Chapter 29: UNUSUAL BONDS
Angel sat on the humming lady's bed, as she made cuts out of the fabrics.
She was always the happiest everytime she had to sew something.
Right from her days as a kid, it was the one skill she had that brought her some sort of solace.
It was all thanks to her very first nanny. She couldn't be more grateful to her for teaching her how to sew.
"What are you doing?" She heard, but thought it was coming from her head.
"Chatty, I'm talking to you," she heard again, and that was when she paused, and lifted her head.
Looking behind her, she was met with a blank wall.
But when she looked forward, humming lady was looking in her direction.
She dropped the scissors, and pointed to herself.
"Me? You're talking to me?" She asked with widened eyes.
"Yes I am. What are you doing?"
Angel couldn't believe her ears. Even her ears couldn't believe what it heard, and it began to twitch.
She had gone to her room, taken her bath, and returned to the humming lady's room.
Even then, the humming lady ignored her when she tried to talk to her.
She had shrugged, and went into the closet herself.
The fabrics she discovered were like porn to her brain.
One after the other, she scanned through, until she found a box filled with the equipment she needed.
"Hey, I'm talking to you," Nadia snapped a finger towards her direction, causing her to jolt.
"I know. I just can't believe you're actually talking to me. I'm not used to such benevolence from you, you know?" She joked.
Nadia sighed, but humored her anyway. She hated that she was growing on her.
It was easy for her to make people do that. Just like that other woman many years ago.
Pushing those thoughts away, she focused on the girl on her bed.
She never allowed anyone on her bed. The girl had to have some special powers that made people drawn to her.
"Do you plan to just sew that with a needle and thread?"
"I don't mind," Angel shrugged. "I've used it before. It's not that bad."
Nadia rose to her feet, much to the surprise of Angel.
Her full height was even more majestic. She looked so tall, and so elegant.
"Use that instead," she said, and took off the cover from what Angel always thought was a table.
She was shocked to see a sewing machine.
Mostly because the humming lady always sat with a chair facing the covered surface, making it seem like a table.
"That's a—" Angel gasped, as she rose to her feet, and walked up to the sewing machine. "It's beautiful!"
"It is," Nadia nodded, stepping back.
"Can I touch it? Please, please, please," she begged.
"Sure, go ahead."
Angel ran her hand through the machine that was one of a kind.
It was a vintage piece, but it looked so brand new.
"How can you have this and spend all your days looking out the window? Don't you sew?" She asked, genuinely confused.
"No," she replied brusquely, and gave no further comments.
Not wanting to upset her, so she didn't take back her offer, Angel gave her a smile, and ran back to the bed.
She gathered all the fabrics, and tools she needed, and returned to the machine.
"Wait," Nadia called when she tried to sit on her chair.
She walked towards a spot in the large room, and grabbed a chair.
"Here's yours," she said, sitting down on her own chair.
She moved it behind, so Angel could comfortably sit.
"Thank you so much. You're the best!"
Angel sat down, and didn't waste time in setting up the machine.
"So what did you say you were going to do?" Nadia asked.
"First, I'll sew you a shirt with Italian silk. Then I'll sew a dress for me, with this rain inspired fabric. I can't believe you had this too. I've searched for it everywhere. Oh I can't wait to wear the dress I'd make from it!" She clapped excitedly, her face taking a daydreaming expression.
"But you said something about a plan."
"Oh yeah, that too. It's a master plan though. I'm sorry I can't share it with you just yet. Please don't take back your sewing machine?" She joined her hands together, pleading genuinely.
"I'm not going to do that. I just hope you know what you're doing."
"Trust me, okay? I know exactly what I'm doing. I might look delicate, and much younger than my age, but I tell you, I'm as wise and competent as a hawk."
"A hawk?" Nadia thought in her head, wondering what one had to do with the other.
"I've never lost a challenge, and that's why I don't like to be challenged. Don't look at me through the lens of a spoiled rich brat. I'm a spoiled, rich, luxurious, and hardworking brat," she smiled.
Nadia almost chuckled, but held back just in time.
She had met many characters in her lifetime, but she was perhaps the most interesting, and strange there was.
"What are you doing now?" She asked, feigning ignorance.
"I already cut out the shirt when you were ignoring me."
"But you didn't even take my measurements."
Angel threw her head back in laughter. When she was done, she turned to Nadia.
"Humming lady, I already told you I'm a professional. I measured you with my eyes. Don't believe me? Wait for the re—"
The door opened, interrupting Angel's words.
They both turned their heads behind at the same time to see Ivar, and Luciana walk in with a cart full of groceries.
Nadia instantly went back into her shell.
"Hi Nads! You look gorgeous today," Ivar called, as he carried the cart to a door Angel was only just noticing existed in the room.
Angel's eyes went to Nadia. The sparkle she had seen briefly had completely disappeared.
She didn't care before, but now she was curious.
"What is your story?" She questioned in her heart, just as Luciana called for her attention.
