Chapter 13
“Hmm.”
—Crush!
Exiting the lower levels where the Wyvern of the “Winged Dragon Dungeon” resided, Hoshi entered the deeper layers. He was now walking in a passage-like area just inside the deep layers.
“It’s a bit dark here.”
—Crack!
“Wait, wait lol”
“Talking leisurely while beating monsters lol”
“That’s hilarious lol”
“Your mood doesn’t match at all lol”
“Wait, monsters are attacking, right?”
Hoshi responds while looking at the comments.
“Yes, something’s been flying around since a while ago. Quite annoying. Shoo, shoo!”
—Splash!
He swats away the persistently hovering monsters. He’s done this numerous times already. These distractions have been quite bothersome.
“What’s with these things?”
He’s a bit curious because they’re so persistent and seem to emit a faint light. As he looks at a bird (?) he swatted down, the camera, sensing the mood, zooms in.
“Looks like a bat?”
It’s small, about the size of Melon, and pitch black. Its wings take up about half of its body, a somewhat ominous creature.
But some people in the comments seem to know what it is.
“Isn’t this a ‘Deep Layer Bat’?”
“The bat that exists only in the deep layers?”
“It’s an A-rank monster!”
“And they attack in large swarms.”
“They’re said to be more troublesome than some S-ranks.”
“Their wings are as tough as tank armor…”
“This one? Huh.”
“Huh lol”
“Doesn’t seem interested lol”
“Well, it’s just a common creature for Hoshi lol”
But then, a particular comment catches his eye.
“Their drop items sell for a lot.”
“What?!”
Monsters turn to dust and get absorbed by the dungeon when defeated, sometimes dropping items. Explorers make their living by selling these.
His mouth automatically responds.
“Which one? The wings? The tail?”
“The wings, I think.”
“Why the wings?”
“Their shiny, tough material has various uses. There are different colors too.”
“Thank you! Melon, Cotton Candy, let’s go back and collect!”
“Kyu…”
“Woof…”
“LOL”
“Suddenly interested lol”
“Wanted pocket money, huh lol”
“Cute”
“Typical high school student lol”
“Melon and Cotton Candy seem conflicted lol”
“Such a pragmatic master lol”
“Using the strongest kind for this lol”
While collecting a few drop items, he proceeded deeper into the dungeon.
Oh, and he properly collected the Wyvern’s drop items too.
★
“Wow”
Exiting the dark tunnel-like path, Hoshi and his companions finally reached a wider area.
“Ooh~”
“Kyu~”
“Woof~”
The three (one human and two pets) instinctively looked around.
The overall dim hall was just barely visible thanks to the floating camera. The surroundings were walled with what seemed like mud, extending upwards, reminiscent of an ancient colosseum.
“What’s that over there…”
Numerous holes dotted the walls, big enough for Melon to move in and out of.
“It’s like an arena.”
“Kind of creepy.”
“Feels eerie.”
“Dungeons are amazing.”
“Suddenly coming into a place like this.”
Viewers were also feeling uneasy. But something had been catching Hoshi’s attention for a while.
“Can I open that?”
In the center of the colosseum-like room sat a solitary, glowing “treasure chest.” It seemed to be beckoning to be opened.
Hoshi couldn’t contain his curiosity.
“Definitely not!”
“It’s surely a trap!”
“100% a trap!”
“Don’t do it!”
“It’s too suspicious!”
“Eh, really…”
“Disappointed lol”
“Sorry”
“Shobo-n”
“(´・ω・`)”
“Understood. You’re worried about me.”
Hoshi knew the comments weren’t malicious. He wasn’t familiar with the template of traps with treasure chests, but he took seriously the fact that 90% of the comments were saying “No.”
—Or so it seemed.
“But I’m opening it!”
Tip-toeing towards the chest, Hoshi couldn’t resist his curiosity and flung it open.
“Hey!”
“He did it”
“That’s bad!”
“Huh? —Whoa!?”
Suddenly, a huge tongue emerged from inside. Hoshi instinctively stepped back.
“What’s this!”
“—Eeeek!”
The chest, now gigantic, glared down at Hoshi with bulging eyes, sticking out a large tongue.
“A Treasure Mimic!?”
“It’s a Treasure Mimic!”
“I told you so!”
“That’s bad!”
Viewers, many of them explorers, began actively sharing information with Hoshi.
“A Treasure Mimic? Is it strong?”
“It varies by layer.”
“Then it’s bad, right?”
“This is the
S-rank deep layer.”
“A Treasure Mimic from this place…”
The “Treasure Mimic,” a malevolent monster hiding in treasure chests to attack those who open them. Its strength varies depending on its habitat.
This is the S-rank dungeon’s deep layer. It could be as strong, or stronger, than the Wyvern.
The Treasure Mimic shouted again, tongue extended.
“—Eeeek!”
“Kiiii!”
In response to its shriek, something started emerging from the numerous holes.
“What’s that!?”
Illuminating the dim upper area, Hoshi directed the camera upwards. Emerging from the holes were the “Deep Layer Bats” he had been swatting away. Each one was an A-rank nuisance.
“Ugh.”
They appeared in numbers enough to cover the upper area. Naturally, the gigantic Treasure Mimic was eyeing Hoshi and his team.
Before they knew it, they were surrounded.
“It’s like a monster house!”
“That’s bad!!”
“Even for this number…”
“Darkness is a disadvantage!”
“The bats can probably see in the dark!”
“Please, run!”
The comments began to panic. However, Hoshi wore a mischievous smile, his expression boyishly innocent.
“Melon, Cotton Candy.”
“Kyu?”
“Woof?”
“Shall we see who can make the most impact?”
“Eh”
“What?”
“What’s he talking about?”
“Not the time for jokes…?”
Even in this situation, Hoshi was still smiling, not just joking around but genuinely enjoying himself.
And the two strongest pets, belonging to such an owner, couldn’t resist joining in.
“Roar!”
“Howl!”
As if saying they were ready, both pets grew gigantic, eagerly awaiting Hoshi’s signal.
“Really doing this!?”
“Since we’re here, let’s support!”
“If we’re surrounded, fight!”
“If you can’t escape, beat them!”
“Hehe!”
Grinning at the supportive comments, Hoshi saw the viewer count was 250,000. It was probably the peak moment.
“Let’s start!”
“Woof!”
As Hoshi signaled, Cotton Candy vanished. No, it darted off.
Then, moving at a speed that seemed like cloning. It was the “Cotton Candy Rush” from the previous fight.
“Roar!”
“Wow!”
“Cotton Candy Rush!”
“Here it comes!”
“So fast!”
“More than before!?”
“First time here, but amazing!”
The comments erupted at the sudden display of the special move. Viewers who hadn’t seen it before were especially excited by the speed.
“Huhu, that’s your move, Cotton Candy.”
Meanwhile, Hoshi crossed his arms, nodding approvingly, his smile mischievous, slightly tinged with adolescent fantasies.
“Now, my turn.”
“?”
“Eh?”
“My turn?”
Ignoring the puzzled comments, Hoshi disappeared. No, he leaped upward, even faster than Cotton Candy.
“Here I gooooo!”
“!?”
“Whoa!?”
“Hoshi cloned himself!?”
“Is this it!?”
“Like Cotton Candy!?”
“No!”
“Even more!”
The phenomenon of looking like clones due to high-speed movement. Hoshi moved even faster, creating the illusion of about thirty clones.
“Kiiii!”
Engulfed by Hoshi’s clones, the A-rank monsters, Deep Layer Bats, fluttered like moths before falling defeated. These bats, when defeated, possess the unique trait of emitting light. The floating camera vividly captured Hoshi’s overwhelming prowess from below.
And what followed was extraordinary.
“What is this…”
“So beautiful…”
“Is this real…?”
“Didn’t know this could happen…”
In the dimly lit hall, where the upper areas were hard to see, numerous points of light began to appear. It was like a beautiful starry sky, unobstructed by anything, a fantastical night sky akin to gazing at the Milky Way.
A viewer made a connection with Hoshi and the current situation, commenting:
“Star Rush.”
“Take this!!!”
Before he knew it, Hoshi had defeated all the Deep Layer Bats. The annoying noise ceased, and the camera showed only the fantastical starry sky.
“Wow!!!”
“Star Rush!!”
“Star Rush is the strongest!”
“What an amazing sight!”
“So beautiful!”
“Incredibly magical~!”
While in the air, Hoshi hadn’t been able to see the comments. Landing, he realized what was happening.
(They’ve given me such a cute name…)
Hoshi, slightly embarrassed, covered his face with his hand. His attention naturally turned to Cotton Candy.
“So this is how you felt.”
“Woof.”
Originally, the ‘Rush’ was a technique name he had coined. Feeling a bit guilty, he gently petted Cotton Candy.
“Star Rush is cute.”
“Love it!”
“Perfect for Hoshi-kun.”
“It was beautiful.”
“Very Hoshi-kun-like lol.”
“Is that so?”
Hoshi, flattered by the praise, didn’t seem to mind.
“So, what now?”
He turned around to face the Treasure Mimic.
“What are you gonna do?”
“Yeeek!”
“Ah!”
However, the Treasure Mimic started to flee.
It seemed that it thought of Hoshi as the monster. Many viewers probably interpreted its last sound as one of fear.
“It’s running away lol”
“Treasure Mimic on the run! lol”
“So flustered lol”
“It thinks Hoshi’s the monster lol”
“Hoshi’s too strong lol”
“Kind of relieved~”
“Guess it couldn’t win after all lol”
“Ah, come on. Melon?”
“Roar…”
“What’s wrong?”
Amidst all this, Melon whined sadly. Hoshi had a hunch about the reason.
“Ah, were you waiting to fight the Treasure Mimic?”
“Groan…”
“Haha, you’re cute. There, there.”
Melon had been sitting patiently, probably thinking its moment would come with the Treasure Mimic.
“No turn after all lol”
“Hoshi and Cotton Candy finished it lol”
“Melon waiting is cute lol”
“Groan…”
“Hahaha. Oh, what’s this?”
Spotting an item dropped where the Treasure Mimic had been, Hoshi curiously muttered.
“…A pocket watch?”
