The Evolution of My Zombie Girlfriend

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: Melvin's Abilities

At this moment, as Mo Wen gazed upon Yu Lan, who struggled aimlessly without comprehension, a strange sense of relief washed over him. He was grateful that she remained unconscious; otherwise, the pain she would endure would be unbearable.

"Ow." Yu Lan tugged at Mo Wen's collar, emitting a short, raspy sound devoid of anger. It seemed she merely sought his attention.

"I'm here," Mo Wen replied with a smile, gently ruffling her hair.

For the remainder of the day, Mo Wen sat on the sofa, cradling Yu Lan in his arms while gazing out the window at the wandering zombies below. The quiet solitude brought him a rare moment of peace.

"Lan Lan," Mo Wen called softly when he noticed a Level 2 zombie tearing into the head of a Level 1 zombie downstairs. Recalling the Level 2 crystal nucleus he had obtained earlier, he reached into his pocket and handed it to her.

Yu Lan initially ignored him but perked up upon seeing the crystal nucleus. She took it hesitantly, yet did not consume it immediately.

Just as Mo Wen pondered her hesitation, Yu Lan abruptly tossed the crystal nucleus back at him, hitting his hand squarely.

Mo Wen paused, meeting only the dark back of Yu Lan's head. Was this her way of refusing? Understanding her silent refusal, Mo Wen did not press the matter. He gently placed the "rejected" Level 2 crystal nucleus away, a soft smile playing on his lips.

In truth, Mo Wen could have used this opportunity to absorb numerous crystal nuclei to enhance his own strength. He had been stagnating at Level 12 for nearly a year. Yet, gazing at the quiet, dazed Yu Lan in his arms, he felt an overwhelming desire to give her everything.

For now, all the crystal nuclei would go to Yu Lan first. Once her strength grew, he would tend to his own needs.

The next morning, Mo Wen awoke first. He gently hugged Yu Lan, who lay beside him, savoring the warmth and comfort of the moment. His dagger, strengthened by a gold-type ability user, showed no signs of dullness despite countless uses.

He put away his dagger and glanced toward the swirling sand in the distance. Suddenly, he dashed off at an incredible speed, leaping onto a wrecked car and observing the man on a motorcycle with a raised eyebrow.

The rider himself posed no threat, but the horde of zombies—hundreds strong—chasing after him was alarming. Dealing with them one by one would take hours, but Mo Wen longed to return to Yu Lan as soon as possible.

"Save me, save me!" Zhang Xin, blinded by sand, spotted Mo Wen and cried out for help. His voice barely carried above the wind, and the sand filled his mouth.

Coughing, Zhang Xin quickly closed his mouth, feeling a mix of relief and urgency. He accelerated towards Mo Wen, knowing that as a mere third-level ability user, falling into the mouths of so many zombies would mean certain death.

Mo Wen watched Zhang Xin approach and casually jumped off the car.

"You're a day late," Mo Wen's gentle voice sounded beside Zhang Xin, almost bringing tears to his eyes.

After crossing the perilous Death Zones 1, 2, and 3, narrowly escaping death multiple times, Zhang Xin had finally arrived only to hear that he was late?

And was this really the time to mention it?

Ignoring Zhang Xin's stunned expression, Mo Wen took a few steps forward and casually raised his hand. In an instant, a deep rumbling echoed from within and around Mo Wen's space. The swarm of zombies was instantly shredded into pieces, as if caught in a meat grinder.

While the disintegration of a single zombie might not be impressive, the sight of hundreds being torn apart simultaneously was both spectacular and terrifying. Blood and flesh flew everywhere, yet not a single wail escaped the zombies' throats.

Zhang Xin sat on his motorcycle, utterly amazed by the power before him. This level of strength could only belong to an advanced ability user of Level 10 or higher.

"Food," Mo Wen remarked casually. Having used his power, his need for sustenance had increased.

Upon hearing Mo Wen speak, Zhang Xin dared not hesitate, swiftly handing over a fresh loaf of bread from his spatial storage without even considering keeping the crystal nucleus.

"What else did you bring?" Mo Wen asked, elegantly tearing open the bread packaging and glancing at Zhang Xin.

Understanding Mo Wen's inquiry, Zhang Xin quickly explained, "I've brought food, water, a handgun, and several bullets."

As a traveling merchant, they never lacked for supplies, but becoming one required special qualifications. Only spatial ability users were capable of carrying large quantities of goods across dangerous territories.

"Very well," Mo Wen appeared satisfied with Zhang Xin's offerings.
