Chapter 63: Rebekah Vs The Mystic Falls Gang
Elena froze as Rebekah Mikaelson stepped into the classroom, her heels clicking softly against the floor. The air felt heavier instantly, and Elena's chest tightened with panic.
Rebekah looked from Alyssa to Elena, her lips curling into a sly smile. "Well, isn't this a surprise," she said, her tone dripping with mock amusement. "Elena Gilbert. Alive and well."
Elena's back pressed harder against the wall as her eyes darted between the two women. "What do you want?" she managed to ask, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rebekah rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Oh, don't flatter yourself, Elena. If I'd known you were alive, I'd have dealt with you sooner. But lucky for you, I just happened to be passing by when Alyssa decided to play detective."
Elena's breathing grew shallow as her mind raced. Without thinking, she pushed off the wall and made a run for the door.
But she barely made it a step before her legs refused to move. She looked down, her eyes widening in horror. Her feet were rooted to the floor, almost as if the ground itself had come alive to hold her in place.
"What the—" she stammered, struggling to lift her legs, but it was no use.
Rebekah tilted her head, intrigued, and turned to Alyssa. "Was that you?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
Alyssa shrugged, a small smirk playing on her lips. "Yeah, that was me."
Rebekah's lips twitched, almost impressed. "That's some skill," she said, giving Alyssa an approving nod.
"Thanks," Alyssa replied, though her tone shifted as she frowned and glanced down at her hand. Her fingers brushed against the ring she was wearing, and her eyes narrowed in thought.
Rebekah noticed the change in her expression. "Something wrong?"
Alyssa didn't answer immediately. She twisted the ring absently, her mind clearly elsewhere. "No," she said finally, though her voice lacked confidence. "Just... figuring things out."
Rebekah let it go, turning her attention back to Elena, who was still frozen in place, her panic mounting. "Relax, Elena," Rebekah said with a wicked smile. "You're not going anywhere. And honestly, you should be thanking Alyssa for keeping you from embarrassing yourself with that pathetic attempt to run."
Elena glared at them both, her chest heaving. "Let me go!" she demanded, though her voice cracked slightly.
Alyssa chuckled, shaking her head. "You don't get to make demands, sweetheart."
Rebekah stepped closer, leaning down until her face was level with Elena's. "You've caused quite the mess, you know that?" she said, her tone mockingly sweet. "Keeping my brother from creating his hybrids, staying alive when you should be dead… You're just full of surprises."
Elena's jaw clenched as she stared up at Rebekah. "If you think Klaus is going to win this, you're wrong," she said through gritted teeth.
Rebekah straightened, laughing softly. "Oh, Elena," she said, shaking her head. "You really don't understand how this works, do you? Klaus always wins. One way or another."
Alyssa's eyes flickered back to the ring on her finger, her thoughts still lingering on the strange surge of power she'd felt. But she quickly masked her expression, stepping forward to stand beside Rebekah.
"So, what's the plan?" Alyssa asked casually.
Rebekah smirked. "Oh, we take her to Klaus, of course," she said, brushing a strand of hair off her shoulder. "He's going to want to see this for himself."
Elena's heart sank as she realized there was no way out. Whatever power Alyssa had, it wasn't something she could fight against. And now, she was being dragged straight into the lion's den.
Before Rebekah could take another step toward Elena, a loud caw echoed through the room as a raven flew in through the open window. Its wings flapped furiously as it dived straight at Rebekah.
She reacted instantly, catching the bird mid-air with one hand. Her grip was firm but not gentle as she glared at the creature. "Really?" Rebekah scoffed, unimpressed, before tossing the raven aside with ease.
But before it hit the ground, the raven shimmered in the air, morphing rapidly into a human figure. Damon landed gracefully on his feet, a smirk already in place as he dusted off his jacket.
"Miss me, Rebekah?" Damon asked, his voice dripping with his usual cocky charm.
Rebekah rolled her eyes. "Of course, it's you," she muttered.
Alyssa stared at Damon, her brow furrowed in confusion. "What are you?" she asked, her tone blunt.
Damon turned to her, flashing a grin. "A vampire, of course," he said casually. Then he tilted his head, studying her. "What's your name, sweetheart? Or should I just call you 'rookie'?"
Alyssa ignored the nickname, her confusion turning into curiosity. "Vampires don't turn into birds," she said flatly.
Rebekah smirked, crossing her arms as she leaned against a desk. "Not just any vampire," she said, her tone smug. "That little trick? It's a perk of Klaus's bloodline. We call it Transmutation. Balkanics, as they are known, have a few... advantages as so the rest of the vampires we Originals turn."
Alyssa frowned, glancing between Damon and Rebekah. "Balkanics? Never heard of that before," she said skeptically.
Damon chuckled, stepping closer to Alyssa but keeping an eye on Rebekah. "That's because it's an exclusive club, rookie. Klaus's club. And trust me, the perks come with a price."
Rebekah's smirk widened. "And yet, here you are, Damon. Still reaping the benefits."
Damon shrugged, his tone turning sharper. "Doesn't mean I owe him anything."
Elena, still rooted to the ground, watched the exchange with wide eyes. "Damon," she said, her voice trembling with a mix of relief and urgency.
Damon glanced at her, his smirk softening slightly. "Don't worry, Elena. I've got this."
Rebekah raised an eyebrow. "You've got this? Oh, Damon, you always did have a flair for overconfidence."
Alyssa, still processing what she'd just learned, narrowed her eyes at Damon. "So, what now, raven-boy?"
Damon's grin returned, this time aimed at her. "Now? I suggest you let Elena go. Unless you want to see what else I can do."
Rebekah laughed, shaking her head. "You're out of your depth, Damon. As always."
Damon didn't wait. He lunged at Rebekah, claws out, moving faster than any human eye could follow. But Rebekah barely flinched. She sidestepped smoothly, her movements almost lazy, and backhanded him mid-air. Damon flew across the room, crashing into a desk with a loud thud.
"Really, Damon?" Rebekah said, shaking her head as she dusted off her hand. "I'm an Original, an old one. You can't even begin to fathom what I'm capable of."
Before Damon could recover, she was already moving toward him, her hand reaching out to grab him. But the moment her fingers brushed his jacket, Rebekah froze. Her head jerked back as her face twisted in pain. She clutched her temples, stumbling slightly.
Rebekah turned, her sharp eyes scanning the room until they landed on Bonnie. The witch stood in the doorway, her hands stretched out, her voice steady as she chanted a spell. The air around her seemed to crackle with energy.
Alyssa's gaze snapped to Bonnie, and before the spell could reach its peak, she waved her hand. The energy around Bonnie collapsed instantly, and her chant faltered. Bonnie staggered, a thin line of blood trickling from her nose.
"You're bleeding already?" Alyssa said, her voice calm but curious. Her eyes flickered to Rebekah. "Or is it because of who you're targeting?"
Rebekah ignored Alyssa's comment, her expression hard as she turned to Bonnie. She locked eyes with the witch, her lips curling into a dangerous smile. Bonnie barely had time to react before a scream tore from her throat. She dropped to her knees, clutching at her sides as pain rippled through her entire body.
Rebekah's smile widened, satisfaction clear in her eyes. "That's Enfever," she said coldly, her voice almost casual. "My bloodline's little gift. Feels like your insides are burning, doesn't it?"
Bonnie's screams filled the room, her body trembling as she tried to fight the pain. Damon struggled to his feet, his face contorted with anger and desperation as he looked between Rebekah and Bonnie.
"Let her go!" Damon snarled, taking a step toward Rebekah.
Rebekah didn't even glance at him. "Or what, Damon? You'll attack me again? Please, I'm almost insulted."
Alyssa stood to the side, watching the scene unfold. Her gaze lingered on Bonnie, a flicker of something unreadable crossing her face. "She's not going to last much longer," Alyssa said quietly, more to herself than anyone else.
Rebekah tilted her head, considering Alyssa's words. After a moment, she let out a small sigh and released her hold on Bonnie. The witch crumpled to the floor, gasping for air, tears streaming down her face.
"See? I'm not completely heartless," Rebekah said with a smirk, turning back to Damon. "Now, are we done playing games, or do I need to remind you all why I'm the last person you want to cross?"
