The Russian Billionaire's Fiesty Serb

Chapter 42: Chapter 42

We are both lying in Nik's bed, surprisingly he doesn't try to make a move on me.

Instead he's spooning me from behind, in nothing but his boxers. His groin is nestled against my back and is a constant reminder of why he can make any woman scream. I shiver, the thought tantalising.

'You feeling cold?' Nik asks. He rubs my shoulders to warm me up and pulls me in closer not leaving an inch between us.

I blush, thank god he can't read my mind.

'No, at least not anymore.' I say as I breathe in his woodsy scent. It dawns on me why I sleep so well when I'm in his arms, he makes me feel so cosy and safe.

I begin to slowly drift off to sleep when I hear Nick start his story,'Back in Russia, I used to work for the military. I was part of the FSB Spetsnaz which is their Special Military Forces Unit.'

As soon as the words leave his lips I'm alert and wide awake. Finally he's sharing something personal about himself with me. I don't dare breathe or say a word in case he stops talking.

'"Tensions were high at the time between our country and Georgia. We had intel that President Mikheil was planning an attack on Abkhzia which has Russian citizens living there that make up half their nation. Command ordered us to neutralise this threat, it was supposed to be a simple slip in and slip out job.'

He laughs derisively, 'But of course that's not how it went down.'

Nikolai runs his hand up and down my back in slow strokes, which seems to have a calming effect on him, 'We found a gap in President Mikheil's schedule where he would stop by a town called Ochamchire for a period of time and head back to his troops based in Gali. Control told us we only had a couple of days before the Gali troops set out to attack Sokhumi, the capital of Abkhazia, so we used that window of opportunity to our advantage.'

'We arrived at Ochamchire before President Mikheil, and set up our base of operations. I stationed one sniper on top of two separate buildings at the centre of the town. As President Mikheil and his entourage parked in front of the main square, me and three other agents followed closely behind, using the surrounding bush to conceal our presence. The bodyguards got out of their cars, standing guard over the President's black tinted SUV.'

I held my breath as the suspense built, 'I gave my men the signal for us to move out, immediately Artem and Dima snuck up on the security guards that were on the frontline taking them out from the ground, and Shasha and Vlad took out the other guards from their vantage points at the top of the two buildings. Me and Igor used the distraction to slip past the rest of their defences without being detected.'

'Igor covered me as we approached President Mikheil's SUV. When I opened the door, I stopped dead in my tracks, staring back at us were those murderous dirty brown eyes, except it wasn't President Mikheil. It was his son Dimitri.' Nik spits out, disgusted that the President would give up his son just like that.

He squeezes my waist tight for comfort, 'As soon as I saw the kid, I knew someone from the inside had set us up. But before I could even signal my team to abort the mission, a sharp sound cut through the air and the SUV in front of us exploded. The shock waves that emitted from the blast threw me and Igor onto the ground and knocked us out cold.'

'When I came to, my ears were ringing and everything was blurry but the first thing on my mind was finding Igor. The aches in my body rebelled against any movement, but years of training made me ignore it as I scanned my surroundings. I finally noticed his blonde mop of hair in a bush next to Dimitri's SUV and made my way over to him. I cleared away the rubble that had landed on top of him and slapped the side of his cheeks with my palms, 'Brat, wake up!'

'Arghhh' He groans in pain, but I knew our time to escape was limited. I quickly pull him up to his feet, crimson blood flowing down the side of his face. He wipes it from his face with the back of his hand and growls, 'Someone sold us out!'

I scowl, 'Tell me something I don't know.'

Another bomb explodes on top of the buildings with our snipers and we both duck for cover as the debris ricochets toward us.

'Fuck, Shasha and Vlad!' Igor exclaims.

'Don't worry, they know what to do when shit goes sideways.' I say, as I scan the area for our best breakaway point.

I spot a path that leads behind the house that the SUV's are parked in front of. It's got enough cover for us to be able to escape unscathed.

I scan the area and nod to Igor, then speak into my radio to see how my comrades were.
