The Red Empire

Chapter 59: Squid

"Instead, for the Soviet's weapon, we could find some similar one from the Valeria. It is just that theirs are less powerful and, most of the time will be destroyed by our men before they even get the chance to work. If we can let some of their engineers here, to see how the Soviets work, I believe even a few years later when the Soviets come, we have a little chance to block them."

After the words were said, everyone was shocked. This is a point that many did not think about, they have allies, allies that are more trustworthy and reliable than the Soviet Union.

Aric seemed to be convinced by it and nodded his head.

"All right, send the message to Valerie, we might need their help."

He stands up staring at the stained glass window that depicts Karak's triumphs of the past. After a long silence, he spoke, his voice weary but resolute.

"Very well. We will accept their aid... but on our terms. Only the essentials. And their men will be watched closely. If they overstep, we will show them Karak is no pawn."

Bullshit!

Both William and Thomas know watching their men closely is just a pure bullshit imagination, those who were supposed to watch them just became blind to the Soviets at the end. The Karak is a pawn in actuality. But well, just like Aric said, they have no choice.

---

Soviet Black Sea fleet, where they were sailing on the sea. In another few days, they will return to Sevastopol. Everyone's face was filled with joy and pride. Joy is because they can have some rest after returning, and pride is because of how they show their power to the Karak.

Same to Gorshkov. He is now resting in his room, life on the sea is just boring.

In a sudden, a voice of hurry appeared in the control room.

"Red Alert! Red Alert! Something is approaching ... Shhhhhh..."

The voice interrupts before it can finish speaking. However, at that moment, far from the fleet, a submarine surfaced in the sea. Upon closer inspection, several black stripe objects were entangled around it, lifting the submarine to the surface. Below the sea, a dark object remained concealed.

The next moment, the submarine is shattered into several pieces by the black-striped object. The object that stayed beneath the sea also appears.

"What the hell! It is a squid." The one who saw said surprisingly.

A gigantic squid, with dark red eyes. The squid has faintly glowing veins along its tentacles, from previous experience, this may give them some resistance to the magic. It then gets back to the sea, and unlike ordinary camouflage like the other sea monsters, it mimics entire environments, changing itself to the reflection of the sea's surface.

"Get to your position!"

Without any order, every sailor gets into their position and is ready to fight. Alarms sounded on every ship.

By this time, another squid appeared again, but it was in the middle of the fleet this time. Its tentacles wrapped on a ship called 'Red October' and kept shaking it, it is where 'The Ecliptic Veil' was.

Gorshkov has also returned to his position, after briefly understanding what happened, he immediately gives his order.

"Escort 'The Ecliptic Veil' to a helicopter and simultaneously kill all these squids."

There was no doubt the order was correct, the squid can only attack them from below the sea, what they can do if they were in the sky.

Soon, a KA-25 helicopter that was originally operating his combat readiness patrol mission flew towards the ship. Just as it going to lower its attitude and take over the 'The Ecliptic Veil', another huge tentacle that was a few tens of meters suddenly stretched out from the sea and smashed towards it. The helicopter did not react and got hit.

The sailors on the deck watched in despair as the helicopter fell into the sea.

Things get worse, and another few more tentacles wrap on the ship again, they want to pull the ship down into the sea.

By this time, two Yak-38 fly above them, with their unique design, the vertical landing and take-off system (VTOL), they hover in the sky and start shooting their canon at those tentacles.

It works well, their 23mm gun penetrates the tentacles and then hits the ship. It leaves bloody wounds on the tentacles, but only a small scratch on the ship. Strong firepower making them shoot off several tentacles. However, it does not last for long, the few hundred rounds for the canon can't last them to fight long.

They then returned to Kiev class for resupply, of course, they will be others to take over them and continue to provide support to the ship. But in this gap, it will rely on the 'Red October' itself.

The support from Yak-38 gets 'Red October' some time, giving them a chance to adjust their canon to aim at those tentacles. Its 76.2mm anti-air guns and 30mm CIWS immediately finish their aiming, and fire in close range. Fragile flesh is nothing in front of the canon, huge tentacles have become pieces of minced meat.

Gorshkov observing the battle also realised one thing, the other ships were not providing enough support to 'Red October'.

"Why are not our ship firing at those squid?" Gorshkov asked angrily, the ship almost got pulled into the sea, yet he still did not see any effective support provided by the other.

"Admiral, our men are worried about accidental injury to those in the ship, so they could only use their light weapon to support them." the adjutant reported.

"Idiot, ask them to hide inside the ship, and the others just use their CIWS, it can injure the tentacles and not our ship."

With Gorshkov's order, all CIWS start to work and fire, it takes only a few tens of seconds, all the tentacles of a squid have been shot into pieces, and without anyway, the squid can only dive back into the sea.

Victory belongs to them.
