Chapter 12: Chapter 12: The Wall
**GET THE FUCK OFF MY DAMN WALL**
**UP AND OVER**
**UP AND OVER**
Ken'ichiro's P.O.V
ok
deep breaths
.....
Ok I know I said I wouldn't have fear, but heights are the ultimate fear of mine. As I stood at the base of the imposing wall, my heart pounded like a drum in my chest. The shouts from Kaiser echoed through the training yard, each word feeling like a physical shove.
"ARE YOU WAITING FOR GOD TO BEAM YOU UP? GET YOUR ASS UP HERE, KEN'ICHIRO!" shouted Kaiser, his voice sharp and cutting through the thick air. His eyes glinted with amusement as he watched me from the top, arms crossed over his chest.
I glanced up, squinting against the harsh sunlight. The wall seemed to stretch infinitely into the sky.
"Come on, Ken'ichiro! If only your daddy could see you now, he'd be so ashamed to see his son being a wimp," Kaiser laughed.
His words stung more than I wanted to admit. What he didn't know was that my dad was more of a wimp than me. To even be compared to such a man was an embarrassment beyond measure. My father, a pathetic alcoholic, would Sexually take advantage of me.
The memories of his lustful gaze and the smell of stale whiskey on his breath were burned into my mind. The creak of the floorboards under his staggering steps was enough to send me into a spiral of fear and anxiety. Crazy enough he was a normal father without Liquor in his hand but deep down He was a cut sleeve; He would dress up in my mother's clothes and ask me if he looked good and to "come and give Mommy a kiss".
I've never even told my mother this. The thought of burdening her with such knowledge seemed unbearable. She was already frail, worn down by years of trying to manage his unpredictable rages and the chaos of our household. I often saw the flicker of doubt in her eyes, a silent question she never dared to voice. Maybe she knew, maybe she didn't. But we both lived in a world where silence was our only defense.
The comparison to my father felt like a punch to the gut, a reminder of the darkness I had fought so hard to escape. It was as if my tormentor's shadow was stretching over my life, threatening to pull me back into the abyss I had crawled out of.
Fuck this
I mustered up the courage and started climbing
Halfway up, my arms burned and my legs trembled. I paused, clinging to the wall, gasping for breath. Below, the yard looked smaller, the faces of the trainees indistinct blurs. Above, Kaiser continued to shout, his voice a constant goad.
"That's it, Ken'ichiro! Show us what you're made of!" he taunted.
With a final burst of determination, I pushed myself upwards and finally I was at the Top.
About goddamn time!" shouted Kaiser, his voice echoing through the air.
I glanced over at him, feeling the adrenaline still coursing through my veins.
"Looks like you're not a wimp after all," he said,
"Now for the fun part," Kaiser said, his smile turning almost predatory. "GET OFF MY DAMN WALL!"
I looked down, the ground seeming much farther away now that I wasn't in the heat of the moment. Did I mention we were 60 feet in the air? Yeah, 60 feet.
The adrenaline wore off, and fear spoke first before I could. "Hell NO."
"What?!" Kaiser laughed, a cruel edge to his voice. "Are you disobeying an order?"
The flashback of what he said that night replayed in my mind. "Let this be a lesson to all of you. Disobedience will not be tolerated."
Will Kaiser kill him as well? Ken'ichiro's mind raced, filled with the horrific memory of that night when he witnessed Kaiser's brutal enforcement of his rule. The lifeless body of his friend, the cold and unforgiving stare of Kaiser, and the helplessness he felt, all rushed back in vivid detail.
Suddenly, Kaiser grabbed him by his collar and lifted him effortlessly into the air. Ken'ichiro's feet dangling.
Kaiser's face was inches from his, and Ken'ichiro could see the madness in his eyes. "I warned you," Kaiser hissed, ."Are you ready to die, Ken'ichiro?" Kaiser sneered.
"Give me one good reason I shouldn't drop you to your death?" Kaiser growled, gripping Ken'ichiro's shirt collar as they dangled precariously over the edge.
"Don't you have any children?" Ken'ichiro asked, his voice steady despite the peril. "Is this how you would teach them to be a man?"
Kaiser scoffed, a sneer playing on his lips. "I have a baby on the way with some chick I met in Yokohama."
Ken'ichiro's eyes widened slightly as he seized the opportunity to delve deeper. "Funny, I lived in Yokohama. What do you think she would say if she saw you acting this way towards us?"
Kaiser's expression hardened, but a flicker of sadness momentarily crossed his eyes. "Why should I give a fuck about what some slut thinks of me? She's married anyway. It's not my business to care."
"Wait," Ken'ichiro said, a dawning realization hitting him. "This sounds all too familiar." He paused, studying Kaiser's face. "Was the woman named Kato?"
Kaiser's eyes narrowed in suspicion. "Yeah! How do you know her?"
Ken'ichiro's heart ached for the man in front of him. It was clear Kaiser didn't know. "I'm sorry to tell you this," Ken'ichiro said, his voice softening. "But Kato was murdered by her husband a year ago. I unfortunately saw everything"
Kaiser's grip loosened slightly, his face a mix of shock and grief. "No... that can't be," he whispered, the tough facade crumbling as the reality set in. The training ground around them seemed to blur as the weight of the revelation sank into Kaiser, his once commanding presence now vulnerable and exposed.
Suddenly, Kaiser straightened, regaining a fraction of his composure. "TRAINING OVER FOR TODAY! Everyone go back to the barracks!" he shouted. As the soldiers began to disperse, he turned to Ken'ichiro, his eyes steely with determination. "And you, Ken'ichiro, you're coming with me."
"Where?" asked Ken'ichiro, a mixture of confusion and concern evident in his voice.
Where do you think, dumbass?!?" Kaiser snapped, his eyes blazing with anger. "We're taking a trip to Yokohama."
I'm going to kill the bastard that killed Kato and my innocent daughter who didn't get a chance to live.
