Chapter 205: Luck
Qibao said: "Grandpa, you always say this. If it happens again, I'm bringing you home, and someone else will take care of the winery."
Hearing this, Old Man Lin panicked and immediately promised: "Qibao, you can't do that! Besides you, the winery is what I care about most. If you won't let me work, aren't you taking my life? Grandpa guarantees there won't be a next time."
"Okay." Qibao replied: "Then I'll trust Grandpa one more time."
The nearby women working chuckled, and one said: "Uncle Lin, how many times have we told you? You just wouldn't listen. Now that Qibao has said it, are you going to follow her lead?"
Smiling, Qibao added: "Dear aunties, please help me keep an eye on him. Grandpa is getting on in years, and these tasks are too much for him."
"Qibao, don't worry! We'll watch over Uncle Lin for you, and he definitely won't do any more heavy work!"
Qibao nodded with a grin. Old Man Lin seemed resigned.
After staying a while at the winery, Qibao returned to the Xu family residence.
Fuqiu said: "Miss, where have you been? You disappeared as soon as I turned around."
Qibao replied: "It's fine, I went out for a while after dinner."
Mrs. Wang said: "Your big brother and the others will probably come back tomorrow for the vacation, so I'll have to prepare some of their favorite food for your big brother to replenish his memory."
It had been half a month since Qibao last saw her eldest brother and the others. Her brother had been solely focused on his studies.
The second brother was learning commerce while attending the academy.
The third brother's drawing skills had improved rapidly in the past few years. Qibao felt he didn't need guidance, he'd have to hone his skills on his own in the future.
As for the fourth brother, no one knew why he seldom spoke. Few could guess what he was thinking. Despite his good grades, he refused to take the imperial exams. The school's headmaster had even come to speak with the grandpa about this.
The fifth brother remained the same as always, spending more time studying than training. He would practice his lightness technique tirelessly, often pushing himself to the limit.
As for the sixth brother, Qibao hadn't discovered his interests yet. She only knew he liked all sorts of delicious food.
Although their hobbies differed, they never neglected their martial training. With their current abilities, they could easily defend themselves.
Thanks to the time manipulation cheat and Xiaoling's personal guidance, the Twelve Guard members had become quite skilled.
Currently, Qibao didn't worry about the Xu family's safety as much as before.
The next evening, as expected, all five brothers returned from town.
Eldest brother now seemed more mature and steady, with a gentle smile that made him look like a refined young man.
Although the second brother is a twin of the eldest brother and looks alike, his personality is completely different from that of the eldest brother. Maybe it is because he studied business, he looks more shrewd.
Xiaowu was the first to run to Qibao, rubbed her head, and asked: "Sister, have you missed Fifth Brother?"
Qibao grabbed his hand, saying: ""No!"
"You ungrateful! I even brought you a gift!" Xiaowu pulled out a silver bracelet with two beautiful jade stones set in it.
Qibao, before her brother could react, snatched the bracelet and put it on her wrist.
"Thank you, Fifth Brother, I love it." Qibao smiled.
Xiaowu touched his nose and asked: "Sister, how did you practice? I've tried my best, but why am I not as fast as you?"
Qibao replied: "Fifth brother, don't compare yourself with me, you will feel inferior!"
"I don't feel inferior, sister is better than me, I can't be happier!" Xiaowu said.
The old man said with his hands behind his back: "You're back, come inside and talk!"
"Yes, Grandpa."
Once they were seated in the main house, the old man asked: "Wenwu, has your tutor mentioned when you'll be leaving for Qingyun City?"
Xu Wenwu said: "The Master said we will set out in mid-September and find a place to stay there first."
The old man nodded and continued: "Everything has been arranged at home. Qibao and I will take your parents to Qingyun City."
Xu Wenwu responed: "I'll follow Grandpa's plans."
The elder then turned to Qian Xuedong: "And Xuedong, you can stay with us when the time comes. We'll have a place for you."
Qian Xuedong nodded. He wasn't very confident, he'd ranked eighteenth when he took the xiucai exam. The competition for juren would be far more intense than for xiucai. Still, no matter the outcome, he wanted to experience the atmosphere. Even if he didn't pass this time, it wouldn't be a big deal.
The old man continued: "You have about ten days to prepare. Have your book attendants pack everything you'll need for the trip to the city. Don't leave it all for last minute."
"Got it, Grandpa."
Mrs. Wang interrupted: "Old man, stop talking and let the children eat!"
At the dinner table, the adults would not discuss anything related to studies, but only discuss family matters.
Later that night, Qibao lay in bed. Suddenly she felt something amiss and realized, with a touch of exasperation, that it was probably her Fifth Brother again—unable to sleep, out practicing his qinggong once more.
After who knows how long, as Qibao drifted in and out of slumber, she heard faint knocks at the door.
She got up to open it, finding her Fifth Brother standing outside, arms full of grass.
Qibao asked: "Fifth Brother, why aren't you asleep yet?"
Little Wu replied: "Sister, look at this. I found it on the ground."
Qibao looked down and saw a tiny, featherless bird lying among the grass. Its eyes were closed, and it seemed just hatched.
Qibao asked: "Fifth brother, you didn't go to rob a bird's nest, did you?"
Xiaowu exclaimed: "No, I picked it up on the ground, and I don't see any bird's nests in the nearby trees, so I don't know how it ended up on the ground."
The bird was barely breathing.
Xiaowu exclaimed: "Sister, is this bird dying? How about feeding it a sip of spiritual water?"
Qibao took the bird and said: "Alright, you go back to sleep! Just give me the bird."
Xiaowu nodded, yawned, and went back to his room.
Qibao was speechless as she was woken up from her good sleep. If she was a person who got grumpy when waking up, Fifth Brother would probably have been beaten to a pulp by now.
Qibao looked at the little red ball in her palm and had no choice but to bring it into the space.
"Xiaoling, I'm leaving this bird to you. See if you can save it."
"Whenever you have something to do, you think of me. Master, you are such a snob!" Xiaoling sat on Big Bear's shoulders, eating grapes and talking leisurely.
Xiong Da and Xiong Er didn't know why, but in the past two years they had grown enormously, more than three meters tall. Xiaoling said it was because they drank too much spiritual water and their genes had changed.
Qibao said: "You ate a lot of the food I brought in, didn't you? Stop talking nonsense and go see if you can save this bird."
Xiaoling glanced at the ball of flesh in Qibao's palm.
"Huh? Bring it here and let me see it."
Xiaoling stretched out a claw and picked at the little ball of flesh in Qibao's hand.
Qibao was speechless and said: "If you keep poking it like that, you'll kill the bird."
Xiaoling replied: "What a lack of understanding! Is this a bird? It's an eagle!"
Qibao exclaimed: "A newly hatched eagle should be much larger than this, and its head doesn't look right!"
Xiaoling insisted: "I'm sure about this, and it's no ordinary eagle."
Qibao explained: "Fifth Brother found it when he was out."
Xiaoling commented: "What luck! Once this eagle grows up, it could easily fly a thousand miles a day. Its speed will be extraordinary!"
