The Oblivion Walker

Chapter 3: What to do? What to do?

———

"Shit."

I cursed, what the hell was I gonna do with this kid? If they weren't human... then that'd explain everything... but it would also mean it'd be a huge pain in the ass to deal with this.

They looked at me, with their pitch black eyes seemingly devoid of emotion and expressionless face.

I was gonna definitely need some help with this. I couldn't just let them leave. Who knows what could happen? They could get hurt, kidnapped, or even end up beating up someone's grandma!

I literally sensed nothing from them. It was like empty space in the shape of a child in front of me. This kid could have immense amounts of power for all I know. I mean, most animals who have attained a human form are extremely powerful and somewhat resemble which animal they are.

But this kid gave zero clues. It's lack of presence could be explained by it being an insect… but insects are usually have an extreme defensive reaction to humans…

Also there was the fact his body was distorting into black smoke when I first came upon him.

So maybe a shadow fox? A black phoenix? Shade leopard? None of these seemed right. I had a few other possible candidates, but zero of them seemed right either. But then again, there are always exceptions… as individual animals are usually different in some way. Perhaps a mutation or variant I don't know of?

Honestly, my knowledge of animals wasn't good enough. I did have a more knowledgeable friend I could call up on to check this out.

While thinking, the kid blankly stared at me. His pupils were like an abyss of unyielding darkness. Unable to shine or reflect light, it was pure black.

Grabbing heat, I held a fire in my hand.

Bringing it closer to him, the light lit up his face, but his eyes stayed the same. The darkness unchanging. It was odd. Two pitch black holes of which light could not escape from.

My senses of which were honed and sharpened by countless battles could not see the intent behind those eyes.

I was slowly becoming more and more aggravated as I racked my head around the kid.

"AGH DAMN IT! WHY IS THIS SO HARD!"

"…"The kid stared silently, his expression unchanging.

I poked him in the head. He copied me.

It was kinda cute, but it's behavior was pretty weird. Most wild animals don't come near humans… but if it managed to gain a human form… than it must have gained some sort of intelligence somewhere before that… and if it gained intelligence… then it should know about humans… but if it knew about humans… then it'd probably know how to interact with humans… then there was that cloak they were wearing… damn it.

I looked at the kid again. Was I gonna have to teach this kid how to talk or something?

I looked at my hands in a panic. But I was fired from my last teaching position. I wasn't qualified for this! I looked at the child again. Wait.

This could work. This wasn't any normal child. They were actually definitely far different from any child. This could work…

Then again, this child wasn't any of my business. I could just leave them at an orphanage or something.

I was raised in an orphanage and look at me. I turned out just fi- actually no. Never mind.

Those damn monks.

Whatever, I could probably do a better job my than those asshats. Not like I had anything else to do besides train and fight.

I looked at the kid and smiled as deviously as I could.

They say curiosity killed the cat, but I had a little more than nine lives.

By that I mean purely ability wise. I did not have more than even one life.

She began laughing maniacally. Due to my limited understanding of everything, I did not get why.

Nearly all my emotions were foreign to me. Simply existing here was incredibly strange.

But it was already better than being back there, so I just kept soaking in all of this new stimuli.

I think I smiled, but honestly, I couldn't remember.
