The Rise of German empire

Chapter 97: A Strategic Alliance for the Future

After hearing Oscar's words, Gustav Krupp and Beta Krupp couldn't help but reflect. There was no doubt that Oscar's request for the development of the 380mm main gun was a tremendous challenge. Krupp's R&D department was already stretched thin, and the large financial investment required would place significant pressure on the company.

However, when it came to Oscar's request and the needs of the Imperial Navy, they knew it would be difficult to say no, and there was little reason to refuse.

After all, as Germany's largest arms company, Krupp's fate was tightly intertwined with that of the German Empire. A prosperous Germany meant a stronger Krupp. Krupp had even hoped for Germany to go to war abroad, as increased military needs would naturally bring greater profits. But they were also aware that if Germany were to lose in a future war, it could spell the end for Krupp itself. They were acutely aware that helping Germany win was paramount to their survival.

"Your Royal Highness, although your request is very difficult for us to fulfill, for the sake of the empire, we will try our best to complete it. I will immediately organize the necessary manpower and begin developing the 380mm main gun. However, developing such a large-caliber gun will take time. It won't happen overnight," Gustav Krupp said with a solemn expression.

The decision wasn't made lightly. After just a brief moment of hesitation, they understood what had to be done. Faced with Oscar's request and the needs of the navy, they could not afford to refuse. Though developing the 380mm main gun would require a huge financial investment and possibly affect their profits in the short term, the prospect of future orders from the Imperial Navy would more than make up for it. And, more importantly, it was crucial to ensure that Germany had the naval firepower it needed to secure victory in the wars to come.

"Mr. Krupp, if Krupp can do this, it would be wonderful. As for the research and development time, I fully understand. The war won't break out for a while, so I believe we still have enough time," Oscar replied with a smile.

In Oscar's strategic plan, the German Navy would have battleships equipped with 380mm naval guns well before any conflict erupted. This would give Germany a significant advantage over the British Navy. With cutting-edge battleships and battlecruisers, the German Navy would be able to challenge the British Royal Navy and, when combined with submarines and aircraft carriers, defeat them with ease.

Oscar was confident that, once the British were defeated, the rest of the war would be much easier. With the British Navy out of the way, the threat from other countries, such as the Americans or Russians, would be minimal. The only real enemy would be France, which would be vulnerable without support from other nations. Oscar was certain that, with the German Army's strength bolstered by his own innovations, defeating France would be well within their reach.

"There is one last thing, Mr. Krupp," Oscar continued. "The Deutsche Industries Group has established a German arms manufacturing company and intends to enter the field of light weapons. I would like to request Krupp's support."

The Krupps' expressions tightened. Gustav Krupp furrowed his brows, while Beta Krupp's face darkened. Although the arms industry was highly profitable, the market was limited. If Oscar entered the light weapons field, it would undoubtedly reduce the profits of existing companies, including Krupp.

Furthermore, given Oscar's influence, it was clear that his entry into the market would likely win favor with the military, which would put other arms companies at a disadvantage.

Despite their concerns, Gustav and Beta Krupp knew that once Oscar made such a request, it was essentially a done deal. No one in Germany—apart from Kaiser Wilhelm II himself—could make Oscar back down. They couldn't stop him, so they would have to find a way to support him and maintain good relations.

Gustav Krupp quickly made his decision.

"Yes, Your Royal Highness. I understand that you plan to enter the arms field. Of course, you are only entering to a limited extent, and although the German Army is one of the strongest in the world, there is still room for improvement—especially in the area of light weapons. I agree that this is essential for the future success of Germany. While the Navy may have become stronger, in the end, it is the Army that must win the wars and secure victory for the nation." Gustav Krupp nodded, understanding Oscar's reasoning.

Oscar smiled and nodded in appreciation.

"Exactly, Mr. Krupp. The Army's combat effectiveness is crucial, and while our Navy has grown stronger, we cannot neglect the strength of our land forces. I want to ensure that the German Army has a decisive advantage in every field, including light weapons. This will be vital in ensuring that Germany can defeat its enemies swiftly and decisively."

Gustav Krupp's face softened as he acknowledged the importance of the plan. "How can Krupp support you in this venture, Your Royal Highness?"

Oscar leaned forward, making his proposal clear. "For Deutsche Arms Company, I hope that Krupp can take a stake in it. This way, we can jointly hold shares and form a strong alliance. I believe this will be beneficial for both of us."

He looked directly at Gustav Krupp, waiting for a response. Oscar was confident that Krupp would not refuse, knowing the potential benefits of such a partnership.
