Chapter 41: Black Lotus Sect (1)
As Baek Yisoo held Black Poison's lifeless body in his hands, he felt a strange wave of emotion, a mixture of horror and admiration. Everything had happened in a matter of seconds, but he felt as if time had stopped. He could not take his eyes off Black Venom's faded but still menacing gaze. There was a gleam of triumph in that gaze, as if even death had bowed to his will.
'Unbelievable...'
He realized his hands were shaking. The blood flowing from Black Poison's neck was trickling through his fingers. For a moment he felt sick at the sight, but he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He must not forget this moment; it was a lesson for him, a warning. It was a living proof of how deadly strength and will combined can be.
It was also a scene that emphasized the importance of training and experience.
'Now I understand how Poison Shadow felt... why he froze. Because this scene is really scary.'
Baek Yisoo took a step back in horror and etched Black Poison's smile in his mind. That smile would haunt him for the rest of his life. It would definitely haunt his nightmares.
He took a deep breath to compose himself and closed his eyes.
He threw Black Poison's body aside.
'There is an organization of assassins belonging to Blood Moon and they are after me. Baek Iseul is afraid of me and the possibility of me using the Image Stone against her. There is no way she can let me go because she is a prisoner of her fear. I have proven that a team of second and third-rate martial artists is not enough to kill me.'
Thanks to his Spring Qi, physical strength, mastery of his abilities and the Storm Ruler, he was able to kill a second-rate martial artist. But when it came to taking down an experienced assassin, he was in trouble. He was as strong as a second-rate, but not the strongest.
'I need to keep training and learn offensive skills. Third-rate martial artists should focus on gaining skill in Qi Flow. Once they are close to perfection at it, it allows them to step into the second class.'
If third-rate martial artists tried to learn offensive skills, they would be seriously harmed. That's why the Baek Clan guard trainees were taught defensive techniques such as Flow Like Water, Stream, Basic Fist, and Shield Stance.
'Second-rate martial artists can use Qi Reinforcement. So they can withstand much stronger martial arts. Not only does their physical strength increase, but their bodies also become more resilient. First-rate martial artists can use Qi Burst or Qi Infusion. That's why the first class are considered true martial artists.'
He was much stronger than them because he had physical and inner strength far above those in the third rate. But he was no match for a second year who had learned Qi Enhancement. Qi Strengthening was a Qi skill that allowed one to strengthen the body with Qi. Because it was so difficult to learn, most people could only learn it when they were first year.
But the assassin who brought Baek Yisoo to the brink of death could do it.
Baek Yisoo heaved a deep sigh and came to his senses.
'I understand why torture is something that requires training. I let them both commit suicide when there was so much more I could have learned. Once the destruction of the team is confirmed, they will pounce on me... That's a big problem. I also need to decrypt the passwords in the notebook. Since I didn't receive a mission completion notification, I can assume I got the wrong information.'
Baek Yisoo started to pack his things. The swelling on his foot and finger hurt a lot, but he had no choice but to hold on. He had taken the daggers and poisons in case they were useful to him. He also took the money pouch, the notebooks and the portrait of the woman.
There were no gaps in his inventory.
'One second...'
As he gathered all four bodies together, he noticed something. There was a black stain near Black Poison's spine. Baek Yisoo turned the man's map-like body and examined the stain on his waist. It wasn't a stain, it was a tattoo.
It was a black lotus tattoo.
The fine lines of the black lotus were delicately etched into the skin using a deep, dark ink. Each petal of the water lily seemed to spread gently over the surface of the water, but this water lily had been nourished in the depths of the night, not in the clear waters. The spaces between the petals were in perfect harmony with the rough texture of the skin surrounding it, as if it would move at any moment.
Baek Yisoo searched the other corpses in the hope of finding a symbol. Only small ink stains remained on Poison Wind's waist, while the other two bodies had the same tattoo. The Hao Clan's branch manager's whip attack had torn a large chunk of flesh from Poison Wind's waist. Therefore, the tattoo had also disintegrated due to this attack.
Baek Yisoo cut the skin around the tattoo with a dagger. Since he had done this dozens of times, he was now quite skilled. He was able to cut the skin without damaging the tattoo.
'Green Valley is also part of the Blood Moon Alliance. Maybe the Green Dragon knows something...'
Baek Yisoo gathered the bodies together and wiped away all traces. Then he put on the torn Koo Mihyun's Clothing Set and walked away. The clothes were badly damaged but still effective. Baek Yisoo wondered how to get the clothes repaired.
In the darkness of the night, Baek Yisoo limped toward the Green Dragon's territory.
---
When Baek Yisoo arrived at the same construction site, he saw the Green Dragon sitting by the fire. He was stirring the fire with a wooden stick. The orange color added by the fire seemed to accentuate the oily layer on his face. At the end of the day, Baek Yisoo, who had learned that he was a highly skilled and competent man, took care to treat him with respect.
"Again?" said the Green Dragon.
"Unfortunately."
"Why did you come?"
"I need your help... with many things."
Green Dragon looked at Baek Yisoo with a frown. Baek Yisoo showed him the notebook and black lotus tattoo he had taken out of his inventory before entering the area. Green Dragon's eyes were locked on the black lotus tattoo, so much so that he froze.
After regaining consciousness, he spoke in a serious and deep voice.
"Sit down."
Baek Yisoo managed to sit on the floor with difficulty. His finger and foot were wrapped in bandages, and it would take a long time for them to heal.
"It's an organization affiliated with the Blood Moon alliance. I thought you should know about it," Baek Yisoo said, placing a few golden nyangs in front of the Green Dragon. All knowledge had a price, and for Baek Yisoo, the price was insignificant.
"Sigh..." sighed the Green Dragon, not even looking at the coins. "I don't know what kind of trouble you got yourself into, but the people after you belong to one of the most dangerous organizations in the world."
Baek Yisoo tensed involuntarily. There was not the slightest expression on the Green Dragon's face. It was the first time he had seen him so serious. What he deduced from this was that this organization was on the same level as the Green Valley, or even bigger.
"So, who are these people?"
"Their history goes back half a millennium, to the birth of the Murim Union."
"They have that deep a history?"
Many cults and martial arts schools were formed within the Murim Union. Even their empire was half a millennium old. Except for a few of the noble sects and two of the great families, none of the great families had a history that old.
" The Black Lotus Sect is an ancient and mysterious organization founded centuries ago, deep within the world of martial arts. It began when one of the greatest martial arts masters in Murim history developed a new martial arts philosophy he called the Dark Way. This philosophy holds that the concentration of power and knowledge in the hands of the individual will give him the power to change the world. It is also the core philosophy of the Blood Moon Alliance."
