The Dark Revenger

Chapter 2: Future Plans

I opened my eyes, my body slick with sweat, and my lungs desperate for air. The pounding in my head was relentless, a brutal rhythm that sent waves of agony crashing through my skull.

Memories surged through my mind like a tidal wave, each one more vivid and horrifying than the last. The searing pain of betrayal, the cold laughter of the one I had trusted, and the brutal, sickening sight of my own end. I screamed a raw, guttural sound that tore from the depths of my soul. "Aaaaaaaaaaaa!"

The scream echoed through the room, lingering in the air like a ghost before finally fading away. I was left with nothing but the sound of my own ragged breaths and the steady drip, drip, drip of tears as they rolled down my cheeks and splattered onto the sheets beneath me. I wiped them away with trembling hands, my mind racing as I tried to make sense of the horrors I had just witnessed.

My phone lay on the nightstand, its screen displaying the date in stark, unforgiving numbers: March 7, 2024. Today was the day it all began. The day the world as we knew it changed forever.

It had started with the portals, gateways to other worlds that had appeared without warning, scattering themselves across the globe. Through them, humans had begun to awaken powers, extraordinary abilities that allowed them to confront the dangers that lurked within those otherworldly realms.

We called them Hunters, those brave or foolish souls who ventured into the portals, facing untold horrors in their quest to close the dungeons and protect our world.

Inside the dungeons, anything could happen. One might encounter orcs, their brutal strength and savage nature a deadly combination. Or perhaps elves, their elegance and grace belying their lethal prowess.

And there were other creatures, too, beings of nightmare and shadow that defied description or comprehension. The goal of the Hunters was simple: defeat the final boss, close the dungeon, and prevent the creatures within from escaping and wreaking havoc on our world.

But there was a catch. If the Hunters failed to close the dungeon within three months, the portals would stabilize, and the creatures would be free to emerge, unleashing their fury upon the Earth. It was a race against time, a desperate struggle to save our world from the brink of destruction.

As I sat there, my heart pounding and my mind reeling, I couldn't shake the feeling that what I had experienced was more than just a dream. The pain, the betrayal, the sight of my own death—it had all felt so real, so visceral. I knew, deep in my bones, that I had to act, to do something to change the course of events that had led to my demise.

I threw off the covers and swung my legs over the side of the bed, my body trembling with a mix of fear and determination. I couldn't let the events of that vision come to pass. I wouldn't let them. I would find a way to stop the betrayal, save my friends, and protect humanity from the threats that lay beyond the portals.

The world might be changing, but I was resolved to face whatever challenges lay ahead. I would become a Hunter, venturing into the dungeons and confronting the dangers within. I would fight, not just for my own survival, but for the survival of us all. For I knew, with a certainty that sent a shiver down my spine, that the fate of the world rested in the hands of the Hunters. And I was determined to be one of them, no matter the cost.

I took a moment to gather my bearings, my eyes scanning the familiar surroundings. This was my room, the same one I had lived in before everything began. The same posters hung on the walls, the same books lined the shelves, and the same faint scent of home lingered in the air. It was as if no time had passed, as if the horrors I had witnessed were nothing more than a distant dream. But I knew better. I knew that the world had changed and that I had changed with it.

A sudden realization struck me like a bolt of lightning. Today was the day that everything would begin anew. Today, at precisely 12:00 p.m., some people would awaken their talents or superpowers. I glanced at the clock on my nightstand, its digital display reading 11:58 a.m. In just two minutes, I would regain the power that I had possessed in my previous life. The power of "Unlimited Potential."

A surge of anticipation coursed through my veins as I recalled the incredible ability that had once been mine. It was through this power that I had trained myself to the brink of death and beyond, adapting and growing stronger with each passing day.

Every time I pushed myself to the limit, I emerged more formidable, and more resilient. The intensity of my training increased exponentially, and with it, my strength and endurance.

I remembered the countless hours spent honing my skills, and the relentless pursuit of perfection that had driven me to become the strongest version of myself.

The power of "Unlimited Potential" allowed me to surpass my limits, to break through barriers that others deemed insurmountable. It had made me a force to be reckoned with, a Hunter capable of facing even the most daunting challenges.

As the seconds ticked away, I felt a growing sense of determination and resolve. This time, I would not let the events of my past repeat themselves. This time, I would use my power to protect those I cared about, to safeguard the world from the threats that lay beyond the portals. I would become stronger, faster, and more formidable than ever before.

A smile tugged at the corners of my mouth as a profound realization washed over me. This time, I already possessed the skills that I had worked so hard to train in my previous life. The countless hours of relentless training, the endless pushing of my limits, were all etched into my muscle memory, ready to be unleashed once more.

However, I knew that my body would need time to adapt, to fully embrace the powers that now coursed through my veins.

I took a deep breath, allowing the familiar sensation of my abilities to settle within me. The power of "Unlimited Potential" was a double-edged sword—it granted me the capacity to grow stronger with each challenge, but it also demanded that I push myself to the very brink of my capabilities. I was ready to face that challenge once again, to hone my skills and adapt to the newfound strength that surged within me.

But there was more. I had a secret, a hidden advantage that set me apart from the others. I was the only one with a second gift, a unique ability that would give me an edge in the battles to come.

This second gift was something I had kept hidden, a trump card that I would reveal only when the time was right. It was a power that complemented my "Unlimited Potential," making me an even more formidable force to be reckoned with.

As I stood there, the weight of my responsibilities settling on my shoulders, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation.

The road ahead would be fraught with danger and uncertainty, but I was ready to face it head-on. With my powers restored and my second gift waiting in the wings, I knew that I had the tools to protect those I cared about and to safeguard the world from the threats that lay beyond the portals.
