Chapter 37: Chapter 12- it's not here.
Judith's POV:
- What the hell did you say, junkie?
A cold sweat broke out on my back as I heard what she was saying. A wave of disbelief hit me as a gloomy face crossed hers. Her usual brazen face was nowhere to be seen. Her face showed a worrying seriousness.
- What you just told me is not something you can joke about lightly. Do you understand? If you're going to lie, do it with something more credible.
She lightly bit her lip as she looked down apathetic. Small tears formed on the side of her eyes as she tightly squeezed her strange dress with her hand. Still unable to believe it, I pushed the junkie aside and headed towards the hallway of doors and tried to knock on Mia's door. I reached out my hand several times towards where her doorknob would be, but it didn't appear no matter what I did. I tried again several times, but nothing materialized in front of me. I tried desperately to knock on the door, but I could only knock on the air. Finally, I fell to my knees and hit the ground hard.
- What the hell are you doing Judith?
A sweet-looking old lady came out of the front door. She looked at me strangely while I was still on the ground.
- Cathelaya?
- Do you have some business with Mia?
- Why so much noise? Are Judith and Carla fighting again…?
Before I knew it, Janeth, Hasumi and Emily had come out of their rooms. They all seemed curious about the scandal. When they questioned me for an answer I could only lower my face in apprehension. How would I explain this to them? That question rolled through my head, but I couldn't find an answer.
- … It's not there.
Was the only thing I managed to say.
- It's not there? What do you mean by….?
Cathelaya seemed to understand what I meant as her face lost all color until she was as pale as a ghost. She quickly pushed me away and tried to materialize Mia's door. But just like what happened with me, she could only brush the air with her hand.
- Why is the atmosphere so gloomy...?
- Wasn't this the usual fight?
Janeth and Hasumi don't seem to understand what's happening. Cathelaya finally giving up seems to be on the verge of tears as she extends her hand towards where the doorknob should be.
- Hihihihi. It was to be expected that this would happen sooner or later. With how stubborn she was, I'm surprised she held out this long.
Emily seems to have understood the situation as she laughs. Unlike the other witches, she seems totally calm at the news. Immediately after that sentence was said, a huge lightning bolt strikes the place where Emily should have been. Her power makes my skin crawl as an intense bloodlust chills the bones of everyone in the hallway.
- What the hell did you say, death witch?
- Hihihihi, it seems I touched on a sensitive subject for you dear, I apologize for that.
With a slight mocking bow, Emily apologizes as she laughs at Cathelaya. The intense bloodlust increases as a huge wave of wind breaks off of her throughout the hallway. As she was about to launch herself at Emily, Cathelaya and everyone present except for Emily suddenly collapse in place. I quickly cover my nose as I crouch down to avoid being affected. A long sigh leaves my door as the junkie enters the hallway.
- Thank you Young Lady, you saved me the trouble of cleaning the blood off my hands after I was done with Cathelaya.
A chilling smile was plastered on Emily's face as she slowly walked away to her own room. The junkie sighs again with regret as she looks at me.
- That's why I wanted to tell you only to avoid panic.
- … I'm sorry about all this, but I couldn't really believe your words right away. I had to make sure of it myself or I wouldn't believe it.
Being careful not to step on anyone, the junkie sits down next to me as we lean against the invisible wall.
- I guess I can't blame you... I mean, even I'm having a hard time believing that arrogant, pretentious woman could fall in battle.
Despite insulting Mia, her words were tinged with affection and melancholy. She slowly picks up her knees and hugs them lovingly as she rests her face on them. All I can do is watch her in silence as she begins to cry beside me.
- … I really can't believe Mia died.
A sudden sound of something breaking shatters the heavy atmosphere. We both look in the direction of the noise to find Nath with a broken flowerpot at his feet.
- Teacher Carla… What did you just say?
An enormous pressure flooded my body as I looked at Nath. His gaze was much more penetrating and cold than usual. A chill ran down my spine as Nath approached with unsteady steps.
- What did you just say?
An enormous pressure that didn't allow me to speak came out of Nath's small body. A look of annoyance assaulted me from the junkie as if blaming me for the whole situation. Finally she looked back at Nath.
- That Mia died.
- …
A disbelieving and intimidating look came out of her as she looked at me as if looking for confirmation. I could only nod in affirmation. Quickly that pressure vanished as Nath's face filled with tears. Her usual poker face was transformed into a grimace of pain for the first time as a river of tears fell down her cheeks.
- … Liars.
- Huh?
- Liars! My teacher Mia can't have died!
- Nath?
Before we could say anything, she ran out the door to the real world. Understanding what she was about to do, the junkie and I panicked as we chased after the heartbroken Nath who had already crossed the door of reality.
- We can't let her out.
I quickly got up to go after her while the junkie did the same with a worried face.
"We can't let her out in that state, if her power is exposed now, she will definitely be hunted by the demonic sword bearers"
With that determination I started running only to fall face first to the ground.
- Judith?
I had almost fainted because of the drug that the junkie had released earlier. Because of the whole Nath thing, I had totally forgotten that the drug was still in the air and when I realized it I ended up immobilized. Luckily I managed to keep my consciousness, but it would take a while for my legs to respond.
- Max, Terrence!
I quickly call my 2 wolves who come to me quickly from my room.
- Help the junkie catch Nath, we can't let them discover her powers yet.
"Understood, Master."
Understanding the situation, the junkie runs towards the door in the company of my 2 wolves, who quickly leave through it.
- … Damn… it…
My consciousness fades rapidly as I remain shocked by Nath. That pained expression was the first time I had seen that girl make an expression different from her usual expression.
"Damn it, I really wanted her first expression to be a smile"
That regret torments me as I pray that everything turns out well.
