Chapter 31: Chapter 30
Isamu walked through the desolate and bloody streets of Shibuya, his pace steady and his gaze sharp. He'd left the others to their own devices. Was it the smartest move? No, probably not. But for some reason, Isamu felt so good he didn't really care.
Isamu had never done any drugs in his life time. But his current state was what he imagined drugs felt like. Like he was high. Colors, as rare as they were in the destroyed city, were vibrant. The cursed energy in the air seemed to sway around him like a cool breeze on a summer day, refreshing him.
His bare chest was chilled by the cold night air, the sound of a haunting howl swept through the city as the wind blew through the destroyed buildings. But after a bit, the sound was replaced by another, of footsteps and blades being drawn.
A rope appeared out of nowhere and wrapped around his right wrist, yanking it up. At the same time, a Ninja looking dude, dressed in all white with a thick vail covering his face rushed Isamu, an 8 inch dagger in hand. Before the man could plunge his dagger into Isamu's unprotected right side, Isamu's left hand whipped out and caught the man's hand.
But at the same moment, another similarly dressed man leaped out from an alley to Isamu's left, another dagger being thrust towards Isamu's left side. Before it could complete its journey into Isamu's kidney, Isamu pulled himself into the air using the rope restricting his right arm.
Isamu yanked the first attackers sword hand so fast and hard that the man was unable to even registered the action before he'd already stabbed himself through the throat. Isamu spun in the air like a trained acrobat, using the rope as a means to maneuver.
He lashed out with his foot, striking the other man so hard his head snapped around in a complete 180 turn, shattering his C2 vertebrae in an instant. Isamu unsheathed Maya from his left hip and cut the rope before falling back to the ground gracefully, a few splattering's of blood across his chest.
Before Isamu could cut some cloth from his attackers cloths to wipe way the blood with, more ropes came from nowhere, wrapping around both of his arms. It seemed the rope wasn't one of the ninja's techniques. Right after the ropes pulled themselves tot, a girl ran from behind a flipped over car nearby, aiming her phone at him like she was about to take a picture.
"This is for Larue!! Die!" The girl screamed, holding her phone in both hands.
"Kill her." Isamu said calmly. Before the girl could even press the button to take the picture, whatever it would've done, her throat and forehead were pierced by the 8 inch blades used by the recently deceased men in white, killing her instantly.
"No!! Nanako!!!" Isamu heard from above. Shifting his eyes lazily, he found another school girl, this one with a black bowl cut instead of a blond ponytail like the other girl. Judging by the rope in her hands, it was probably her technique Isamu was being wrapped up by.
"Crash." Not giving it another thought as the ropes disappeared, Isamu walked away from the scene as the girl who was standing on the 3rd story of the building crashed through the side of the glass skyscraper, leaving a bloody trail all the way down.
"Wha-" another woman appeared from around the corner, a blade in hand. It seemed she was the backup incase their plan, whoever these people were, went wrong. A purple mist began to fill the air but Isamu didn't give it any time to active.
It didn't matter that he didn't know what the techniques did if he was so much stronger than his opponents he could just kill its user before they did anything. Faster than she could perceive, Isamu's overflowing presence appeared before her.
"Wait I-" before she could finish, Isamu snapped her neck. For some reason, the kill count he was quickly increasing didn't both him. He knew that normally he wouldn't what to kill them, he would try to defeat them non lethally, the two girls at least.
But when in the flow state granted to him by black flash stacked onto whatever sensation he was feeling after awakening reverse cursed technique, Isamu didn't see anything as mattering. Like he was completely detached from the world, in his own little universe where only he mattered.
Walking away, passing the bloody corpse of the girl with the phone, Isamu felt an odd energy. One of pure malice originating from the girl. Was she becoming a vengeful spirit? Sorcerers could become a cursed spirit if they were killed with something other than cursed energy but the knife's had been infused with his cursed energy when he commanded them.
That's what happened with everything he commanded that wasn't living. Otherwise, him commanding spikes to impale a cursed spirit would be a waste of energy as only things infused with cursed energy could damage curses. That is to say, it was impossible for the girl to transform into a curse. So what was it?
Walking up to the girl and patting her down with the back of his hands, Isamu found a bump in her pocket. Isamu's eyes widened a bit, even with the flow state putting a damper on his emotions, shock still leaked through as he examined the withered, red finger. 1 of the 20 fingers of Ryomen Sukuna, the king of curses, the strongest sorcerer in history.
——
Jogo regenerated his arm for what felt like the hundredth time since being ambushed by the man with the black eyes. Fighting him was like fighting an unrelenting force of nature. Like fighting a beast that turned into a specter right when you think it has over extended.
The thought of a human with no cursed energy being such a threat would've made the Jogo of 20 minutes ago laugh before roasting you to death for such a stupid and insulting claim. But now no one was laughing.
Every time Jogo attacked, the man would dodge in a burst of speed so astonishing Jogo had trouble keeping an eye on him. As a result, Jogo had barely damaged him. Every attack he did land was minor and only because he'd cornered him with many attacks or had to trade injuries for damage.
As things stood, it was a tie. Jogo was unable to do serious damage as was he. Jogo remembered seeing the machete on one of the curse users Geto hired to help seal Saturo Gojo. It wasn't powerful, not nearly powerful enough to land any killing blows.
Jogo would have to break the tool, use his domain expansion, or run him out and hope the occasional attack would wear him down. Jogo could heal, he could not after all. Jogo was hesitant to try the 2nd or 3rd idea however. He wasn't Saturo Gojo or Ryomen Sukuna. He didn't have seemingly endless amounts of cursed energy.
Sure, he had a lot, but entering into a battle of initiation or using his domain would affect his ability to contribute to the rest of the massacre. Plan A it was.
——
Isamu disregarded the question of how the girl came to own such a powerful cursed object in favor of asking himself why she had it and why she would bring it to shibuya.
A finger of Sukuna only had a few uses. To feed to a curse as a form of empowerment, to use as bait to attract curses, to feed to a human in hopes of awakening the soul of the strongest sorcerer in history in a new vessel, and feeding it to an already existing vessel.
Due to the groups status as humans, Isamu crossed of the first two uses off his mental list. And with Yuji already having ingested 5 of Sukuna's fingers, a new vessel would have to eat 6 or more in order to draw Sukuna's soul into themselves so Isamu crossed that off too. Which just left feeding it to the only existing vessel, Yuji Itadori.
But why would they want to do that? Isamu guessed the group were followers of Geto, considering Geto was behind this attack and the name the girl had called out. The only people Isamu had ever killed was the assassin hired by the Inumaki clan, the one delivering said assassins payment, and the two cursed users that'd attacked him during the parade of a hundred demons.
The entire Inumaki clan had been wiped out and no one would be able to find out he was the one to kill the assassin so Isamu didn't think it was either of their names. Which just left the two members of Geto's band he'd killed. So these were probably members of Geto's family who'd helped him with the attack on Shibuya whose side mission was to get revenge for their dead friends.
If Isamu took that theory as a fact, could he figure out why they would want to feed the finger to Yuji? Maybe. The only thing he could think of was that they wanted to revive Sukuna in hopes he would slaughter anyone around him, including non sorcerers which Geto wanted to eradicate.
But that seemed unlikely. Geto was too smart, and in all honesty proud, to use that kind of tactic. Isamu also doubted the two young girls would be so willing to throw away their lives like that. So why else would they want to revive Sukuna?
Did they want him to kill Gojo? Maybe make a pact with him to spare their lives in exchange for something? But if this was the only finger they had, Sukuna would only be revived as 30% of his full power. That probably wouldn't be enough to defeat Gojo.
Did they even want to revive Sukuna? Maybe they just wanted to speed up Sukuna's death by feeding him more fingers. But if that's the case, why seal Gojo now? Why not wait for Gojo to collect all of Sukuna's fingers, feed them to Yuji, kill Sukuna, then enact their plans to seal Gojo? It'd be a lot easier on their part.
Isamu decided to look from this situation simply. What was Sukuna? A powerful sorcerer sure to win any battle now that Gojo was sealed. Why would you want someone powerful around? To kill someone else powerful, someone that's not Gojo since he's been taken care of.
Who in Shibuya is powerful enough to warrant the revival of Sukuna to take care of? The only one that came to Isamu's mind was Geto. Did they seriously want to betray him?
——
Earth and stone bulged and broke as many miniature volcanoes, each the size of a small car, were created by Jogo's cursed technique. Each fired lava into the air as large bugs with human mouths and eyes and a large spike on the front of its head darted through the air all in an attempt to catch the man in white.
He leapt, ducked, dashed, pivoted, and ran as he dodged each fire blast, lava shot, spiked insect, everything. Somehow he used the very air itself as a foot hold, giving him access to all three dimensions as he came out of the flurry of attacks unscathed.
He dashed up at the curse, who was flying through the air with the help of his instincts, with a crazed look in his eyes and a large grin.
Jogo threw both arms out as he conjured a fire ball before shooting out a blast of cursed energy infused flames, sourcing the ground below. The smoke created shifted as the man ducked out of it, a small burn on his right arm but otherwise unscathed.
The insects clinging onto Jogo's cloths let go of him before flying towards the man, letting Jogo drop to the ground. The insects were all cut down in a single clean cut. The insects' rapidly disappearing bodies were consumed by flame as Jogo sent yet another attack at the man as he fell.
Jogo landed with ease before quickly summoning more insects while scanning the area. Walking around the corner of a nearby building, the man made himself known. Jogo growled in annoyance as he raised his hand once more.
The man dodged the resulting fire blast and move out of the way, only to be met with a mini volcano shooting out lava right where he was about to dodge to. He leapt into the air, launching himself above both blasts of flame.
The man caught an insect in his left hand before it could stab into his liver before using it and its face spike to pierce through three other insects, creating a nice little insect shish kabob before throwing it towards Jogo. He just responded with another column of fire.
This wasn't going as planned. Jogo needed to keep the pressure up and not allow the man to get any freedom if he wanted to minimize any chance of the man landing a lethal blow. But in doing so, he couldn't really target the weapon specifically.
Something would have to happen soon because as it stood, the fight could go either way. Does Jogo's superior offensive overcome the man's superior evasive ability before the man finds an opening and beheads Jogo? No one could say.
——
Isamu could theory craft and speculate on the situation all day, truly showing how peculiar the find was. But if he was being honest, he didn't really care. He was just not in the right mind for such an activity. He would much rather fight something.
He was on a timer. He only had a brief time before his flow state ran out and whatever this odd sensation was faded. And the best way to capitalize on that opportunity was to use his cursed energy frequently and experimentally. Aka, in a fight.
As luck would have it, an opportunity presented itself rather quickly. A red and orange glow flashed through the city, reflecting off the shattered glass littering the streets. Lava blasted through the clouds and pillars of fire destroyed the already shattered buildings of Shibuya.
It seemed two rather powerful individuals were fighting. Isamu didn't really care who they were or why they were fighting. The only thing that mattered was if they were tough enough to last a while. He didn't want his test subjects dying before he could learn as much as possible.
