Chapter 10: Get Out Final
*On behalf of Chris*
Chris, standing at the door, saw this stranger, whom he didn't really know, look at him with a cold, insightful look, as if assessing what his life was worth. He felt vulnerable at that moment, but his inner voice persistently whispered that it was necessary to act. Mark was his only chance to save.
- What happened? - Chris said, gathering the remnants of courage.
Mark looked at him, his expression did not give away a single emotion. - Your relatives are dead.
These words sounded to Chris like somewhere in the background. He realized that they were no longer there, but at the same time there was a feeling inside him that he had lost something important.
- How did you do it? - he asked, his voice trembling with fear and misunderstanding.
- They were weak, - Mark replied indifferently. - I got rid of their insignificant essence.
His heart was pounding inside Chris. He understood that this power could become a blessing or a curse. As he knew, dealing with the heavy burden of family ties, what decision he would make himself now depended on him.
Chris tried to calm his mind, but the memories of the events were still bright before his eyes. He felt fear growing when he realized that his salvation came at the cost of his lives. Will he ever be able to forget that his own family wished him evil? And now how to go further after a stranger has done this terrible job?
- You shouldn't be afraid of me," he said when he saw Chris hesitate. - I saved you from the fear they brought. Now you are free.
Freedom. This word sounded like a melody in the falling melancholy of his life. But still, at that moment, Chris felt a mixture of relief and rage. He had the opportunity to start a new life, but he dreamed of normality, of all this being just a bad dream.
- Where should we go now? - Chris asked, interrupting his intentions.
- We're leaving here, - Mark turned to the exit, without losing a second. - This is not the place for you.
Chris followed him, feeling the darkness still hanging over their shoulders. He didn't know what was waiting for them outside this house, burdened with secrets and lies. But deep down he understood that he had a chance to start from scratch.
When they went outside, the cold light of the moon shed on the ground, as if saying goodbye to the horrors that happened in this family. Chris sighed heavily, feeling the air filling his lungs.
Suddenly he turned to Mark. - Thank you for saving me, - he said weakly.
Mark nodded, but there was no trace of emotions on his face. He looked into the darkness with the same cold determination as before.
- You don't have to thank me, - he said. - You survived yourself. Don't forget about it.
Chris felt a spark of hope lit in his soul. This stranger may not have been his friend, but he gave him freedom. As if the window opened to fresh air, dispersing the dark clouds that overshadowed his consciousness.
They were slowly moving towards the road. Light in the dark, at the beginning of life and new hope, was what has now become a moment of its reality. What will happen to them now - the question remained open, but Chris was no longer afraid.
- What am I going to do now? - he thought out loud, but more for himself.
- Start with yourself. Try to understand what's important to you," Mark advised, stopping to look at Chris. There is no warmth in his voice, but it was not superfluous. - Be strong.
Chris looked at Mark, his words reminded him that life now belongs to him alone. He doesn't owe anyone anything and won't assign feelings to those he once sought support from.
Something has changed in his life. No matter how much there was on the dark side, they shared the idea that freedom is not an ending path, but a daily struggle to stay alive in this world.
They went away from this sinister place. And although the darkness was still behind, Chris knew that he was walking towards a new life, free from fears, ridicule and shadows. Behind him was a story with a difficult fatal depth, but the path came to light, and he could only hope that the sinister memories would be left behind as long as he continued to build his future.
It was the beginning of a new path.
