood off his sword and lifted the communicator, thinking that way.

The goal was to contact the 2nd platoon holding out on the rooftop and head straight to the rooftop.

"Weian, do you hear me? As you've probably already confirmed via communicator, we've taken over the third floor and subdued all remaining troops. We're planning on going up to the fourth floor now. Can you respond?"

Dray spoke in a light tone, but his face hardened when he heard the voice coming from the communicator.

[…..colon?]

Wayan's voice was faint, as if it would cut off at any moment.

It's obvious something's wrong, since you can't even hear what Dray is saying.

The mercenaries who saw that expression stopped chatting, immediately picked up their equipment, and started running up to the rooftop.

Something went wrong.

Retired military

I climb the stairs in one breath with short but quick steps.

Dada dadada..!!

Leo also followed, pulling out a pistol from his bosom and casting a secondary spell on it.

As you climb to the rooftop, the cluttered office disappears and an open view is revealed.

A large generator located in a corner of a spacious space, a tall power line tower that seems to pierce the sky, and countless wires connected to it.

And the bright red blood flowing excitedly on the floor.

"Way-an!!"

Dray saw Wayan rolling around covered in blood and ran towards him screaming.

The situation is not much different for the other mercenaries in the 2nd platoon.

They are all barely able to breathe, almost incapable of fighting. They are seriously injured and can barely open their eyes to welcome the arrival of their allies.

"Phew… Captain. Sorry… ."

As Wayan opened his eyes with difficulty and muttered, Dray quickly took out some medicine from his waistband and poured it on Wayan's wound.

A recovery potion with the power of regeneration. It is sold at a fairly high price, but is not more valuable than a human life.

The other mercenaries were taking similar measures, each holding onto their fallen comrades.

As Wayan's breathing calmed down somewhat, Dray quickly raised his head and looked around.

The precision of the technique is such that it's almost as if someone didn't intentionally deliver the final blow. This is something that would be impossible for anyone but a thoroughly trained professional.

If a force of this level of skill had appeared within the Scavengers, there would be no reason to make them do this and then run away.

He will obviously be watching the situation without leaving his seat.

The other mercenaries seemed to have the same thoughts, and they all looked around with sharp nerves.

A view of the rooftop with only a cold wind blowing.

In that empty landscape where no enemy is visible, only the sound of the blade fluttering in the air continues.

Where are you?

At one point, the magical powers of a dozen or so mercenaries spreading out in all directions overlapped, and a soft breathing sound could be heard.

As if they had made a promise, everyone simultaneously turned the equipment they were holding in their hands.

As Dray sat up, the wires hanging from the generator began to sway, revealing a man sitting among them.

"I thought guests might come, but… ."

Gray hair, a bushy beard, scars all over his face, and cold, sunken eyes.

An old man with an intense murderous aura that seemed like he could overwhelm anyone just by meeting them was waving a knife in his hand.

"I didn't know the truth would be this bad."

"… ..It was you."

Dray's expression distorted greatly as he saw the knife soaked in blood.

"This son of a bitch… .. Did he just watch my members die like this?"

The man who saw that face laughed sharply. His voice was dry.

"Hey, do you know how much this operation cost?"

"what?"

"It was something that the three branches gathered together and scraped together from whatever resources they had. We took over a server that had access to the network that managed District 53's taxes, and bribed dozens of people to get here."

The man's speech was slow and slurred, but Dray immediately knew what he was talking about.

"… ..You're not in your right mind. Are you thinking of embezzling the reserve funds managed by the Balkan city government?"

"There's no need to go to the city government. The money managed by the sham district office alone exceeds several billion cells. If you occupy a proper power generation facility and make the power of the entire 53rd district unstable, the network security will also be relatively lax. Is it a bad thing to go in and out of the loophole created by a rotten organization?"

"Well, at least it doesn't seem like a business that a retired soldier would be able to run."

As he spoke, Dray slowly brought his finger to the trigger.

The man who heard his words had a cold look in his eyes.

"… … It's been over three years since I left the front lines. I thought I had lost all my soldierly charm, but I was wrong."

"How could someone who exudes such sophisticated murderous intent be an ordinary criminal?"

"Haha… I know that well. By any chance, you too?"

Dray said nothing in response to the man's mocking reply.

The old man said nothing about his origins, but the atmosphere emanating from his actions could not be hidden.

A refined yet brutal technique that perfectly subdues the 2nd squad. A calm yet stiff atmosphere and restrained speech.

We all had the old Drey Krimgaldo and missed it.

But now it's all been long forgotten.

"To be honest, I have no interest in debating the rights and wrongs of this matter. I don't care what happens to the Scavenger."

Two soldiers, stripped of their duty and their duty of justice, stood facing each other.

"It's just business. Just know that."

"It doesn't matter. I didn't start this with the intention of stopping here."

The man who came down from the wire put his hand on my arm and said.

"… ..It's too early to be stopped by just one mercenary group."

In a tense situation, Dray's head starts to spin quickly.

What is the most dangerous and lethal means that can emerge from deep within?

A pistol, a grenade, or a smokescreen or flashbang to obscure the line of sight… Either way, the moment the back of the man's hand reveals skin again, the fight is over.

And the man betrayed all of Dray's expectations and pulled out something several times more dangerous than them.

What protruded from his arms was a disposable syringe with a long needle.

As soon as he saw the syringe, Dray felt a chill down his spine and raised his gun, shouting sharply at the mercenaries behind him.

"Stop it!!"

Tata tata tata tang!!

The shooters opened fire straight at the man, but his reaction was much faster.

The man quickly moved to the left to avoid the mercenaries' shots, and without a moment's hesitation, he inserted the syringe into his arm and pushed the cylinder in.

Phew!

"Phew… ."

The effects of administering an unknown liquid to the body were immediate.

The man's eyes turn black and his arms begin to tremble.

A chilling black fog spread around his body, slowly soaking the floor.

The mercenaries kept pulling the trigger because of the ominous appearance, but everything went awry the moment the man stomped his foot.

Kwajik!!

"Kuaaaah!!"

It only took a moment for a fist-sized hole to be punched through the chest of the mercenary who was aiming at the man with a rifle from the side of the formation.

"Hansen!!"

Ike quickly poured the potion into the wound while calling his name, but it was too late. The blood pouring out of his chest was too much to simply stop with medicine.

In an instant, the pupils became empty and the mouth gaped open. There was no breathing, only slight convulsions. It was instant death.

"Do you know why I didn't kill those guys who came up here first?"

The man said, shaking his blood-soaked hands.

Before he knew it, he was holding Hansen's beating heart in his hands.

In that short moment, he pierced the opponent's chest and stole the organs of a living person.

"To use this power… you need vivid, living fuel."

With those words, the man began to chew on the raw heart he was holding.

"… … .."

At that bizarre and horrifying sight, the mercenaries were speechless and raised their weapons.

If that wasn't a lie, then it was obvious without even asking whose heart would be used as fuel next.

In the cool air, which was completely different from the leisurely atmosphere from before, Leo observed the man closely without even raising an eyebrow.

To be precise, the unknown energy flowing around him.

Sticky yet flexible, slow yet nimble. It occupies the surface without moving in a straight line, and instead of falling from top to bottom, it rises from bottom to top.

A nature that is closer to going against order than conforming to it.

'It's black magic.'

It was my first time seeing it in person, but it was a familiar movement.

There were quite a few magic players in WORLD who chose black magic as their main skill, and the proportion of related NPCs was also considerable, so Leo was able to quickly guess the identity of the syringe the man had used.

'Seeing as they are greedy for human flesh, they seem to be of the Vampiric Order, and Bloodier Size could be a possibility. That is, if the relevant magic system still exists in this world... .'

The Vampiric Order literally refers to sorcerers who borrow the characteristics of vampires, while Bloodier Size is a beastly technique that strengthens itself by taking the flesh and blood of its opponents.

Even among black magicians, the sorcerers and spells were famous for being gory, so Leo also remembered their names.

'I know there are significant side effects, so you decided to take the risk here? It's not something to be taken lightly.'

Seeing one mercenary lose his heart without even reacting, Leo can't let his guard down.
