Chapter 12 - Counterattack.
After this little incident, everyone safely welcomed the morning. Yu Qing was awakened by the sunlight, and there was no one beside him.
He sat up and realized that he still hadn’t reverted back after a whole night. Sleeping felt as exhausting as not sleeping at all. It seemed that his ability was reaching its limit.
He felt a bit distressed. He couldn’t keep relying on his ability to automatically grow larger every time he was exhausted. It was too troublesome.
“Are you all awake? I cooked something for you to eat. Come over and try it.” Aunt An’s voice came from outside.
He walked out and smelled the enticing aroma wafting in the air. Aunt An was actually carrying various dishes. They had been eating quite casually these past few days, so the smell of normal dishes made his mouth water. He hurriedly ran over.
“Aunt An, where did you get these good things?”
She wiped the sweat from her forehead with her sleeve and smiled, “I found some frozen semi-finished meat and a few vegetables in the refrigerator of some stores this morning.
They weren’t spoiled, and there were also some condiments on the table, so I decided to cook them. Wu Zhenhu helped me with the fire; I couldn’t have done it without him.”
Yu Qing sniffed the aroma in the air, eager to eat, “I’ll go call them!”
Chen Yi asked, “What’s that smell?”
“Wow, it smells so good!” Tu Xiao was also drawn over by the aroma.
Without Yu Qing having to call them, some people spontaneously came over after smelling the food. They found some plastic stools and cardboard boxes, and set up a makeshift table and chairs outdoors.
Yu Qing stood beside the table, looking up as Song Xinqi served him noodles. When he reached out to take it, he mischievously raised the bowl just out of his reach.
Song Xinqi teased, “Do you want Daddy to feed you?”
Yu Qing jumped up to reach it, grumbling, “I can eat by myself!”
Chen Yi, passing by, rolled his eyes at them.
Yu Qing glared at the two of them. They were making him unhappy so early in the morning. In his anger, his emotions surged, and he suddenly reverted back to his normal height. Taking advantage of Song Xinqi’s distraction, he snatched the bowl and ran away.
“It’s delicious.” Tu Xiao put a piece of fish in her mouth and was moved to the verge of tears. “I never thought I’d have a normal meal again.”
After finishing a bowl, Song Xinqi went to refill it. Yu Qing was practically licking the plate clean. Chen Yi ate silently, while Wu Zhenhu ate and reminded everyone about his contribution to starting the fire. Aunt An watched everyone with a smile.
On their journey of exile, a usual yet unusual breakfast came to an end.
They had been staying here for too long. After breakfast and tidying up, they should set off.
Yu Qing was sent by Song Xinqi to fill up the water in the tea room. On his way, he coincidentally met Chen Yi, who was also going to fetch water.
Chen Yi didn’t intend to fetch water anymore, and when he saw Yu Qing, his face turned ugly.
Yu Qing didn’t want to confront him either. Unfortunately, between two malicious cannon fodders, there was a peculiar attraction. Even if he didn’t actively seek trouble, Chen Yi would still come looking for him.
“I really don’t know how you, a drag-along, managed to survive until now.”
Seeing Yu Qing remain silent, Chen Yi felt he was in the right and became even more arrogant. “What are you so proud of? You’re just relying on Song Xinqi’s protection. Without him, you’re nothing.”
Yu Qing was starting to get angry. He couldn’t understand why there was hostility among the members of the team. He could accept Song Xinqi’s disdain because he was his guarantee of survival, but that didn’t mean he would let others bully him.
Yu Qing asked, “Are you jealous?”
Chen Yi seemed to be struck by something and angrily retorted, “Jealous of what? Are you useless? Do you think his interest in you will last long? When he gets tired of you, you won’t even know how you’ll die.”
“But Song Xinqi is indeed very interested in me now. Unlike you, who rushes over and still gets rejected.” Yu Qing’s eyes were beautiful and clear, exuding a naive innocence when he looked directly at others. “He won’t reject me. Are you jealous?”
Seeing Chen Yi’s darkening face, he triumphantly continued, “Even if you try so hard to get his attention, he won’t notice you. He fancies me. When I get jealous, he’ll come to comfort me. Guess if I tell him that you’re bullying me here, will he be angry?”
Chen Yi retorted, “Don’t think I can’t see through it. He doesn’t care about you at all.”
“He’s just being stubborn. You don’t understand him. He likes me too much to pretend not to care. Didn’t you see how he rushed over when he saw me being chased by zombies last night? He’s afraid I’ll die. If I die, he won’t be able to live either.”
The latter part was true, so he spoke with confidence, making Chen Yi feel insecure and gradually doubting his own judgment. After all, Song Xinqi seemed genuinely concerned about Yu Qing’s safety last night.
Seeing him leave with a frustrated look, Yu Qing felt relieved. He suddenly understood the feeling of the original host when he asserted his dominance. Surprisingly, it felt really good.
Just as he finished filling the water and turned to leave, he suddenly saw Song Xinqi leaning against the doorway of the tea room, looking at him with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes.
His heart skipped a beat. He didn’t know when he had arrived or how much he had heard. Feeling guilty and unable to look at him, he handed the bag of water bottles to Song Xinqi. “It’s filled up.”
But Song Xinqi didn’t take the bag. Yu Qing held it up for a while until he looked up at him.
Song Xinqi asked, “Heard that I like you?”
His tone was calm but gave off a chilling feeling. “Heard that I like you? That you get jealous and I have to comfort you? That I can’t live without you?”
“I was just scaring him, talking nonsense.” Yu Qing felt guilty.
“Yu Qing, do you think I’ll protect you just because we have a mental link?”
Feeling the coldness in his words, Yu Qing shook his head repeatedly. “No, no, I was just kidding. You don’t like me at all.
You are annoyed by me. If I hadn’t shamelessly tied a mental link to you while you were feverish, you wouldn’t have even looked at me. I was wrong, I was really wrong. Don’t leave me, I’ll really die.”
Yu Qing kept glancing at Song Xinqi’s expression, who stood there with his arms crossed, staring down at him. His eyes were dark and unreadable.
Feeling increasingly guilty, Yu Qing took a step back. “I’m going to talk to Chen Yi!”
Song Xinqi grabbed the back of his collar. “Come back.”
Yu Qing turned around, and Song Xinqi said, “You have such a good temper. Everyone bullies you right under your nose, and you still want to explain to them?”
He released Yu Qing’s collar and straightened it out. “Pathetic.”
Meanwhile, on the other side, Wu Zhenhu saw Chen Yi walking over with a pale face and casually asked, “What’s wrong? You look terrible. Feeling unwell?”
Chen Yi shook his head, and seeing that he didn’t want to talk about it, Wu Zhenhu didn’t press further.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Chen Yi thought back to what had happened earlier. After leaving the tea room, he had encountered Song Xinqi, and he was sure that Yu Qing’s words were all lies.
Since Song Xinqi was there, it was a perfect opportunity to expose Yu Qing’s true colors in front of him. However, Song Xinqi didn’t react at all after hearing it.
Instead, he threatened him, saying that if he caused trouble for Yu Qing again, he would make him suffer.
Thinking back to the disdainful look in his eyes and his blatant disgust, Chen Yi felt a chill run down his spine.
Although Song Xinqi scolded him for being pathetic, Yu Qing felt that he should salvage his image in Song Xinqi’s eyes.
He briskly walked over, not even bothering to exchange more than a few words with Tu Xiao, who greeted him along the way. He headed straight for Chen Yi and said, “Chen Yi, I need to confess something to you.”
Chen Yi looked at him under the car, remembered Song Xinqi’s warning, and his expression turned sour. “What is it?”
Yu Qing glanced back at Song Xinqi, who was leisurely walking over, then deliberately raised his voice, “I was just talking nonsense earlier. Actually, Song Xinqi doesn’t like me at all.
He hates me and finds me repulsive. He only brought me along because he was forced to. I was just afraid you’d steal him away, so I got upset and said those brainless things. Don’t take it seriously!”
His reputation was completely ruined, but now Song Xinqi should be satisfied!
Aunt An on the side was stunned. “What’s going on?”
Tu Xiao figured out a bit of it. It seemed that Chen Yi was trying to show off in front of Song Xinqi, but Yu Qing got angry and came out to apologize. She felt a little sorry for him and had even more grievances towards Chen Yi.
Chen Yi looked at Yu him, then glanced at Song Xinqi, who was watching with interest from behind. He was so furious that he could explode. “Are you deliberately showing off in front of me!?”
Yu Qing blinked innocently. “No?”
Chen Yi glared at him fiercely, then rolled up the window to block out the view and simmered in anger.
Even though Yu Qing couldn’t figure out what Chen Yi had misunderstood, the most important thing was to make Song Xinqi feel that he had sincerely repented. He turned to him, proving, “You see, I’ve explained it all.”
Song Xinqi chuckled, feeling that his explanation was far from sufficient. He brushed his soft hair, his actions gentle as if caressing a lover. However, the hidden meaning in his tone made it impossible for the listener to make such an association.
“For now, I still have some patience with you. Behave yourself and don’t make me angry.”
With this matter resolved, Yu Qing breathed a sigh of relief and nodded obediently.
After spending a night, the vegetation on the road underwent a drastic change again. The pine trees on both sides resembled large dark green sea urchins, and their sharp needles would leave deep marks if accidentally pricked on the skin.
After Tu Xiao was accidentally scratched by a pine needle, everyone in the carriage moved a bit closer to the center.
Unfortunately, the pine trees always seemed to grow on the side of the road, and the sound of the glass scraping against them was like nails on a chalkboard.
The sound of the glass scraping against the pine trees made Yu Qing’s hair stand on end.
To spare himself from the torture of his ears, he kept talking to Tu Xiao and Aunt An to divert his attention, luckily they didn’t find him annoying.
Song Xinqi rubbed his temples, annoyed by the sound of the glass scraping against the pine needles, feeling that his fragile mental state was being disturbed again. He waved towards Yu Qing, who was getting more and more excited as he talked.
Yu Qing paused in his speech and moved over inexplicably. “What’s up?”
Was he being noisy?
Song Xinqi said, “You’re making noise next to me.”
Yu Qing couldn’t tell if he was being serious or not. Was he really making too much noise?
Seeing him fall silent, Song Xinqi asked, “Why aren’t you talking?”
Yu Qing replied, “I’m not talking.”
Song Xinqi persisted, “I’m telling you to speak.”
Yu Qing was getting annoyed. “I said I’m not talking!”
Song Xinqi restrained himself and patiently said, “I’m serious, I want you to talk next to me.”
Yu Qing couldn’t understand Song Xinqi’s train of thought. “Then what do you want me to say?”
Song Xinqi looked at him in silence. Hadn’t this little waste realized that his words had a special power? Over the past few days, as he used his ability more, he discovered that Yu Qing’s words might be related to his psychic ability.
Because of their psychic link, Yu Qing could also use his ability to some extent.
However, this ability was originally harmful and could even harm oneself, but in Yu Qing’s hands, it inexplicably became a supportive buff.
As for why he couldn’t use Yu Qing’s ability, it was probably because Yu Qing was too weak, and the link couldn’t be shared.
Seeing Song Xinqi’s speechless expression, Yu Qing suddenly understood and affectionately sat beside him. “If you want to chat with me, just say so. Don’t beat around the bush. I almost didn’t understand what you meant.”
Song Xinqi’s temple throbbed. “Shut up.”
Yu Qing retorted, “What exactly do you want from me?”
