Chapter 38: Chapter 38
I gasp, 'Joj bre!'
My mouth is practically hanging down to the floor. To call this a house is to make a mockery out of all the other people out in the world that own "houses".
It's a bloody mansion for crying out loud. It might be dark right now but he's got enough lights around the estate for me to see that he's got an infinity pool on the top level of the mansion on the balcony.
He's also got a tennis court and basketball court outside on the grounds, as well as, the typical rich people fountain, in the front of the entrance of the mansion. The roman goddess statue on the fountain, surrounded by flowers is lit up by bright lights on the floor of the grounds.
He's got massive marble pillars at the front of the house, styled like those old roman houses. This man definitely likes the finer things in life that's for sure.
I mean Stev has got a few nice properties under his belt, that I thought were pretty amazing and i even use them from time to time when I want to relax at some of his beachside houses, but this place is on another level.
This three-story mansion makes me feel dizzy.
Nik chuckles at my reaction, 'So what are you waiting for? Do you want to come inside and see what the rest of the place looks like?'
I feel nervous for some reason, 'You sure this is okay?' he glares at me, and I continue to prattle on, 'because you know I can easily stay at a hotel or my parents. I wouldn't want to disturb you or anything.'
He grabs me by the waist pulling me against him, 'Enough of this talk!' He says in a firm tone. He stares at me with a stern expression, 'I've already said that you are staying with me because I want to protect you and you are not disturbing me.'
With one hand he gestures to his estate, 'Look Kiska I don't mean to brag, honestly this place is so big that if I didn't know you were coming I'd probably never find you in this house. So you don't need to pay those useless thoughts any mind.'
'Okay…' I say with a lingering hint of uncertainty.
He smiles at me like a Cheshire cat, 'Plus I thought you were going to be the most annoying roommate I've ever had. So far you are looking pretty easy to me.'
Irritation flares inside me and I turn my nose up at him, 'You don't know what you're in for buddy. Show me the way.'
He continues staring at me as if he's got me exactly where he wants me.
Nik gestures for, who I can only assume is his butler to grab my bags, and then he opens the door with what looks like some kind of biometric system and lets me in.
I didn't think it was possible to be anymore shocked than I already was, but I was wrong. Boy was I wrong.
Contrary to the outside, with its roman-ancient look, the inside is obscenely modern, decked out to an inch of it's life with modern furnishings all placed in a minimalist style to maximise the use of the space. It looks like those arsty architect houses that you only see showcased in magazines.
I let out a whistle, 'Now I see why Stev spends so much time at your bloody place. He always makes "boys nights out" at your place to enjoy this.'
He chuckles, 'I'm honestly surprised that he never mentioned it to you, or invited you over.'
I laugh, 'It's probably because he thought I hated you and didn't want anything to do with you.'
He growls at my words, 'And now?' he squeezes my ass pressing our lower bodies tight together so I can feel how hard he is for me, 'Do you still want nothing to do with me?' he says grinding against me.
He's nibbling the side of my jaw, preventing me from being able to think coherently and reply.
He bites down on my lip, causing a harsher pinch to jolt me back to reality and I manage to reply, 'And now I just love to hate you…' I say with a twinkle of mischief in my eyes, paying him back for the bite.
His eyes go dark, promising revenge as he clutches my jaw and leans down to gobble me up like the big bad wolf that he is, but the doorbell goes off interrupting us.
'Radi khuya!' the violent way he spits out the words make me think that it's definitely an expletive of some kind. 'That's got to be Ryka, he has the best timing in the world, as you might have noticed!' he says with murder in his expression.
He opens the door, death staring Ryka. I hear his friend chuckle as he says something in Russian. Then they're both laughing and then they go in for a hug and kiss each other on the cheek 3 times.
I would've been surprised about the kissing thing, if it wasn't something that was commonplace in Serbian culture as well. Still it's rare seeing Nik being affectionate with others, so I am very curious who this Ryka is to him.
Nik calls me over, 'Ryka this is Jasmina.'
I put my hand out to give him a handshake but he surprises me by foregoing the formality and giving me a bear hug.
He lets me go, 'It's nice to finally meet Nik's girlfriend.'
Nik's expression is stormy as he watches us interact, 'She's not my girlfriend we're just friends!'
His words pierce my heart. I don't know what I was expecting to hear from him, but I thought by now I would've been just a little bit important to him. I try not to let the hurt show on my face.
'Oh come on Nik you don't have to lie, I see the way you look at h--'.
He growls out, 'Just drop it Ryka.'
I look towards the ground wanting to disappear into the clear white tiles that reflect my sad eyes.
Ryka coughs at the tense atmosphere.
'So Jasmina, I know you've probably had a very long day due to the shocking events that have occurred at your property, but I'm obligated to take a statement from you.'
I look up at him, sadness still lurking in the pits of my eyes, but I give him my best smile, 'Yeah sure I'll give you my statement right now.'
Nik pipes up, 'Ryka you can come by tomorrow, Jas needs to rest.'
Anger replaces my hurt, 'Don't be silly Nikolai, I'm perfectly fine to give Ryka his statement now.' I say with some bite to my tone.
Ryka is looking at me with a startled expression, as if he's never seen a woman disobey Nik before.
'No! I said he can take it tomorrow.' Nik commands.
I hold Ryka's shoulder, deliberately turning away from Nik's scrutinising gaze, 'I'll do it now. If you'll follow me.' I gesture to the main living room in the house.
As we walk past Nik, he glares at me with so much ire, it's a surprise he managed to keep his mouth shut at my defiance.
After I finish giving my statement to Ryka I rush off to find a spare room to crash in for the night.
I honestly don't feel like seeing Nik's face right now. I want to lick my wounds in peace out of prying eyes, those of which would be his.
I pick a random room and find the en suite. I'm too tired to care about how spacious and beautiful the bathroom is. What I do enjoy however is the beautiful waterfall jets falling and gliding down my body.
It feels so nice and warm. I let it wash away the negative events of today. Especially Nik's harsh comment about our relationship, which I shouldn't even be taking personally because he said from the beginning that it was more of a physical thing than a relationship.
I feel annoyed with myself for even allowing my heart to stray from the terms he set out. Especially when I agreed to them.
I turn up the temperature in the shower to scalding in hopes that it will wash away all my frustration. I'm enjoying the mixture of pain and pleasure from the intense heat when I hear a knock at the door.
'Who is it?' I yell out.
'It's me.' Nik's deep voice seeps through the door.
Ugh didn't he take a hint when I left him and Ryka. Why couldn't he just wait until tomorrow to ruin my fragile heart that much more.
The silence between us stretches as I neither permit nor deny him entry into the bathroom.
At last I bring myself to say, 'What do you want?'
'Can you come out first?'
I glare at the door, 'I'm busy can't you tell?'
Annoyance bleeds through his voice, 'Yes i am aware! When will you be done?'
