The Diary of a Crazy Teenager

Chapter 24: Damsel in Distress

Veronica, gripped her duffle bag and matched down the street like a woman on a mission.

She had had enough of this nonsense and today, she was going to bring it to an end.

She ignored the curious look on passerbys faces. She didn't blame them though, it wasn't every day you saw a girl clad in army clothes and holding many bags. But unbeknown to them, her bag housed weapons.

The weapons that she was going to use to bring the dead back to life.

Veronica, stopped at the familiar gray house that she had spent most of her childhood, teenagehood, and she probably will spend her adulthood in. She brought out the spare key that she was given and opened the door, not bothering to knock.

She had initially refused when she was offered the key but after persistent persuasion, and by that she meant the threat to burn her hair, she had gladly accepted it.

Now it was going to be very useful to her because, today she was a knight in shining armour and, she was going to rescue a damsel in distress from the shackles of her depression.

"Veronica, when did you come in?"

"Hi Alex." She smiled slightly at the brother of her best friend. "Just now. I let myself in." She added, while raising the key.

Alex, nodded and nudged for her to come. "Want a cup of tea?"

"No thanks, I'm on a mission."

"Is that why you're dressed like a joke?" Alex sipped his tea and studied her.

"It can't be helped, I'm here to rescue a damsel in distress so if you could be kind enough to point me to her direction, I will be much obliged."

"She's in her room. Go get her out before she rots."

"Yes sir!"

Alex, walked away, muttering something in Spanish which Veronica ignored. She made her way towards Alice's room.

Ronnie, flung the room door open without sparing a second thought.

"Go away." Alice called out.

"No I'm not. I've had enough of your sadness. How long are you going to remain here?"

Alice sat up briefly and stared blankly at her friend before shaking her head and laying back down. She concluded that Ronnie was not worth her time."Aren't you supposed to be in school?"

"Funny coming from the person who has missed two days of school."

"I'm sick."

"From what? Your stupidity?"

"No, from a broken heart."

Ronnie, sniggered at her comment and made her way closer to Alice. "Don't be ridiculous. Say, what can I do to make you feel better?"

Alice, sat up slightly thrilled at the thought. "Well, if you could get dressed in a nurse's outfit, maybe I'll feel better?" She shook her head at her suggestion. "But your outfit right now makes me feel even worse." She laid back on the bed, feeling drained.

"Good thing I came prepared." Ronnie, unzipped one of the bags and bought out a nurse's outfit. "Tada! So if I wear this, you'll feel better?"

"Did you come here to cosplay?!" Alice shrieked as she sat and every sleepiness she previously had vanished. "What if I said I wanted you to dress as something else?"

"Well..." Ronnie, pointed at the different bags. "I came more than prepared, so pick an outfit. Just for today, I'll be anything you want."

"Oh Heavens!" Alice groaned as she tried to think of a way to escape.

"Do you want to know the best part? I know you love Anime so I have the outfit of that white haired guy who has a blindfold on. What's his name again?"

"Please stop..."

"Ha, Gojo!"

Alice, screamed and began to question how she ended up with a lunatic for a best friend.

Laura, looked at her recipe book, pondering on what cake to bake.

Her first choice would have been a chocolate cake but, she remembered that she had made it once too many times for it to be counted as something special.

She wanted to do something that showed she cared or she was putting in effort at least.

"Babe, what cake are you making?"

Laura, looked at her boyfriend who looked like he'd just woken up.

"Not sure yet, I'm still deciding."

"Well, you could make my absolute favorite, cheesecake!" He said excitedly.

"I would have, except this isn't for you."

"Sucks."

She smiled slightly and proceeded to pick up a pan in a cupboard. "Thanks again for letting me use your kitchen." Her oven, had caught fire the last time she baked cookies and her family had been too lazy to call a repairman. So she'd asked Aiden, her boyfriend, if she could use his.

"You don't have to thank me, besides I don't do this for free. I get a free bite of whatever you're making."

"Lucky aren't you?" She closed the recipe book once she had made up her mind and turned to start the process.

"How many layers are you making?" Aiden asked as he watched her bring out more pans.

"Like four? Maybe five?" She shrugged, not yet certain.

"Are you making a wedding cake?!"

"No silly, I'm making a cheer up cake for my close friend. Silly aren't I?" She washed her hands in the sink, avoiding looking at him. "For someone who's usually outspoken, I find it hard to face her now. Maybe it's because she's always been the one to cheer me up. It's hard seeing the roles reversed. I've tried talking to her though but I feel like I'm wasting my time. So I want to be more intentional, to show I care?" She stopped her rambling and faced him. She was however surprised, when she saw the look of admiration on his face.

"That's really sweet of you Laura and also thoughtful."

"You think?"

"I know so and your friend would surely know so too."

Laura blushed, slightly embarrassed at his words. "Of course she would silly."

"So what flavor would it be?"

"I'll make a five layers red velvet cake, use red frosting and add cute ribbons all over. While I'm at it, I'll make her favorite milkshake."

"You know Laura, I'm sure your friend will gain something from all this."

"What?" Laura asked, curious about it.

"She might just cheer up but at least she'll gain some weight."

Erica, carried different shopping bags and walked down the street, trying her best not to stumble and fall.

She had gotten carried away. Carried away, was even an understatement.

She had initially planned to get a set of Teddy bears and probably a Lego toy but how she ended up with more than 20 items, was a big shock, even to herself.

She groaned as she regretted not getting a ride earlier because now, the streets seemed practically empty.

It wasn't as though her house was far from the mall but, it was because of the things she was carrying which made the walk seem endless.

How many things had she even bought? Definitely way more than she had planned.

Erica, has decided to get a little gift for Alice to cheer her up but when she got to the store, she saw lots of cute things she knew that Alice would love. Before she knew it, she was on a shopping spree.

"Do you need help?"

Erica looked up and her eyes met a set of electric blue eyes. She took in a breathe at his looks and concluded that God did have favourites.

"Ah, your uniform." She stared at the familiar green uniform that she had worn throughout junior year. She had been more than happy when she became a senior because it meant she didn't have to wear the uniforms again. "Are you going to my school?"

The blonde guy nodded and smiled slightly. "Yes I am, or rather I'll be."

"Really? I thought I knew everyone in that place. How come I've never seen you before?"

"Probably because I just transferred today. I happened to notice you today in school. Head of the disciplinary committee? A teacher pointed you out to me but before I could say my greetings, you ran off."

No wonder her knew her. "I apologize for my rudeness. I had something urgent to attend to."

"No worries, I don't hold grudge's."

"Thank Heavens, that would rather be unpleasant." Eric muttered, remembering the amount of people that hated her because of the silliest reasons.

I'm Liam by the way. It's nice to meet you."

"And I'm Erica. The pleasure is mine."

"So Erica, want a hand?" Liam offered again.

"Thanks for the offer but I'll pass. My house isn't far from here." She shook her head slightly while still maintaining her smile.

"You seem like you're struggling though."

"Do I?" She chuckled at the thought of how ridiculous she probably looked. "But it's something I have to do. I'm merely making a small sacrifice for a friend. If I let you help me, I'd feel like I didn't try hard enough."

Liam nodded although he didn't look convinced. "Weird way of thinking but I guess you have a point. Whoever your friend is, they're one hell of a lucky person." He waved at her before crossing the street.

Erica watched him until he disappeared from her view before she released a sigh and continued down the street.

She had definitely made the right call. The last thing she wanted was to feel like she wasn't trying hard enough for a close frien

d.

Not like Alice would even know that she did all this by herself.

"Alice Anderson, you better appreciate these gifts because you owe me a cute guy, big time."
