Chapter 10: Classic Tactics
As soon as the match began, Takeda Yoshiharu didn't waste any time on pleasantries. Facing such a rude opponent, he responded sharply, "Is just running your mouth really interesting? So what if you've awakened the Sharingan? It's only a one-tomoe Sharingan. What's there to be arrogant about? Show me what you've got when you awaken it to three tomoes!"
This statement instantly provoked Uchiha Motofumi, as it hit a sore spot. Motofumi was a nearly thirty-year-old member of the Uchiha clan. He still had the potential to awaken further, but in his heart, having already retreated somewhat, he had given up on that prospect.
Six years ago, Uchiha Motofumi had been a promising young talent. As a member of the Uchiha who had already awakened his Sharingan, he had been very fortunate. But six long years had passed. No matter how much he trained or how fiercely he fought during missions, he had never progressed to the two-tomoe level again. He had lost hope.
From then on, the once-promising young man was gone, replaced by resentment towards those talented youngsters who could easily reach levels he no longer dared to aspire to. So, when he learned about the so-called genius Takeda Yoshiharu preparing for the Genin exam, Motofumi's heart began to concoct some plans.
So, with both of them glaring fiercely at each other, the Third Hokage entered the scene. He simply announced the rules of the match, advising everyone to avoid any casualties.
Having already calculated in his mind, Takeda Yoshiharu knew this would be his debut match! With so many Jōnin watching, and his confidence bolstered by the Third Hokage, he planned to use a classic tactic to quickly finish things.
According to Uchiha clan norms, if they could use ninjutsu, it would inevitably be a Fire Release technique. Uchiha Motofumi was no exception. As he had already received information about Takeda Yoshiharu, he was aware that the C-rank Fire Release: Phoenix Fire Technique would not be effective against him. But what if he used a C+-rank technique?
With the hand seals completed, Uchiha Motofumi launched three shuriken at Takeda Yoshiharu, who seemed caught off guard. These weren't wooden shuriken; they were real iron shuriken meant to seriously injure enemies.
Takeda Yoshiharu didn't dare be careless; he could see the malicious intent in Motofumi's eyes. He instinctively knew that these shuriken wouldn't be easy to handle.
With a series of "thuds," two shuriken struck Takeda Yoshiharu, who was unable to dodge in time. Just as Motofumi was about to unleash another brutal attack, suddenly another Takeda Yoshiharu appeared in front of him, followed by three more shuriken.
In that split second, Motofumi smiled smugly. "Snake - Horse - Monkey - Boar - Horse - Tiger, Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique!" A fireball, two meters in diameter, hurtled toward Takeda Yoshiharu, radiating overwhelming heat.
"Tiger - Ox - Dragon - Rooster - Dragon - Horse, Water Release: Water Surge Technique!" Having only this one water technique at his disposal, Takeda Yoshiharu unleashed it.
Water and fire collided fiercely, producing a loud "hiss." At the point of intersection, a large cloud of steam erupted, and from the steam, two shuriken flew toward Motofumi.
"Out of tricks, huh?" Motofumi scoffed, easily dodging the two shuriken. Just as he turned to launch his big attack, cold sweat broke out on his forehead as it hit him: "How did he get behind me?" At that moment, Takeda Yoshiharu held a shuriken, its sharp edge pressed against Motofumi's neck.
"Can I take this assessment as passed?" His innocent young voice echoed throughout the training hall. Even the Jōnin on the second floor couldn't help but applaud for Takeda Yoshiharu.
Though in their eyes, this battle seemed like child's play, the fact that the weaker Takeda Yoshiharu could devise a counter-strategy so quickly impressed them.
They saw everything clearly from the beginning. From Takeda's initial shuriken throwing to the moment the water mist appeared, leading to his transformation and clone techniques. One had to admit that among Genin, Takeda Yoshiharu's proficiency with Clone Techniques was top-notch.
Just then, Uchiha Motofumi, feeling unwilling to concede, was overwhelmed by a surge of killing intent. He swiftly raised his right foot and turned to kick out fiercely, channeling chakra into his right leg.
Even Orochimaru, acting as the referee, was momentarily shocked. Fortunately, the Golden Bell Defense had been in constant operation within Takeda Yoshiharu's body. Takeda Yoshiharu also felt his temper flaring and countered with a mighty punch toward Motofumi's right leg.
To everyone's astonishment, the scene they expected, where six-year-old Takeda Yoshiharu would be severely injured by the kick, did not occur. Instead, it was Motofumi who was sent flying backwards, crashing into a wall 20 meters away from the fighting area.
In that life-and-death moment, Takeda Yoshiharu did not hold back. He threw his punches with all his strength, surpassing even his own expectations regarding his destructive power.
Upon examining his uninjured right hand, Takeda Yoshiharu feigned innocence and scratched his head, saying something that left everyone both amused and speechless, "Um, I hope I'm not responsible for that?"
On the central balcony, the Third Hokage let out a sigh of relief. Just as he brought his pipe to his lips, ready to enjoy a puff, Takeda Yoshiharu's unintended remark made him choke.
The sudden coughing drew everyone's attention. After the Third waved his hand to indicate he was fine, their eyes returned to Takeda Yoshiharu.
The Third Hokage's voice rang out decisively: "Takeda Yoshiharu passes the assessment and is hereby granted the title of Genin, along with his headband." After finishing, he walked away. Unfortunately, at that moment, Takeda Yoshiharu was already immersed in the system, having long coveted the Little Li Flying Dagger.
Though it was just the basic version, it was already the most lethal technique available to him at this stage.
