Chapter 53: Chapter 53
And indeed, when it was discovered that the two spells possessed by the city mage could be used by vampires, a certain euphoria set in. Perhaps it's like with people who have been sentenced to death and then pardoned.
Magic and its power could become a lifesaving key that would allow vampires to survive. In the soldiers' memories were battles they witnessed, where mages performed fantastic feats. If the people brought into the new world had even half of that power, they wouldn't have to worry about their own fate and the fate of their loved ones.
But there was a catch, namely that they couldn't create new spells. Simply because they couldn't create the power framework of a magical pattern. It was like telling a dying person that the diagnosis was incorrect and they would live, only to immediately say that it needed to be checked again and they were still dying. By the start of the meeting, Alexander felt somewhat like this, and therefore, he could only think about magic.
"It's all fine. We understand your concern for the lives of everyone here. It's clear how much you take it to heart, unlike Alexey Gennadievich. So don't apologize. Magic is all well and good, but let's talk about something more pleasant."
Everyone nodded in agreement. Trophies! The sacred word of all times. Loot! Pieces of silver!
Konstantin took the floor.
"I distributed all the clothing and weapons among our 'guards' for sharing, as well as all the personal belongings of the soldiers and sergeants. They are now setting up tents around the camp, naturally next to the shelters of those who participated in the attack. I took the tent for us for now."
All present smiled. The commanders getting the better part of the loot? Absolutely, no questions. If this were in their home world, they would probably have protested, demanding equal rights and shares, but this was a different world with its own rules. You don't bring your own rules into someone else's monastery.
"I've held onto all the money and valuable items for now, as well as all the armor; they are currently in the common storage. The knight's and mage's personal belongings are also untouched and fully preserved. That's all regarding the trophies."
"Is that all that was in the convoy?"
"Also some provisions. What did you expect? Magical artifacts and exotic beasts? What do you take with you when you go on a campaign? Well, they took the same, plus weapons, since their campaign is specific."
Konstantin grinned and sat down.
"And did we take any provisions?" Alexander only now realized, recalling that they now had prisoners, and feeding them only meat was not the best idea.
"We did. Not much, but we did. It's already with the prisoners; let them store and use it themselves."
"Darn it. That's also a question, what to do with them..."
"Don't worry," Oleg spoke up, "I've already explained their situation and what awaits them in case of escape. I promised them safety here and showed them our capabilities. They are impressed and ready to behave quietly and serve us faithfully. They are currently preparing smoked meat and butchering the game that appears after the hunt."
"Excellent. Since everything is clear with the prisoners, then about the armor... After the meeting, take Leonid and go through them together, see what needs to be done with them. The armor will remain in the common storage for now. Everyone agrees?"
Everyone nodded in unison.
"Then plans for the future? Anyone have any ideas?"
The discussion of plans dragged on for almost two hours. Everyone understood that they needed to build proper houses with deep basements. And that meant establishing a permanent settlement. Directly here or somewhere close by. This meant they would need to make contact with the locals and somehow legalize themselves. Around these truths, all the conversations revolved until Alexander concluded the meeting.
After most of those present dispersed, their company resembled its former self, except for the addition of Leonid, who, like Oleg, hadn't gone anywhere.
"What are we going to do with the acquired money?"
"Do we have any suggestions other than storage?"
"The reserve can't hold it all, so let it lie!"
"Yes, and overall, the local monetary system shines with originality and stupidity. How smart do you have to be to have six coppers make a copper coin, fifteen copper coins equal one silver piece, four silver pieces equal one silver coin, and twelve silver coins equal one gold coin, all in a decimal counting system?"
Gennady was openly amused.
