Chapter 47: Chapter 47 Hell a Top, Hell a Bottom
The following morning, Liah was explaining to Michael what she had left for his breakfast and lunch when David entered the house. "Morning everyone, " he greets them cheerfully. Zoey and her mother return his cheerful greeting, Liah grumbles her good morning, and Michael nods but says nothing.
"Okay then, Liah, can I give you a drive to work?" David asks, sounding hopeful. "That won't be necessary, " she says, turning away from him, but he grabs her wrist. The action doesn't miss Michael's sharp eyes, but again he says nothing.
"I'm sorry but I've to insist, I really need to talk to you, privately." He said glancing at Michael. "Please Liah." He pleads. "David...I..." "At least hear what the man has to say Liah." Her mother said cutting off her protest. "I can't leave until the Potato pudding is finished anyway, so I'll explain things to Moses. You go with David and drop Zoey off at school on your way, please." Her mother said. "Okay mama, we will do that." David agrees.
"Fine, just give me a minute to finish getting ready, you can wait for me in the living room," Liah says before walking away. Michael turns to leave but David's voice stops him. "Hey, hold on a minute," David calls walking towards him. "Look I owe you an apology alright, it was wrong of me to come at you like that but the fact that you're capable of taking someone's life doesn't sit well with me," David said running his hands over his face.
"You were locked in a room with my woman for over two months and I know that you've developed feelings for her and now you're locked in here, in her house. For the second time around you get to sleep in the same house as my woman and I can't, don't you think that's just unfair to me?
Liah has been my girl for years now and I've never slept in the same house as her because of our beliefs and now here you are, you, and you really expect me to just be okay with that? Would you be okay if the woman you love was locked in a house with another man?" He asks sighing with frustration.
"No, no you wouldn't. I'm so jealous right now, I could strangle you with my bare hands but hey, I realize that I've been approaching this whole situation the wrong way and now I'm just trying to do the right thing because the truth is, none of this is your fault, Razor is the reason you're here, so again I apologize." David says with a nod before walking away.
On his way back to his room he replays David's words over and over in his mind, now on the surface that almost seems like a sincere apology, almost, being the keyword in that sentence. He has a feeling that there is a lot hidden behind David's words.
He was about to close his door but Liah blocked it with her foot, pushed it open, stepped in, and closed it behind her. She then grabs him by his shirt and pulls him towards her capturing his lips with hers, they were both panting when she released him.
"I'm going to miss you." She whispers against his lips. "As I'll miss you." He whispers back and shoves her against the door again he doesn't hold back in showing her just how badly he is going to miss her.
A few minutes later she was almost to the front door when his deep voice calling her name stopped her, and not just her but Zoey and David as well. "Hmm," She replied as her name coming from his lips took her breath away.
"Could you please buy a phone for me?" He asks holding out a wad of cash to her. She remembers him telling her that the one he had before was destroyed by the man from the other side, he said that one of Razor's men gave him another before he came to her house but he had a feeling that one was also compromised.
"Sure," She says counting out some of the money, she then gives him back more than half of what he gave her. "You keep that, this is all I need." She said with a gentle smile. "Thank you." He says nodding slowly before turning towards his room.
"Could you please explain that to me?" Michael asks as Liah's mother enters the house through the back door. "What?" She asks confused. "That," He said pointing at the pot on the fire in her backyard. "Oh, that's the pudding you heard me talking about earlier." She says heading towards the kitchen.
"Oh, you mean why I'm cooking it like that?" She asked when she saw the confused look on his face. "Yes," He says following her. "Oh well, you see, we call it, hell a top and hell a bottom and heaven in the middle. Hell, meaning the fire, and heaven meaning the pudding. Now that fire on top is what gives it the rich golden crust when it's finished, do you want to try it when it's done?" He nods yes. "Alright, I guarantee it will knock your socks off." Her mother laughs heading back outside.
The long passionate kiss Moses had given her while pinning her against the door has been playing over and over in her mind since she left the house. So much so that she was vaguely aware of them dropping Zoey off at her school gate. Those strong arms, his sexy muscular chest, rock-hard abs, the bulge in his pants, and the slow dance his tongue did with hers made her regret pulling away from him seconds after she did but to keep their relationship a secret she had to, until tonight that is. She really couldn't wait to finish this day and get back home to him.
"Liah, baby, are you even listening to me?" David asks his voice invading her thoughts. "Hmm, uh, yeah." She mumbles trying to focus on what he is saying. "I'm so sorry baby, I know I've been acting like a jerk ever since you returned from Razor's house and that's because I've allowed all the rumors and whispers to get to me. That wasn't fair to you and I'm sorry, please forgive me." He pleads.
"I know I said that I wanted to take things slowly but this slow thing is driving me crazy. I love you Liah and I still want us to be together and okay, so I won't be your first but you can be mine, I'm okay with that." He said smiling at her.
"Wait, are you saying you're still a virgin?" She asks in disbelief. "I've been in the church since I was twelve years old and sex after marriage is what we were thought, so yes Liah, I'm still a virgin." He said firmly. "Liah, please give me a chance to make things right between us." He pleads.
This was the man she wanted to see when she returned from Razor's house. The man she wanted to hold and kiss her and tell her that everything was going to be alright. The man she wanted to soothe all her fears. The man that was once the centre of her world but now he wasn't.
Moses has fully taken over the space in her heart that David used to occupy. Moses was the one holding her now, the one soothing her fears and protecting her. So where did that leave her now? For weeks she had wanted to hear these words from David.
She had hoped and prayed that the next time she saw him would be the time that he take her in his arms and whisper these words to her but he didn't. For weeks all he did was hold her at arm's length like a dirty dishcloth and now, now was the time he chose to say them, great, just great. She thought with a snort.
"Was that a yes?" he asks hopefully. "David..." "Alright...alright," He said cutting her off. "I'll admit that I was a jerk to Michael as well and I've already apologized to him when I was at the house but come on Liah, you've to admit that when you saw me with that young girl you were jealous, so much that you practically accuse me of cheating on you.
So how exactly do you think I feel knowing that man is sleeping in the same house as my woman? It's driving me nuts Liah, and it's causing me to do and say things I don't mean....." "Oh you mean like your little comment last night about me tiring him out?" She snaps.
"Yes, things like that, I'm sorry Liah, I shouldn't have said that, anyway just think about what I said about making things right between us okay." He said coming to a stop in the hospital parking lot. "Okay," She grumbles without looking at him. "I love you Liah." He adds as she opens the car door and steps out.
