Chapter 2: Chapter 2 Get to work
Ten minutes after Razor left she was still standing in the same spot, just staring into space with tears running down her face, she then took a shuddering breath, took out her phone, and dialed her brother's number. "Hey sis, Razor told me what he asked you to do, so I'm at the house gathering your things now." She could hear him shuffling around.
"You can't let him do this to me, Tony." She sobs. "Listen, sis, the sooner you realize that there's nothing Razor can't do, the better off you'll be, just sit tight, I'll be there with your things soon."
"So you're just going to let him do this to me? Keep me here for God knows how long until this man wakes up?" She asks in disbelief. Could her brother really be more loyal to Razor than he was to her?
"Listen, sis, the fastest way for me to lose my tongue is to question Razor's decisions. I'm sorry but if that is what he says you have to do, then that's what you'll have to do." He said in a firm tone.
"Some brother you are." She grumbles. "Oh put a fucking sock in it already, you, mama, and Zoe are all acting as if I'm the one doing this when everything I do is for the sole purpose of keeping all of you alive. As much as I'm Razor's right-hand man, he won't hesitate to put a bullet in my head if I so much as disobey one of his commands, so all of you, do me a favor and back the hell off of me alright!" He shouts and ends the call in her ear.
After sobbing uncontrollably for another ten minutes she dials her boyfriend's number, and he answers on the second ring. "Hi baby, I'll be at your house in an hour okay." He said in a hasty tone.
"Um, you don't have to rush, I'm not at home." She sobs. "What's going on? Why are you? And why do you sound so upset?" He asks in concern. "I….I'm at…Razor's place." She sniffles wiping her nose on her blouse. "Wait….what….why? Did one of his goons get shot again?" he asks in a nervous tone.
"I don't understand why he has to always call you when one of them gets shot, it's not like you are the only nurse in the community." He grumbles. "Anyway, it's the big bad Razor, when he calls you run, it's what it is, just patch him up and I'll see you at lunch." He said with a groan.
"I wish more than anything that I could but that isn't going to happen, I won't be seeing you or my family for a while." She began sobbing again. "Why?" He asks raising his voice. "Well because the man that got hurt isn't one of his, he's a total stranger but Razor wants me to stay here and care for him until he wakes up." "Excuse me! What condition is this man in? And how long is that going to take?" he demands.
"Well, he's..." "What did I say about this damn phone?" Razor barks grabbing the phone from her and ending the call. When did he come in? She wondered. "Speak of him to no one, what you do in this house, stays in this house, got that?" He sneers angrily. After taking a deep breath she nods her head.
"Have you assessed him yet?" He asks and she shakes her head no. "All alright, eat, then examine him and write down your report on that notepad over there." He said placing a tray of sausages, eggs, toast, and juice on a table. "I always drink tea in the mornings." She said in a soft tone as she looked at the glass of juice. "But of course your highness." He drawls in a nasty tone, turns on his heels, and storms from the room slamming the door shut behind him. "What have I ever done Lord, for you to put me in a situation like this?" She cried and again slumped down in a corner.
Ten minutes later she was still slumped on the floor when the door opened and her brother walked in with some of her things. "What are you doing over there?" He asks putting a cup of tea beside the tray and her things on the bed. He then walks over to her and pulls her to her feet.
"What's wrong? Did he hurt you?" He asks his eyes moving over her body quickly. 'What do you care?" She grumbles pulling away from him. He sighs in relief when he realizes she was alright. "If I didn't care about you I would have declined Razor's offer to join his gang and right now you, Zoe, and probably even Mama would be locked in a room somewhere in this house where men could come in and do what they wish with the lot of you and there would be nothing anyone could do to stop him." He states in a frustrated tone.
"Last I checked our father died a long time ago, I'm the man of the house now and it's up to me to do what is necessary to protect all of you. You can all walk about freely because of me. You and Zoe are still virgins because of me." He sighs heavily.
"Now listen to me Liah, you don't have time for this nonsense. Sloping in a corner crying and feeling sorry for yourself will only get you and all of us killed, is that what you want?" "No." She sobs. "Then get a hold of yourself and do what needs to be done, hurry up, eat, and then do your damn job before he comes back in here, he's….." The ringing of his phone cuts his sentence short as he checks it. "I've to go, now for all our sakes, including David's, get to work." He orders hurrying out the door.
Wiping her nose on her blouse she walks slowly towards the table and quickly eats the breakfast and drinks the almost cold tea. She then went to the bathroom and freshened up. She then tied the white apron that was hanging on the back of the door over her clothes and went back into the room.
She picked up the notepad and began reading what was written on it. He had four broken ribs, a punctured lung, severe brain damage, both his legs were broken, his shoulder was dislocated, both his arms were also broken and he had severe internal injuries.
He was also wearing a neck brace to support his spine, not to mention lots and lots of cuts and bruises. Her eyes wandered to the monitors, and his heart rate was very low and shallow, with all these injuries, it was a miracle he was breathing at all.
Putting down the pad she walked back into the bathroom, washed her hands, put on a pair of rubber gloves, and went back over to him. While taking his vitals she began talking to him. "Hi, my name is Liah Robinson and I was brought here against my will to care for you but don't worry, I'm not blaming you. I'm sure you didn't ask for any of this." She said making a note.
"You didn't ask to be beaten within inches of your life or to be rescued by the most vile animal on the face of the planet. Hmm, your heart rate and blood pressure is dangerously low, that's not good at all, come on now, you've come this far, now you've to fight or you won't make it." She said to the unconscious man.
"Hmm, nicely manicured nails, flawless skin, well except for all your cuts of course, but all the other stuff tells me you're someone who takes care of himself and your built and muscular structure also indicates that you work out a lot.
Now you can't tell a lot about a person's personality just by looking at them, so I don't know if you're a bad person or not but it's clear to see that someone wanted you dead, whether or not you did something to deserve this is still to be determined….I wonder…."
"Stop wondering and start reporting," Razor said in a cold tone from behind her causing her to jump. Again he had entered the room without her hearing him. "How's he?" He asks looking at the man. He actually sounds like he cared but why? It's not like he was famous for helping people.
"Do not make me repeat myself." He growls through clenched teeth. "His…his vitals are dangerously low and he needs to be in an ICU." She said. "Eh, that's to be expected and this is as good as any ICU." He states. "Actually it's not." "Excuse me?" He asks in a deadly tone.
"Well for one in an ICU, he would be quarantined and protected from germs and bacteria. His immune system is very vulnerable right now and he could be easily infected. I need the proper head, shoes, and clothes covering which you and anyone else that may enter this room needs to wear until his system is strong enough to handle visitors." She explains.
"And that door needs to be kept locked at all times." She adds. He growls deep in his throat and moves to close the door but before he can one of his goons escorts a young girl that looks to be in her late teens into the room. Liah immediately recognizes her as the girl who went missing from the community a few weeks ago.
The girl went over, and took up the tray with the empty breakfast containers and there was no way she could miss the pleading look in the girl's eyes as she was shoved from the room by the goon.
"Whatever you're thinking of saying right now, don't. The lives of your loved ones are in your hands." He said with a nasty smirk as he walks from the room.
