The hymn of vivshi

Chapter 101: Don’t cry Serenity

Dots appeared on the ground as sweat dripped down from Zyo's face. Everyone was standing still like a statue frozen in time.

"Remember what is at stake Dexterity."

Zyo breathed a sigh of relief as Freedom turned away from her and shifted his gaze towards Devina.

Aylin stood silently not saying anything but it seemed like Freedom didn't mind her at all. As if she didn't exist in his world.

Devina raised both of her hands in defeat and sat down.

"I assume you won't kill me?"

The air filled with laughter as Freedom laughed by himself. He then crouched in front of Devina and placed his hand in front of her chest.

In an instant, she swatted his hand as if it were an annoying mosquito trying to bite her at night.

Freedom's cheeks got dimples as he finished analyzing Devina. He was brimming with joy, sneering cheek to cheek.

"So those are your aspirations."

Trembling in the corner of the building, Sekito observed everything that unfolded.

"Then there is you. Serenity, oh Serenity how long ago was it since we met in the aeonic realm?"

Devina warned Freedom if he hurt Sekito, she wouldn't cooperate.

"Sekito… the human, I care not for such simplicity."

Hastily walked towards Sekito who was still sitting there. She was trembling but she tried to remain as calm as possible.

"Come out, old friend."

"Freedom if you touch her our dea…"

Right as his hand was about to pierce her chest Freedom froze. A silver glow emanated from him.

Freedom twitched trying to move but to no avail.

"Is this one of your tricks, Dexterity?"

"The sword has a will of its own. As long as it is inside of you, it will do anything to prevent you from causing harm."

Freedom's body started to shake vigorously. You could feel the vibrations through the floor. The amount of power coursing through the air makes Zyo gag.

"The Aeonic realm never allowed you to exist for a reason Freedom. Your sole existence spread discord amongst the Aeons."

Devina tapped on Sekito's shoulder.

"It's time sis."

Freedom took steps forward in slow motion, constantly being frozen by the silver.

The silver sword prevented Freedom's movements which disabled the Aeon nullification effect. Seizing this opportunity, the two sisters would make use of their final option.

"Sis you better tell me everything later. Stupid idiot."

Devina looked hesitantly at her, but after a second, a bittersweet smile was drawn on her face.

"Aeon acclimation. Activate, connaissance de i'inconnu."

"Aeon acclimation. Spring forth, hunting tales of the deceased."

The both of them held their hands together and their flower's roots extended towards their hands and finally, the roots interwined.

"Aeon acclimation. Charge, contempt of life."

The flowers on the cheeks lit up the same colour. Everyone got transported to another dimension.

It was a court of some sort. There was a giant scale in the middle of the court. The whole room was decked out with luxurious marbling and fine oak wood. Across the roof were glittering crystal lights. Lights pointed towards Devina and Sekito who stood across the room from Freedom.

"Freedom, the accused you are being charged with disturbance of balance."

The lights then shifted towards the middle of the court.

"Victims of the change please step forward."

One person stepped forward.

"I Hectima, hero of Nautilus and former owner of the Aeon of Ember, I swear under under guidance of Dexterity I will bring the truth."

After Hectima gave his statement. The next person came up. Next. Next. It continued for what seemed countless hours.

Continuing, Aeon of Dexterity presented information about Freedom and all the crimes he had committed.

"What does the Aeon of Freedom have to say to defend himself?"

"Nothing." He grinned while rubbing his chin.

"Then I judge of this court, rule you guilty of contempt of balance."

The court broke apart, shattering into bits. The crystal lamps fell and the wood split.

Everyone was submerged as water filled the court. Chains from the ground pinned down Freedom to the ground. They guided him towards a guillotine.

"Then I, Sekito Sakaranai hereby declare, the death penalty to the Aeon of Freedom."

Freedom's head was set into a hemlock. The blade above his head shone in the water. Ready to kill a god.

The chain of Serenity was cut and the blade descended towards Freedom's head.

Nearing the moment of decapitation, the silver sword from Freedom's back was ejected and shattered the blade that was coming down on him.

"This is Vivshi's body. I relinquished my control over his body. YOU HAVE CONVICTED THE WRONG PERSON!"

The silver sword that will always protect Vivshi…

Devina sighed and shook her head. Sekito snapped her fingers and the next stage commenced.

Freedom retook control of Vivshi's body but now the blade had exited his body…

"Pesky Aeons. Grovel at my freedom."

Freedom's gaze turned towards Sekito as she was the one who halted his movement. Sekito's and Devina's Acclimation shattered as it came into contact with Freedom's power. Transporting them back onto the building.

"I will start with you."

He reached his hand towards Sekito, but instantly as they were transported back the silver sword thrust itself into Freedom's chest freezing his powers again.

"This damn blade."

The sky seemed awfully beautiful today. There is a saying, that the closer you get to death, the more beautiful life gets. The world was beautiful in Devina's eyes, never once did she see this before.

Was it because of how desperate she was? Or was it because she knew she had won?

"Sister."

"What's wrong?"

"I might not be able to hold your promise. Sorry Sister."

"What the hell do you mean?"

"I promise I will tell you one day. Can you promise that you will stay until that day?"

"Mhm, I promise." With one final nod from Sekito.

"Aeon acclimation. Seek out, dernier voyage."

Sekito didn't know what to think. A new acclimation? A second act? A bluff? As she tried to process it and react properly, it was too late.

"Hundreds of years can pass, but you will always be my beloved Sister. See you for now Sekito."

With guilty and deliberate steps, Devina walked forward towards the end. The end of her journey of seeking freedom.

"Sorry, Vivshi. For being selfish once again."

She touched Freedom's chest, her delicate fingertips slowly turned into silver. Her ocean blue eyes connected with the abyssal purple of Freedom's.

Freedom had this condescending look at her before laughing.

"So be it Dexterity, so this was your plan all along. Your so-called final gift to Vivshi?"

Her golden blonde hair could be seen swaying. Sekito saw how her little sister reached out her hand towards Freedom's cheek and gently brushed her frozen tips against it.

"Activate."

Her body glowed yellow. In Sekito's eyes, Devina was always a star, a little too bright star. There was one thing she remembered Devina saying.

"The brightest stars always die first."

As golden dust flaked off Devina's skin. She turned towards her older sister one more time.

A genuine smile.

Sekito got goosebumps as she saw the finale. The final act her sister had committed centuries for.

"You… planned this from the moment Freedom was born."

That expression, she has never seen Devina have in her entire life. As the Aeon of Serenity, she could always see the emotions of others.

But never once in 4000 years, did she see her sister truly happy. As the older sister, she always hated herself whenever she saw her little sister's fake smile. Those expressions on her face weren't genuine.

Sekito didn't know how to help and just continued to take care of her little sister.

"I never realized… Devina… please…"

Devina slowly shook her head.

Droplets from the sky descended upon the city of Nautilus. Beads of Serenity that were the essence of human tranquillity fell upon the earth. Wasted on the ground. The people who touched the raindroplets felt an overwhelming sense of serenity but also an overwhelming sense of sorrow. That day would never be forgotten as it was named the day of the crying god.

Her small delicate body transformed into dust. The remains of Devina's body scattered into the wind and flew far far away.

All of her small gadgets and tools dropped onto the floor as her body vanished.

The sword merged back into Vivshi's body as Freedom vanished from Vivshi's body. Vivshi fell onto his back and lay quietly in the rain.

Aylin who had been excluded from the trial and had been standing there the entire time couldn't comprehend what just happened.

Ignoring the fact that Devina had just vanished right before her eyes she ran up towards Vivshi's unconscious body.

"Sekito we gotta go! Sekito?"

Sekito who stood still in the rain couldn't hear Aylin's words. She fell onto her knees and sat there staring at the gadgets left behind by Devina.

Aylin hurried up and threw Vivshi onto her back before carrying him back to the hotel where Emovi was.

Before heading back, she took one final look at Sekito and thought it would be better to leave her there. In her mind, Sekito and Devina could have prevented this in the first place. She blamed Devina for letting Vivshi become that monstrosity again. All the torture Devina and Sekito had put him through.

Even though it was Sekito that saved her in the past. She looked back one more time at Sekito still sitting there in the rain.

With one final thought, she decided to go.

Sekito heard water splashing as someone near her. She looked up and saw the same little girl that she had once rescued years ago carrying Vivshi on her back.

"Aylin… I have one last thing to ask you."

As Sekito told Aylin what to do, Aylin hurriedly picked up all the gadgets on the ground and handed them to Sekito.

"Thank you."

Devina's gadgets were in safe hands, they were being cradled in Sekito's arms as if they were a baby.

Aylin returned to Vivshi and carried him back to the hotel.

"Devina…"

A deep sigh.

"Serenity, Serenity, don't cry. Serenity, Serenity, don't cry," a mysterious voice called out to Sekito.

"I can't be happier knowing that you were happy…"

She hugged those silly gadgets in her arms tightly. As she hugged them, a note fell out of a machine Devina had. It got drenched in the rain but Sekito was still able to hold it up.

"To the one who reads this, I wish for you to know I am happy. Throughout my life, I had everything. A loving sister, with smarts, money, and everything. What more could I've asked for? But every day I woke up, I never saw the value in my life, it was as if I had forgotten how to live. I didn't know what was keeping me alive anymore. Even with the brain power of Dexterity, I couldn't figure out one thing, why was I alive? I realized then I had lost my purpose. I lost everything I had to protect. I was just alive for the sake of it. My emotions slowly dulled. It felt like torture living day by day, trying to find the answer. For thousands of years, I bore the pain of existing against my will, for what? To experience something I would never get to experience.

But the day the Aeon of Freedom was born into this world I knew that it was the answer I had been seeking for all this time. I found a purpose, something I could give.

I wanted to also experience freedom after thousands of years of solitude. You could see this as my final selfish wish but to the one reading this, tell the Aeon of Serenity that Dexterity will always love her."

~ Aeon of Dexterity, Devina.
